Cutest Couple

It was June 9th, also known as the second to last day of middle school in Vermillion City. Our heroes that attend this school are: Ash, Misty, May, Drew, and Dawn. Ash and Misty, who both live in the Kanto Region, usually meet on the way to school, while May and Drew travel from the Hoenn Region together. Dawn, coming from the Sinnoh Region, usually travels alone. However, she does follow a certain boy to school, however he never notices her…Partly because she hides from him, but also because he's not the friendly type…

Ash and Misty arrived at the school and went to their lockers.

"I can't believe this is it."
"Technically, this isn't it, Misty."
"Yeah, but…You know what I mean…Just today and tomorrow and then…Summer."
"Yeah, but don't get all depressed, we are going to high school and college together."
"Haha, right. I wouldn't dream of it any other way."

"Well, good!"

They laughed and before they knew it, they heard May calling to them, out of breath.

"You guys! You guys! My mom… she… said that I probably wouldn't be able to go to high school with you."
"Huh? How come? And where's Drew?"
"Because, she says it was already an obstacle to come to the Kanto Region for middle school, and I can't do that for high school. Oh, and Drew is putting my bike in the bicycle racks outside."

"Well, your mom does have a point…And since when does Drew put your bike away?"
"So, what? I want to go to high school with you! And...Hmm, I don't know."

"Because I'm a gentleman." Drew said as he flicked his hair.

"More like an arrogant jerk."

"Ooh, that hurt."

"You're the worst best friend ever!"

"That didn't make any sense."

"But it's true!"
Ash and Misty sweat dropped while watching Drew and May as they fought.

"I guess the best of friends fight like they're worst enemies." Misty said.
"And we speak from experience!" Ash added.

"Wait, where's Dawn?" May asked.
"I don't know, May." Misty replied.

"Here I am!" Dawn exclaimed.

"How come you're late? It better not be because of a boy!" May said.

"Well, sort of…I was walking to school when I noticed Paul walking in front of me…He looked in my direction multiple times so I had to hide in the bushes every time."

"Alright then…" Drew commented.

"So, what's up with everyone here?" Dawn questioned.
"The usual, May and Drew are fighting…Misty and I already fought on the way to school so I think we're good." Ash explained.
"Good for you." Dawn said.

BRIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!

"Uh-oh, time for class!" May announced.
"Let's go!" Ash exclaimed.

The day at school flew by, and before they knew it, our heroes were all in a chat room with each other.

PokemonMaster: Come on, I'm sure it won't be that bad.

Misty_Mermaid: Yeah, Ash is right.

MayPetals: Still…I wanted to go with all of you.

DrewTheGreat: If it makes you feel any better, I'm probably going to the same high school you are.

MayPetals: Really?

DrewTheGreat: Yup.

MayPetals: Don't take this personally but, I mean, then you'll be the only person I know there.

DrewTheGreat: Then, will this make you feel better? *Gives MayPetals rose*

MayPetals: Ooh, a virtual rose, my favorite.

DrewTheGreat: Haha, very funny.

Misty_Mermaid: Hey, Ash. Where's the emotion icon for blushing, both May and Drew are going to need it.

PokemonMaster: Haha, good one Misty. *Gives Misty_Mermaid high-five*

MayPetals: For your information, I'm not blushing!

DrewTheGreat: Neither am I!

Misty_Mermaid: Of course you're not.

xXPrincessPiplupXx: This is entertaining!

PokemonMaster: Anyways, how is everyone? What's up?

Misty_Mermaid: I'm good, and nothing much is going on.

DrewTheGreat: Same here.

xXPrincessPiplupXx: I'm a little depressed.

MayPetals: What's wrong?

xXPrincessPiplupXx: Paul will never notice me!

All: *Sweat drop*

MayPetals: Ok then, umm, as for me…Just a little depressed about my high school choices…Ugh, choice.

Misty_Mermaid: It won't be that bad.

MayPetals: I guess so…Oh yeah! We almost forgot!

xXPrincessPiplupXx: What?

MayPetals: Yearbook Tradition!

PokemonMaster: Oh, yeah, right.

Our heroes have a tradition that every year, they make a bet on who wins what Best of Awards in the yearbook. The losers of the bet must do something embarrassing and the "dare", if you want to call it that, varies every year.

Misty_Mermaid: Ok, how about this year…We don't bet on the little nit picky things…Like, best hair and smile…We want to get to the big thing.

PokemonMaster: What, class clown?

Misty_Mermaid: *Hits PokemonMaster with mallet* No, you idiot! I mean Cutest Couple!

PokemonMaster: Oh…Yeah…Right.

DrewTheGreat: However, we all know whose going to win boy's nicest hair. *Flicks hair*

MayPetals: Arrogant jerk.

DrewTheGreat: Talentless coordinator.

MayPetals: Take that back!

PokemonMaster: Ok, ok, break it up, you two.

