Reno stretched his arms over his head. He was feeling a bit tense from being cooped up in the chopper for so long. Specially sense he wasn’t the one flying. “So why’re we goin to Congaga, yo?”
“Because, there’s an old reactor there.” Rude answered from the driver’s seat. “It hasn’t been checked in a while, so Tseng sent us to do just that.”
He scratched his head. “And they need two specially trained Turks why?”
“Because the monsters in this area are fairly vicious.” Rude quirked a smile. “You wouldn’t want me to get hurt, now would you?”
Reno started fiddling with his goggles. “Eh, guess not.”
“It’s an easy mission. Think of it as being on vacation.”
“HA. Can do.” Reno’s slid down in his chair, preparing to at least maybe sleep.
They arrived in Congaga a short while later, landing just outside of the reactor. Reno opened one eye to squint out the window
“You comeing?”
“Na.” He waved a hand at his partner. “You go ahead and have fun, yo. Just yell if you need me.”
Rude rolled his eyes, and exited the cockpit. He came back nudging his partner in the arm, to wake him up. “Here.” He tossed a small yellow materia to him. “At least hold it. See if you can figure out what it does.”
Reno rubbed his eyes, examining the small yellow orb. He held it up at eye level to try and see it in the light. “Nope. No clue what it does.”
Rude just rolled his eyes, started the engine and took off. Reno carelessly tossed the little orb in his hands. “If we don’t ever know what these things do, then why do we care?”
“Because the last one we let go turned out to be a powerful summons that Cloud and his gang got their hands on. Scarlet was so mad that she swore to not let it happen again.”
Reno laughed, catching the small orb. “I don’t think it’s so wrong to make Scarlet mad. She’s kinda cute.” He held it between his fingers to let the sun glimmer through it. The yellow tint reflected off his face. “I doubt this things an awesome summons, yo. But now I’m kinda curious as to what it does.”
“Well, once we get it to the science department, we’ll find out.”
“Eh… guess so.” Reno continued to toss the little ball back and forth between his hands, watching the way the sun glinted through it. “Huh?” Reno caught it, eyeing the orb in growing confusion.
Rude looked over at him, as much as he could with making sure to watch where he was going. “Something wrong?”
“I dunno. It’s just kinda weird. It… it suddenly started to feel warmer.”
Rude shook his head. “Because you’ve been playing with it. Plus the sun’s hitting it, Reno.”
“Yea… I guess. I just never expected it to get that hot, yo.” It sparked a bit, causing Reno to close his eyes against it. “Whoa… what was that?”
“What was what?”
Reno snapped a glance at Rude, his brow furrowing. “You didn’t see that? I thought it was gonna make you crash.”
“Reno… you feeling alright?”
The red head sneered at the tone in his partner’s voice. “Don’t start with me, yo. I know what I saw and I – YOWCH!!!” Reno dropped the materia, like it’d just bit him.”
Rude jumped. “What happened?”
Reno removed the sore fingers from his mouth, shaking them in the air. “The damn thing shocked me.”
“What?”
“It shocked me. Kinda like a spark or something.” He reached down, touching the smooth surface to check the heat before picking it up. “I don’t get it.” Reno held it up again.
Rude laughed. “Figured you’d be used to being electricuted.”
“Haha very funny.” Reno rolled his eyes, voice dripping with sarcasm.
Rude just shook his head, pulling the chopper down to land on the roof of ShinRa.
The two Turks got out, Reno still trying to see how this little thing had done it.
Rude sighed. “Just drop it. The science department can figure it out.”
“I guess.” Reno clamped the materia in his hand, following his partner inside. He stopped when the small orb started to heat up again. He lifted it up into view again, watching as it started to glow brighter. “Uh… Rude?”
Rude groaned, turning to him. “What is it now, Reno?” He stopped short, his eyes widening at the sharp light emitting from the materia. “What did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything.”
Reno shielded his eyes as the light grew brighter, enveloping his body. All he heard was his partner calling to him, and an odd jerk hit his stomach… then nothing. Not just darkness… nothing. He couldn’t feel or see anything. His ears rang from the silence. Every sense left him, just his pounding heart drawing him further into it.
