Misty shifted, and surveyed the room from her position on the bleachers. She was bored. Her dress was uncomfortable and her hair had been manipulated into a mass of loops and curls. The date was October 31st, and her sisters had transformed the gym into a dance floor. It was overcrowded, and she was having trouble finding familiar faces.

Misty rolled her eyes, and rested her head on her forearms. Halloween parties were so boring.

She had only gone along with her sister’s plans because…

A sudden flash of yellow caught her eye. She stood and leaned over the railing to get a better look.

She barely registered the small rodent on his shoulder. A warm smile stretched across her face as she took him in. His costume was perfect.
