Plot: Set during 'Chained'
Gibbs and Kate are waiting in the car at the gas station for Abby to call back.
"Let's break the pattern," Kate smiles across at Gibbs.
"What pattern?" Gibbs frowns.
"Dishonest, silence pattern," Kate told Gibbs with a small smile.
"I'm worried for Tony," Kate mutters quietly. "There. I said it," Kate sighed, looking over at Gibbs, who turns his head to stare at Kate. "I dropped my guard for two seconds, I got it out, now I'm happy," Kate explained.
"That made you happy?" Gibbs questioned
"Yes," Kate said, smiling broadly at him. "Don't you want to be happy Gibbs?" Kate continues.
"I am happy," he stated.
"You don't look happy," Kate replied.
"That's because I want what I can't have," he groaned, staring out the window.
"Ok," Kate nodded and turned to her head to look out the window. "Hang on, what do you want that you can't have?" Kate asked, looking back over at Gibbs.
"You," he whispers, turning back towards her.
"Me?" she repeated softly. "Why can't you have me?" Kate frowned, watching Gibbs carefully. Gibbs smiled and stared down at the floor.
"Rule 12," he uttered quietly.
"Stuff the rules!" Kate cried, causing Gibbs to suddenly look up at her.
"What are you saying?" Gibbs frowned.
"I like you. I want to give us a chance at a relationship," Kate smiled.
"But the rules…" Gibbs paused.
"I know you live by your rules, I'll quit my job if it's the only way we can be together," Kate said, looking down to see Gibbs holding onto her hands.
"Don't!" he shouted.
"Don't what? Want to be in a relationship with me, or quit my job?" Kate frowned at his ridiculous comment.
"Quit your job. I couldn't bare not seeing you every day!" Gibbs said, giving Kate's hand a light squeeze. "See we have a problem," Gibbs shrugged.
"No we don't!" Kate said, turning in her seat.
"Huh?" Gibbs inquired.
"If it's true love then the only things that matter is being together," Kate smiled, explaining her logic.
"You love me?" Gibbs asked quietly.
"I said I liked you, didn't I?" Kate said, raising an eyebrow.
"Tony will throw a fit!" Gibbs yelled, moving his hands onto his lap.
"Who cares what Tony does! You are Leroy Jethro Gibbs! You can handle Tony," Kate smiled.
"You're one in a million Kate!" Gibbs beamed.
"What are you doing next Friday?" Kate asked.
"Ah, haven't thought that far ahead. Why do you ask?" Gibbs said, staring at her hazel eyes.
"You are taking me out to dinner," she smiled.
"Oh really!" Gibbs chuckled.
"Yes you are!" Kate nodded. Gibbs smiled and leaned closer to Kate. Within seconds Gibbs kissed Kate's lips. When they had finished making out Kate leaned back in the seat smiling.
"What are you smiling for?" Gibbs queried, sitting back in his own chair.
"I could get used to this," she whispered.
"What? Me taking you out to dinner or the kissing part?" Gibbs frowned.
"The kissing part!" Kate grinned, watching Gibbs pull his phone out and answered it.