MayPetals: Fine.

xXPrincessPiplupXx: So, who's going to win Cutest Couple this year?

PokemonMaster & Misty_Mermaid: May and Drew!

DrewTheGreat & MayPetals: Ash and Misty!

xXPrincessPiplupXx: Me and Paul!

All: *Sweat drop*

PokemonMaster: Every year you two say Misty and I are going to win cutest couple, and every year we never do…Cause, I don't know…Maybe it's because WE'RE NOT A COUPLE!

Misty_Mermaid: Exactly!

MayPetals: Well, it's the same thing when you say Drew and I are going to win and we never do cause we're not a couple either!

DrewTheGreat: No comment…

xXPrincessPiplupXx: But seriously, I paid the school photographer, Snap, to take a picture of me and Paul and maybe we'll win!

All: *Sweat drop*

PokemonMaster: So you paid Snap to take a picture of you and Paul so you could win Cutest Couple with Paul?

xXPrincessPiplupXx: Ugh…Well, yeah!

Misty_Mermaid: Now I have no comment.

MayPetals: Ok, so the bets are: Ash and Misty (Betters: Me and Drew), Me and Drew (Betters: Ash and Misty), and finally Paul and Dawn (Better…Dawn.)

DrewTheGreat: Yup, that's it.

xXPrincessPiplupXx: Now for the hard part…What's the loser going to have to do this year?

Misty_Mermaid: I don't know.

PokemonMaster: Anything but making me take off my pants and dancing in front of the school again!

Misty_Mermaid: Lol, good times, good times.

PokemonMaster: No, Misty, those were bad times!

DrewTheGreat: Ok, ok, we'll think of something different…

xXPrincessPiplupXx: I got it! How about this year, the loser has to kiss their crush?

All: NO!

xXPrincessPiplupXx: Ok, ok, it was just a suggestion.

MayPetals: I've got a better one.

Misty_Mermaid: What is it?

MayPetals: The loser has to write down their deepest darkest secret in all of our yearbooks.

Misty_Mermaid: Deepest darkest secret?

PokemonMaster: Are you sure it can't be an embarrassing moment? I can always write about the time I took my pants off and danced in front of the school!

MayPetals: Nope, it has to be your deepest darkest secret…Besides; we don't need to hear about that again.

DrewTheGreat: Yeah, and the rules are if there is no winner, then the bet is off.

MayPetals: And what are the chances any of our bets are going to be right?

PokemonMaster: Yeah…

Misty_Mermaid: But still…

MayPetals: Come on! It's fun!

xXPrincessPiplupXx: I like the idea! I'm in.

DrewTheGreat: I'm in…After all, I won't lose.

MayPetals: Neither will I!

PokemonMaster: Well, I guess it will be fun. I'm in.

Misty_Mermaid: I don't know…

PokemonMaster: Come on, Misty. It'll be fun!

Misty_Mermaid: Well, alright. Count me in.

The next day, our heroes arrived at Vermillion Middle School and by noon, the yearbooks were available! Ash and Misty had acquired theirs together. While, May bought one for herself and Drew. And Dawn was trying to just happen to run into Paul while getting hers. When the gang all got together, they looked through it. Ash and Misty were laughing about some of the pictures of them that got into the yearbook, Drew and May were fighting because there was a picture of them competing in a contest and May wasn't thrilled that Drew had won it. And of course, Dawn was staring at a picture of Paul. Yes, they were having, some interesting times until they turned to the Best of Awards pages. So, May began reading the outcomes…
"Ok, best smile: Ash and me. Best hair: Drew and Dawn. Most spirited: Ash and Dawn. Most athletic: Ash and Misty. Class Clown: Ash. And now…What we all have been waiting for…On 3, we turn the page to find out who this year's cutest couple is…"

They all started counting to 3…
"1…2…3!"

They all turned the page and gasped!

"It's…" May began.

"Ash and Misty!" They all screamed.

"But we…We're…We're not..! Ugh!" Misty tried saying.

"Haha, yes! Drew and I were right!" May said, giving Drew a high-five.

"Great, so the whole school thinks me and Ash are a couple." Misty said.

"Not only that, but the cutest couple! It's not fair!" Ash stated.

"I can't believe it…Ugh, Snap owes me 20 bucks!"

"You spent $20 to have Snap take a picture with you and Paul? And apparently for nothing." May said.

"Whatever, it's time for signing yearbooks…Ash, Misty, Dawn. It's time for you to complete the dare." Drew said, smirking.

"Are you sure I can't just dance in my underwear again?" Ash pleaded.

"NO!" They all scream simultaneously.

"But seriously, do we have to do this?" Misty asked.

"A bet's a bet." Drew said.

"And, we have to write it in whose yearbooks?" Ash questioned.

"In your case: Drew's, Dawn's, mine, and Misty's." May explained.

"Ugh, I don't really have any secrets…Oh yes I do!" Dawn said, excitedly.

She wrote her "secret" in all their yearbooks.

