Chapter Four: Some Wild Things

Cameron came by shortly after I got back where I was lounging on the couch, reading the book with the TV on low.

"Hey, you're still here," She grinned brightly; clearly afraid I was going to make off with her clothes and book while she was gone.

"Yup. I like this book," I said. "Mind if I borrow it to finish it?"

"Sure," She nodded. "I'm almost ready to go. Would you like to go to dinner?"

"Oh..." I paused, biting my lip. It wasn't that I didn't want to, I just didn't want owe her so much either.

"I just thought maybe you'd like a nice evening out after your ordeal today," she said kindly. "Oh, and I invited my boyfriend if it's okay with you. He's really nice; I think you'll get along with him well."

Oh my god. I was going to meet the other doctor I had a crush on too. Chase was so handsome and dreamy looking and I just knew I'd make a fool of myself. I didn't fancy him the way I did Wilson but I wouldn't mind some one-on-one with him! I shook my head to clear my thoughts. He was Cameron's, as much as that annoyed me on the show, and I wasn't going to ruin things for myself by doing anything inappropriate with Chase.

"Okay, what's his name?" I asked, curious what she called him.

"Rob Chase," she said. "I used to work with him." I nodded. It was interesting that she called him Rob. I wondered what Chase called her.

"He's meeting us at Green Street Grill and Bar," she said. "I'm assuming yes, you are over 21?"

"I'm almost 24, actually," I said. "In a couple months."

"Your birthday is in June, then?"

"Er, May, actually. I didn't realize the date."

"It's April 14th," Cameron said helpfully. "I know I get a little scattered when a lot happens to me at once." I started feeling a little panicky. I didn't know how long I'd be here but I didn't want to celebrate birthday number twenty-four in a strange place with strangers.

"So what about you," I asked. "When is your birthday?"

"February 11th," she said. Interesting. "When's yours?"

"May 13th," I said quickly. "So what sort of food do they have at Green Street?"

"Burgers and stuff. I didn't think you'd want a fancy dinner after your day. But we can go somewhere else if you want something nicer," she said reassuringly. I almost rolled my eyes. Cameron was just so darn nice to people.

"No, a burger sounds great," I nodded. "So, which way are we going?" I looked around and she smiled.

"My car is in the parking garage," she said. "First floor." I instantly pegged that she was in hiding from House. He wouldn't be looking for her car in the parking garage, he'd be expecting one of his team to park in the open. But by using the parking garage, she could come and go to the specific floor she needed to be at without encountering House. Then again, maybe I was overanalyzing things. After all, she did walk through the front door right in front of House in The Right Stuff. I stopped trying to decipher things when my head began to ache at the confusing maze of my own thoughts.

During the drive we chatted about ourselves and I got to learn about a side of Cameron that didn't appear often in the course of the show. She liked cooking, reading and gardening, wanted kids but wasn't sure she wanted them yet and loved dogs.

"I didn't know you liked dogs," I murmured absentmindedly.

"Yeah," she looked a little confused. "I had a German Shepherd growing up." I smirked, that totally fitted in with her crush on House.

"Tell me about your family," I asked as she found us a place to park.

"Not much to tell," she said hesitantly. "My dad and mom live in Boca Raton, they're both retired."

"Where did you grow up?"

"Just outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin," she said.

"Did you always know you wanted to be a doctor?" I asked eagerly. I was getting so much more information out of her than I expected!

"Well, sort of...I went to this lecture senior year of high school that sort of changed my life," she said. "But before that, I knew I wanted to study science and math." I nodded along, letting her talk. She told me a little about her life before House, including her Mayo Clinic internship and briefly about House but without mentioning his name or much about her life working for him.

We sat down at a dark wood table in the darkly lit restaurant and waited for Chase to show up while Cameron told me about her new job as head of the ER. It was so weird and cool getting to talk to her and being able to get to know her.

Finally, after we ordered drinks, Chase appeared. My heart thumped loudly in my chest and I blushed, certain everyone else around me could hear it.

"Hi there," he said, Australian accent thick enough to make me nearly swoon. "I'm Rob," he reached out for my hand and I grasped it gently, almost gasping when a surge of electricity hit my hand.

"Ah...Abby," I said, trying to concentrate without making a fool of myself.

"Nice to meet you," I said.

