Sorry for being so late. Since school started, I've been 's MegaShadow bringing you the second chapter of "The Story of Kelvin Stelar"!
Chapter 2: The Creation of a Hero
Kelvin opened his brand new Transer II to be greeted by an alien with a form similar to Mega's. The differences are his smoother voice and color scheme, consisting of a dark purple energy body, red body armor, and green eyes. He was obviously younger as his spikes were rounded and his body smaller. Zeta-Xis was checking out his new home when the door opened and he saw his new partner. He gave a friendly hello, which caused the human to fall over on the floor, sending Zeta's home sailing only to land on top of said boy's chest.
"What... happened?" questioned a confused Kelvin. He lying was on the living room couch, his mom sitting quietly nearby, watching television.
"Oh, you fainted when you saw an E.T. in your new Transer," she answered calmly. "Are you feeling better?"
"I'm feeling alright. The back of my heads hurts a little, but besides that I'm fine."
"That's good. Your dad said that when you were feeling better, he wanted to talk to you. He's waiting in your room."
Kelvin got up and walked upstairs to his bedroom. Inside was his dad, Omega-Xis, and the strange red alien he saw earlier. "Hey, kiddo," his dad said before giving his son a hug. "Your reaction was worse than mine. You actually fainted!" This drew a laugh from Omega-Xis as well as himself.
Kelvin chuckled a bit, too. "So, Mega, who is this guy?" Kelvin asked, pointing his finger at the red alien.
"Oh, that's right. We haven't introduced you two, have we? Kelvin, this here is my son Zeta-Xis," Mega said, putting his arm around the newcomer. "You can call him Zeta for short."
"Hey kid," Zeta shook Kelvin's hand. "Nice to meetcha."
"He's your...son?" Kelvin asked Mega. "You EM guys actually have people like that?"
"Well, yeah! What, did you think we sprout from magic beans or something?" Omega-Xis laughed at his own joke. "Yes, we have families."
"So, who's the lucky lady?" the boy asked innocently.
"Um......that's not important." Omega-Xis blushed bright red.
Kelvin snickered to himself. "So dad, mom said you wanted to talk with me about something?"
"Yes. I know that this may be a bit sudden, but I want you to take over as the hero now," Geo said flatly.
"What?!"
"Well, your mother and I have been wanting to spend more time together. And, if I'm always out saving people, I can't do that very well can I? So, Omega-Xis and I have decided that our children should carry on our legacy."
"Wow, dad. I think I'll need a bit of time to think this over."
"That's okay. Take as long as you need. In case you're wondering, Zeta already said he'd be fine working with you. Oh, and by the way, I meant to give this back to you," Geo gave Kelvin his Transer back. The boy put it on. "Now then, you and Zeta-Xis get to know each other a little bit, alright?" He patted his son on the shoulder and left with Mega, leaving the two boys alone.
"So," Kelvin started, "what's it like being an AM-ian born on Earth?"
"It's...different," the alien stated. Both children sat on the wide blue bench set against the wall. "I guess you could say I'm a fish out of water. But, it's exciting at the same time. I"m possibly the first extraterrestrial ever born on this planet. What's it like to be a human child?"
"It almost feels a bit unnatural, being alive in this society. My granddad talks of when he was a kid, there were still real forests around. He'd play with the neighborhood kids and grandma."
"Ya know, it's unfortunate that I don't have anything to bribe you with." Zeta-Xis laid his head back on his arms and closed his eyes.
"What do you mean?" the human boy asked, tilting his head to see the smirk on Zeta's face.
"Well, when our dads first met, yours didn't want anything to do with the whole Andromeda thing. But when pa mentioned that he knew Kelvin, Geo was immediately interested. I don't have any info on any missing family members...yet." Zeta smiled.
"You seem to be anxious about this 'taking over the family business' thing."
"I wouldn't call it the family "business", per se. I'd put it at more of a family duty. There aren't many people who are capable of what we are."
Outside, a shifty figure was sitting on the wave road, listening to the whole conversation. "You see, Zeta-Xis, that's where your wrong," were his only words before the shady being teleported away.
"Well, I've made up my mind." Kelvin stood up.
"What do you mean?" The alien opened his eyes and stared at the human.
"I don't think I'm ready for this just yet."
"Hey, kid, don't get so hasty. Maybe you should think it over a little more."
"Nope. I think I've thought about it enough." Kelvin walked down the stairs. "Hey dad, can you come here for a minute?" Geo came over to where his son was.
"What is it, sport?'
"I've decided." He paused. "I don't think I'm ready for such a big responsibility yet."
"Okay, if that's what you want."
"Yeah it is, dad."
"Dinner's ready! Come and get it!" Sonia called from the kitchen.
"Let's eat! I think she made her homemade pizza!"
"Oh, boy!"
After dinner, Kelvin went to do what homework he had while his parents sat down to watch Ocean's 113. "Okay, so I put this here... and this here... and, 1, 2, 3, 3.5 square centimeters." Kelvin laid back and let out a long sigh. "There, finally done. Woohoo!"
Zeta emerged from the device laying on the bed, next to his host's head. He rubbed his eyes. "You had to do that, didn't you? Man and I was having the best dream."
"Oh, my apologies, sire." Kelvin chuckled at the stone age joke. "Well, now that you're awake, whaddya want to do?"
"I don't know." The crimson extraterrestrial scratched his head. "Wait, here's an idea. I know you don't want to get caught up in this whole 'saving the world' thing, but that doesn't mean that we still can't have a little fun running around on the wave world, blowing up viruses, that kind of stuff."