"Oh, and remember…You can only read the secrets in your own yearbook, no peaking in anyone elses." May continued explaining.

After May's finished explanation, Ash and Misty wrote in all the yearbooks they were required to write in. This was going to be so humiliating…

After all the losers signed the yearbooks, it was time for everyone to read them.

Dawn's: I used to have a crush on Kenny.

"You used to like Kenny?" May asked.

"Yup, but not anymore. I like Paul now!" Dawn said, excitedly.

As May, Drew, and Dawn were talking, Ash and Misty decided to read what had been written in theirs…There was the one from Dawn, yes, she used to have a crush on Kenny…But there in Ash's yearbook, was a long note from Misty…And he began to read it…

Dear Ash, well, this is awkward. Haha, worst bet ever. Remind me after why I decided to take it. Well, I better get this over with…Then again, since this is being written down, it's going to haunt me forever. Ok then, the bet. My deepest darkest secret…Well, that one would have to be…I love you. There, I said, ok, wrote it down. I love you, Ash Ketchum, I always have, I always will. And, to get it through your dense head, I'm going to spell it out for you, it's not love as in friendship, however, I do treasure your friendship, it's more than that…I always have had a crush on you, since the day I met you. I just, hope you feel the same way...And if not, I want to still be friends and for it to not be awkward between us.

Misty, not wanting to see how Ash reacted from fear, engrossed herself in what was written in hers…And, there was a long note from Ash…About the same size as she had written in his yearbook.

Dear Mist, this is going to be so embarrassing. But here goes nothing…Or everything. Let me know which one later. The award for my deepest darkest secret goes to…I've always…Well, had a crush on you. I don't know I just, I love everything about you, that you can be mothering and caring, loud and violent, a friend and still…Something more to me. I don't know how you feel about me though, which makes this hard for me to write, if you don't feel the same way…I understand, but just let me know…Oh, and if you don't feel the same way, do us both a favor…Burn this message! Haha, just kidding…Or am I?

May and Drew had already read the messages in theirs, only, the messages they got from Ash was "I have a crush on Misty" and the one they got from Misty was "I have a crush on Ash".

"You know, Drew, I wonder what you would have written in my yearbook if you lost the bet."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, if we lost the bet, what would you have written in my yearbook?"
"Well, I didn't lose, so I don't have to tell you."
"Oh, yes you do!"

"Nope."
"Come on, pretty please? I know, just write it down now, I'll do the same in your yearbook."

"…Hmm, fine."

So, May and Drew switched yearbooks and when they gave them back to one another, they read them.

May's message to Drew said:

Umm, how to say this…How about I just make it short, sweet and to the point…I love you!

Drew's message to May:

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

All of those flowers for your Beautifly,

Were all really for you!

And if you're still not getting the picture,

I'll spell it out for you better,

I love you, May,

I always have and I always will until the very last breath I take. (Actually, longer than that, but hey, it had to rhyme)

After reading their messages from each other, they blushed and hugged each other…And Drew pulled out a rose and handed it to May…The very first rose May received that she knew it was meant for her.

Meanwhile, Ash and Misty were still reading the messages they received from each other, over and over and over again. Finally, they looked up, blushed and grinned.

"Did you mean it?"

"No, Ash, I made all of that up for entertainment, of course I meant it!"

"Ok, ok, just making sure."

"So…Does this mean we're a couple?"
"Yes..?"
"Good answer."

They shared their very first kiss, and at that moment, Snap took a picture of it.

"Hey, you owe me $20!" Dawn screamed and started chasing after him.

"Well, I guess now…we really are the cutest couple." Ash said.

"Yes, we are." Misty agreed.

Many years had passed since that day. I guess you could say all's well that ends well. Misty married Ash and they have two children. They live in Pallet Town, Ash with the title of Pokémon Master while Misty is Water Pokémon Master. Misty occasionally runs the Cerulean City Gym when her sisters go on vacation; however, her sisters had finally taken responsibility so they rarely travel. May and Drew were married and May is currently pregnant. As for Dawn, she still hasn't gotten the $20 that Snap owed her, but she does have a date with Paul. And, this particular day, Misty was cleaning up the house a bit, Ash had taken their children out for a swim, normally Misty would join too but, the house wasn't exactly spotless. So, she was clearing off bookshelves when a familiar book fell to the ground. She opened it up and started laughing, recalling good and bad times during her middle school year at Vermillion City Middle School. Then, she flipped to the Best of Awards. She sighed at the stupidity of herself and her friends for having that stupid bet tradition. She turned to the page that revealed many pictures of her and Ash, and a gigantic one of her and Ash, looking very romantic, especially since it was framed in a huge heart. She looked through the rest of the book until she finally got to the last page, but there was something there she didn't expect. There it was, the picture of Ash and Misty's very first kiss. She picked it up and smiled, and then she read the message from Ash that he had written to her so many years ago. It was then she realized, Ash and her truly are the cutest couple.