"Allie told me a little about you. I'm sorry about your jerk of a boyfriend," he said sincerely.

I nodded along, unable to form a coherent thought. Chase was making me feel weak in the knees just by looking at me. When he looked away at Cameron, I took the opportunity to take a few hurried gulps of air to clear my head.

"Are you alright?" Cameron asked, looking at me strangely. I squeezed my eyes shut briefly and then opened them again before nodding.

"Yeah, I think I'm just hungry," I lied. Chase looked at me strangely as well, and patted my shoulder. I almost pulled away. Another surge of electricity and I was going to be burned!

"Let's order then," he said with a smile at me. I glanced down at the table and smiled to myself. Cameron looked at me suspiciously which I could see out of the corner of my eye.

"I was just thinking that you're a sweet girl for putting Abby up at your place," Chase said, turning to Cameron. "She's really lucky to have made a friend in you."

"Thanks," Cameron smirked and picked up her drink.

The evening moved quickly and we decided to go from the restaurant to a club called Tango.

The whole place was dark and smoky and really small. On one side was a bar and the other held a tiny stage on which a band jammed. There was a DJ in the other corner, providing a spinning beat behind the band.

Multicolored lights pulsed to the beat and a hundred people danced to the music, bodies swaying and spinning in the tiny club.

Chase led us over to the bar and bought us a round of margaritas and a beer for himself. As he pressed the cool bottle to his mouth and took a swig, my eyes traveled to his perfect lips and I couldn't stop watching them. Cameron nursed her pineapple margarita and started a friendly chat with the bartender.

I couldn't help it, I realized I was behaving like the worlds biggest slut but I was such a hopeless mess in front of a hot guy. It was like my brain turned into mush around them. I leaned forward and touched Chase's arm lightly.

"Hey," I said, smiling. "So you never told me where you're from."

"Australia," he said simply. His stormy blue eyes penetrated mine as he leaned forward and I held my breath, wondering what he was going to do. "Did you know I once wrestled a shark?" he asked breathlessly. I knew it was a lie, I'd seen this before but I held my breath and all I could do was shake my head slowly.

"I was seventeen, it was my first summer as a lifeguard on the beach," he began.

"Is he telling you the time he wrestled a shark story?" Cameron asked with a giggle, turning towards us. "It's a real hoot."

"Shh," Chase said. "She hasn't heard this story yet."

"Well, I'm off to dance. Have fun with his tall tales," Cameron chuckled as she slid off the stool with her drink in hand.

"So what happened?" I asked. Chase frowned and glanced at the empty drink in my hands.

"Hang on," he said. "Bartender," the bartender came over and Chase asked for another beer. "And a Sex on the Beach, for the lady," Chase winked at me and I almost fell off the bar stool.

"So anyway," he said in a husky voice. "I was seventeen and working my first summer as a lifeguard. It was a hot day, so hot that I was sweating as I sat in the lifeguard stand. I had to take my shirt off so I was only had on my swim trunks and sunglasses." I felt giddy and hot all over as I leaned closer to hear his story. His eyes were dark and he took another swig of beer and my eyes hungrily took in the sight of the well muscled arm that held the bottle.

“The waves were wicked that day, the perfect day for a surfer and I had to really focus to make sure everyone in the water was safe. That’s when I heard it, someone shouted ‘shark’!” Chase continued.

I sipped my Sex on the Beach and let my eyes travel up and down Chase's body as he continued to tell his story of the heroic attempts at saving the beach-goers by wrestling a great-white shark.

"So I jumped out of the way just in time. My arm was bleeding everywhere and I was so afraid he would go after me but I knew I had one shot and I couldn't waste time worrying about a little thing like death. I drew back and punched him in the nose!" I gave a proper little gasp of shock and giggled like an idiot. Alcohol tended to make me giddy, I couldn't help it.

"I was exhausted and still bleeding but I yanked the wanker's head back and punched him again, good and proper. The beach was safe from the terrors of that great white ever since! The shark got a job at a local aquarium and I was given a medal of honor from the Prime Minister himself."

I had never heard Chase's shark story like this before. I realized it was fake but I couldn't help being drawn in.

"Oh Rob, you're so brave," I said sweetly. I drained the last of my drink and gestured to the bartender for another. "I'd love to see your medal sometime."

