Chapter 10

Kurogane soon discovered that, like in any normal public high school, the students at Hitsuzen could be separated into six different groups; there were the jocks, the popular kids, the athletes, the nerds, the losers, and the loners. Then there were the New Students, who couldn’t be separated into a group and were studied closely to see where they should be placed. Basically, a lot of people asked a lot of questions and didn’t stop until you had a label.

Unfortunately, he was a New Student.

“Youou, where’d you go to school?”

“Where do you live?”

“Is it true Ashura has more money than God?”

“What happened to your parents?”

“When did you get here?”

“Why does Fye like you so much?”

The junior took several deep breaths as he fought through the crowd to the locker room, trying to avoid hitting someone. He was actually quite proud of himself; normally, he would have slugged someone by that point, but after three classes of having to endure the idiot blonde, he’d started to repress all emotion to avoid snapping.

“Is it true you and Fluorite used to be an item?”

Kurogane’s hand snapped up before he had fully registered the question, grasping the asker by the throat and pinning him to the nearest set of lockers. The speaker, a tall, thin man with short, wavy black hair, smirked down at him.

“Watch it, you stupid ass bastard,” the junior spat, pushing him closer to the wall to avoid the students trying to push past him in an attempt to flee the scene. “I don’t know where the fuck you dumbasses keep hearing this stupid hit from, but I can guarantee at least ninety-three percent of it’s bullshit. Now leave me the fuck alone.”

The man scoffed. “Is that anyway to talk to a teacher?” he drawled, superiority obvious in his voice. “Or did you think I was a student?”

Kurogane scowled, releasing him.

“I didn’t realize teachers were supposed to interfere in their students’ lives,” he growled. There was a light chuckle from behind him, and the dark haired teen’s scowl deepened.

“Leave me alone, idiot,” he snapped at Faye without bothering to look at him. The blonde laughed.

“But Kuro-sama, I didn’t say anything,” his false cheerful voice whined. The junior growled, glancing back at him.

“Dammit, Flu-” he stopped, blinking in surprise as he leaned closer. “Fluorite, are you crying?”

The blonde grinned, eyes sliding shut to hide the dampness gathering there. “Of course not, Kuro-mii,” he laughed. “You must be seeing things.”

Kurogane scowled, yanking the blonde’s chin up so that his eyes flew open in surprise. Before the musician could react more than that, the new student wiped the thumb of his free hand under his eye, scowl deepening when it came away wet.

“What the Hell are you crying about?” he demanded, releasing him. The pianist trembled slightly, the movement barely noticeable by the other teen. He turned his head towards the ground so that his bangs fell in front of his face.

“I hit –” he began, but Kurogane stopped him, pulling his chin up again so he could see his face.

“Sorry, couldn’t catch that,” he snapped. “I’m sure the floor would love to hear your lies, though.”

The blonde grinned at him. “I hit my head on the locker room door,” he lied, a sickeningly cheerful note to his voice. “Why? Did I worry you?”

The younger teen tensed, dropping him as his face flushed. “Why the fu-”

“Fye! Are you alright?”

Kurogane glanced up at the sound of his brother’s voice, scowl deepening. The senior slipped towards them through the crowd, stopping at the blonde’s side and grasping his hand. The smaller boy smiled at him.

“Of course I am, Ashura,” he said softly, craning his neck and kissing the senior’s cheek. “Kuro-dee doesn’t believe I hit my head on the door when everyone started running after he attacked Sakurazuka-sensei.”

Kurogane stared at them, frozen. He kissed him. Granted, it might not have meant anything, but there was something about it that sent all the anger he’d been feeling towards the musician directly in his brother’s direction. He’d barely heard what they’d been talking about. Some bullshit about the pianist hitting his head, and something about a guy named Sakurazuka-Wait, isn’t that my PE teacher?

“Kurogane, the bell’s about to ring,” Ashura’s voice snapped him out of his shock, and he glared at him.

“Right,” he snapped, turning and marching towards the teacher’s office. He didn’t bother glancing back, so he didn’t see the shocked expression on Fye’s face, or the resigned sorrow on his brother’s.

Taking a deep breath, he glared at the man sitting at a desk behind the counter, a short, roundish, girly-looking guy with black hair and wide eyes. The teacher smiled at him.

“You must be Kurogane-kun,” he greeted, climbing to his feet and handing him a key. “You have locker 4-56, by Fye-san. This is the key, though it should be unlocked. I heard from Yuuko-san that he’s your escort around campus, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding it. Just drop your bag off and head to Sakurazuka-san’s class. I believe your brother has it.”

The junior nodded as he accepted the key, not trusting himself to speak without snapping at him. Great, he thought sarcastically, winding his way through the crowd and searching for the top of Fye’s head. I’ve got the idiot in the locker rooms and my brother during class.

He took a deep breath, slipping in between two students as they pulled on their uniforms. Fye glanced at him as he approached, shirt only halfway on. He grinned as the teen stopped beside him, yanking the locker open and tossing his bag in it. Not bothering to look at the blonde, he slammed the door shut and locked it, shoving the key in his pocket. He’d have to get something so he could carry it after he got his uniform.

“See you in a few minutes, Kuro-rinta,” the blonde called as he turned to leave, freezing him in his tracks.

“What?” he snapped, glaring over his shoulder at the pianist, who smiled.

“Subaru-san and Sakurazuka-sensei’s classes always have their classes play together during basketball and soccer,” he explained. “And we just started our basketball unit, so we might be on the same team!”

The junior sighed, walking out of the building as quickly as he could. All he could do was try not to kill someone before the class was over.

But maybe just one wouldn't hurt?

A/N; Blech. I hate this chapter. Ah, well. Onto the next one!
