An old van runs down the wet highway, through a night filled with stinging rain and whipping winds, toward a destination. That old van is mine and I'm driving to a destination alright. I'm going home. Finally, after a long day of college finals and dealing with idiots in general, I am going home. Trying to stay cautious while I operated the vehicle because of the storm outside, I search for a radio station to help me pass the time. Turning the knob, all I hear is static coming from the speakers. 'Weird,' I thought. I wasn't driving in the middle of nowhere or even going there. I was on a highway in-between two major cities; I should be getting a radio signal from somewhere. Putting that problem aside, I grabbed a CD resting in the seat next to me, by my messenger bag and art toolbox, and shoved it gently into the CD drive. The music came on through the speakers mounted in the doors and immediately had me singing along to its musings the rest of the way home.

Or, rather, that's how it should have happened.

I exited the highway soon enough and pulled up to the currently red traffic light at the intersection, waiting for the signal to turn onto my desired route. I was getting bored with the CD, so I decided to turn it off. I was close to home now and could stand the silence for less than 2 minutes. When the speakers silenced, I realized how bad the storm really had gotten during my half-concentrated state that I was in while driving on the highway. The wind, compared to when I had last heard it, was howling like a captured beast. It shoved at anything in its path; this included me. The rain seemed to be used as a chisel by the wind to shape the environment as it saw fit; again, this included me. As I looked out into the night's harsh storm, I realized that I was the only car that I could see on the road. I knew that it was late but I had thought that there'd be more than just myself on the road at this hour. The light flashed green at me as it swung in the violent storm raging. I turned into the wind, down the road that would lead me closer to the place that I called my home. I was cautious as I drove through the storm, even more so than I was before. I came to another intersection with a red traffic light, signaling me to stop. I did as I was commanded by the light's color and turned on my right turn signal. The road that I was turning onto was the last major road that I would travel on this evening before going home. I tried to calm myself and relax in that simple fact as I waited for the red light to change to green in the swell around me. I noticed, as I waited, that the rain had ceased, at least for the time being.

'Well that's good,' I thought, 'now instead of a hurricane, it's a tornado.'

The light changed once again to a vibrant green, giving me the signal to go on my way. I turned right slowly and started on my final major road home. I started to think on my comfortable bed and the blankets and pillows on top of it awaiting my caress. Amidst my delightful thoughts, a white light exploded in front of me. I shook myself from the daydream of pillows and fluff to look at the light. At first it looked like a lighting bolt, but soon I realized that initial thought to be false. Lighting bolts only last for a couple of milliseconds. This light, however, was still there 5 seconds later; just long enough for me to get a good look at it. My eyes widened at my first guess at what it was and where it came from.

At first glance, most people wouldn't suspect me of being an avid otaku (anime fan). An over-active imagination, sure, but, looking closer, one will see many key-chains, pins, buttons, and drawings on and in my possessions that testify to my claim to my otaku-ness. I've watched plenty of animes and have read my share of manga and then some. Therefore, I seem to be able to recognize anything that may pertain to any of these stories that I was and am intrigued by.

This lighting bolt like tower of light reminded me of one show only. The only show that focused on images like the one in front of me at that moment; Generator Gawl. Quickly getting over my initial disbelief, I looked at where the light had seemed to land. I followed the direction that I had seen it appear as the light disappeared. I raced down the road looking for anything that was out of the ordinary. This was quite hard, since it was quite late at night and the only lights that were on were my own headlights from the van. Soon I noticed a fog coming thick and fast across the road in front of me. Realizing quickly that this was not fog, but smoke (there was none out before), I looked to the left side of my van toward the source. I slow the van to a crawl as I struggle to look through the thick smoke. Quite suddenly, I heard an assortment of nosies that wouldn't be by any means comforting to any one person in any situation. A yell, loud banging, and an unearthly cry, followed by more banging and bashing. I pulled my van over to the side of the road, preparing myself to get out and see for myself the events taking place in my ears. As soon as the van is in park, a figure jumped out of the woods about 800 feet away from the road and landed in front of my van. Its impact is heavy on the ground, causing my van to bounce.

The figure, now in plain sight because of the headlights, was about six or seven feet tall and was fiercely focused on the woods across the road. I looked at the creature in disbelief and wonderment. My outlandish and unrealistic first guess had proven to be true. I was sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it was him.

"Gawl."

Before I could fully register my thoughts, another figure jumped from the woods toward the first. Crashing into each other, the second figure tried to pierce the first with some kind of sharpened object from its body. The first, having a hold onto the second's limb attempting to harm it, crushed the limb in a splatter of bones and blood. The second figure, seemingly another generator, for they had moved halfway out of the headlights, cried in agony with that unearthly cry that I had heard earlier. As the second creature screamed into the night, the first freed its other hand and plunged it into the second's chest, extracting a shining and bleeding core. Easily crushing it, the second creature faded into ashes and scattered into the wind as the first stood at its victory. Soon though, the first figure collapsed and started to glow a soft blue, changing abruptly in size and shape to that of a human form.

Though still in shock from the real life generator battle that had just taken place in front of me, I knew well enough that the first creature needed help. I unlocked my door, opened it quickly, jumped out and raced toward the figure. With my headlights still on, I could easily see the boy that lay on the ground a few feet in front of me. The markings on his body, that hair, that face, everything was dead on. It was him, Gawl from the anime Generator Gawl, there should be no doubt about that. The most important question that had been running through my mind this whole time had yet to be answered.

"What is an anime character doing in this world?"

As I made my way toward him, I became hesitant to actually touch him.

'What if he was just apart of my imagination? What if this is all a dream? If I touch him, the dream might end. If I do touch him, I will know for sure whether I'm just imagining things again.'

Determined to help him recover above all opposition within myself, I concluded that I'd help him no matter what. I heeled next to him, and brought my hand out to shake his shoulder to wake him. Inches away from his skin I hear a familiar voice shout out to the boy under my fingertips. I look toward the woods and see two figures running toward me as fast as they could. My eyes, if possible, widened even more at the realization of who these figures exactly were.