"Sure," he said, flashing me a one-thousand megawatt grin. "Anytime."

"I'd better go see how Allison is doing," I mumbled, feeling hot all over suddenly. I needed to get away from Chase before I did something foolish.

"I'll be waiting when you get back," Chase said, winking at me.

"Hey," Allison was on the dance floor, grooving to the band's tunes. They were playing some kind of hip-hop version of eighties jams with a side of latin beat. It was so very nouveau and trendy.

"Having fun?" Allison asked. I wasn’t the most coordinated dancer so I was proud of myself for being able to shimmy and nod at the same time without falling over.

"Yeah, and you're right, Rob's shark story was a laugh," I said pleasantly. "He's a cutie. Better hold onto him or some nurse in hot pink scrubs might sashay by and snag him for herself," I grinned.

"Nah," she shook her head. "He's like, infatuated with me."

"Oh?" She sounded a little...uppity when she said that. It didn't seem like Cameron.

"Yeah, he's so in love with me. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like him a lot but he's not..."

"He's not what?" I asked, curious.

"Nothing," Cameron shook her head quickly. I could tell she was going to say something else.

We continued dancing and drinking throughout the night. Eventually I realized I was extremely drunk and Chase was well on his way to being so. Just before we wanted to leave though, Cameron's pager went off.

"Oh shoot," she said. She hadn't had nearly as much as either of us had.

"I can take Abby to your place," Chase said. "She's a little drunk so I think it's best if I go."

"Sure," Cameron nodded. "I'll give you my key," she fumbled in her purse while Chase held me upright. I was busy trying to see down his shirt to see if he was as ripped as I suspected.

"Okay here it is," I swung backwards as she popped up, feeling guilty for behaving so drunk.

"Poor thing," Chase clucked. "She's been through a lot today. I guess it's okay that she's drunk. I don't think anyone would have been sober at the end of this kind of day."

"Yeah, just take her back to my place," Cameron said. "She could use at least one good night's sleep."

"Sure thing," Chase said. "Now you get back to that hospital before you get in trouble."

"I'll see you tomorrow," Cameron gave him a peck on the cheek while I watched. Gee, way to give him lukewarm affection, I thought.

"So," Chase turned to me. "Ready to take a ride in my car?" he smirked and I nodded, feeling a little sloshy inside. His hands lingered around my waist as he helped me into his sports car and my nerves tingled.

The drive was surprisingly short, only about ten minutes and I managed to keep the contents of my stomach in check as we drove through the dark streets of Princeton.

"Here's Allison's complex," Chase said, unlocking his side and swooping around to open my door. I wasn't so drunk I couldn't walk on my own but it was thoughtful of Chase to put a steadying hand around my waist as he guided me to her apartment. He fumbled with the keys and finally got it unlocked and pushed the door open.

"Do you need me to come in or are you okay now?" Chase asked hesitantly. I stared at him, his dark blue eyes were glittering in the moonlight, his perfect lips looked so kissable and his hair hung over one eye, just waiting to be brushed away. I forgot to breathe for a moment.

Without thinking, I lunged at him and pressed my mouth to his, unable to resist a second longer. I was dying to taste the incredibly soft lips he kept taunting me with. I ran my fingers down his chest, feeling the hardness of his taut muscles under my hands. It was so perfect, so wonderful and he wasn't stopping me either.

I was too drunk to care at this point, unable to pull away or think about what I was doing, just enjoying the feel of him underneath me. The surreal notion that I was kissing Robert Chase didn't escape me either, it merely heightened my pleasure.

After a few uncertain seconds, Chase responded by opening his mouth to me and pressing his tongue against mine. He pushed me inside the door, fumbling with my clothes and I grabbed at his shirt, eager to see what lay beneath. All rational thought escaped me the minute he ran his hands down to my waist and picked me up. His strong arms held me tight as he carried me off straight to Heaven.

A/N: Abby, oh Abby. What a troublemaker you are. Can she dig her way out of this mess? What will happen between her and Chase? Or more importantly, her and Cameron? She's really done it this time.

Thanks to all my reviewers. I love getting reviews, I'm a total review-slut. I write for myself but I love reviews like a fat kid loves cake. Like I love cake. Me and cake, we have an unnatural relationship...woops, I digress. So anyway, enjoy and let me know if you like it!