"Meh, I guess I could give it a try." Kelvin grabbed his Transer and leaped off of his top bunk, landing perfectly on his feet. "You'll have to teach me, though."
"Oh, no prob. Dad showed me how to do all of that stuff."
"Okay, first, how do I do that EM wave changing thing?"
"Alright, take your granddaddy's necklace off." The boy did as he was told. "Now, don't do anything until I tell you to. See that button on the side of your Transer? Press it. Oh, and just as a side note, yours is one of the few that have that button, so don't try looking for it on other people's. Then, put the necklace into the indent that the button will make. You may, at that time, yell 'EM Wave Change, Kelvin Stelar, On Air!' You don't have to, but it's kinda cool to say."
"Alright." The boy followed all of Zeta's instructions, even the yelling, though not loud enough for either of Sonia or Geo to hear him. After doing so, he felt an unusual sensation of energy coursing through his whole body while his clothing plastered to his skin, slowly becoming covered in a cold, deep purple, chain mail-like layer meant to be the final defense against an armor-breaking attack. Said armor was red in color and placed at the wrist three-fourths of the way to the elbow, the top of the hand, most of Kelvin's upper torso, his leg sections, and a helmet adorned with a pair of long, white diamond-shaped pieces just under his ears as well as two thin, short spikes of the same color as his initial covering. A pair of lime green lenses dropped from the helmet to cover Kelvin's eyes. A fixture was attached to his left forearm which looked something like a triple-sided vacuum, the smallest side facing him, the second smallest to the right side, and the largest just below the wrist, as well as a glass-case-like instrument on the very top. "Whoa! What's with this outfit?"
"This is what you'll look like when you EM Wave Change."
"So, what should we name it? I suggest Axl."
"The fairy tale character Axl? Why?"
"Well, what's my main weapon?"
"Lesse...a handheld laser pistol."
"There's your answer!"
"Axl was supposed to be predominantly dark gray and you're mostly red. I think Zero would fit best."
"What!? Zero looked nothing like me!"
"Ya wanna bet?" Zeta pulled up an internet picture of Zero from his latest appearance and moved it next to the human. "You're telling me that you look nothing this?" After a moment of thought, Kelvin yielded to the inevitable. The crimson alien affixed a symbol reminiscent of the large Z icon from the Megaman Zero series to the chest armor, over grandpa Kelvin's starforce pendant. Zeta then warped himself and the newly dubbed Zero onto the Wave Road. "Where would you like to go first?"
"Hmmm...why don't we just wander around here for a while?"
"We should probably get away from your house first. We don't need Geo to spot us with his glasses, do we?"
"Right." Kelvin ran along the road, and continued to do so for some time.
"So, this is your idea of wandering, is it?"
"Oh, sorry, I kind of like to run." The boy stopped.
"Well, I'm sure that'll come in handy sometime. For now, let's just walk around." The request was filled by Zero. After a bit, Zeta stopped the boy.
"What is it?"
"I feel a presence near us. Not very strong, but still here." A pick axe flew in Zero's direction. "Jump!" The boy obeyed as the axe flew through the spot he had been and landed on the ground behind him. He could hear arguing voices nearby.
"I told you not to throw it!" the first said.
"Sorry! I lost my grip!" came the second.
"You always 'lose your grip'!"
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
Zeta whispered to Kelvin. "Kid, why don't we quietly get closer? I'm curious as to what's going on." The child obeyed once more and walked as quietly as he could to the source of the noise.
"Great, now that guy is going to come over here and get us both. I tell ya, you're a real piece of work," the first said again.
"Hey, kid, did you bring any of those Battle Program things with you?" Zeta asked.
"Hmm, let me check." Kelvin reached into his non-existent pocket and pulled out a group he had stuffed in. "Yeah. About a dozen."
"Good. Use one of them."
"How?"
"Ya see that thingy on your left arm?" Zeta pointed to the triple-vacuum.
"No," the boy said sarcastically, obviously denoting its mass, which covered most of his forearm. The instrument on top opened up and exposed a small liquid crystal screen. Zeta disappeared and reappeared on the screen.
"This is where I'll be from now on. Okay, put your 'BPs' in here." A small slit opened next to the screen. The boy did as commanded. "You've got some fair programs here." He lined them up in front of him and sent each one into the nethers of the machine. "All of them have been downloaded. Now, you can call for one and it will come out the side there. Then, slide it into the one closest to you and it will produce the weapon in the front. Got all that?"
"I think. Let's try it." He assumed an appropriate stance and turned his arm away from himself. "Handgun!" The program slid out of the machine as Kelvin grabbed it. He placed in the back and watched the magic. The device shone gray and heated up, slightly irritating Kelvin. He lifted it up so that the front faced the sky. The pistol shot out and landed in the boy's hand. He pulled the trigger and shot the new weapon at the area near the source of the argument he heard earlier. The area around the blast exploded, rippling the Wave Road. It also sent the arguers, a pair of Metools, flying. They disintegrated after hitting a wall, causing a Program to fly into Kelvin's apparatus. "What's this?" he asked.
"When you defeat an enemy, you'll get a reward. It depends on how fast, how many at once, and how many programs you use while fighting them," Zeta answered matter-of-factly.
"So that's why dad has a few thousand of these."
"Go ahead and download it," suggested Zeta. Zero did just so.
"Grrrraaaaaawww!" A loud roar filled the air.
"What was that?" Kelvin looked around.
"We might be in trouble."
That's it for this chapter. Remember, it might not be until January that I finish the next Chapter.
