Awakening

She dreams she's awakening next to him. He's pale and fragile-looking, almost enough that she's afraid he'll shatter – like porcelain – but so very, very beautiful. And she's self-conscious about the way she looks, in her skin, and what he thinks of her, but he doesn't say anything. Just smiles at her.

And everything feels right. Like he kept all his promises. The world is perfect, and the moment couldn't be any better. Soft sheets, the sun streaming down through the window, the warmth of his skin. And his smiling eyes.

Then, she wakes up.

The world isn't perfect. It's at peace, and Japan is free. Like she'd wanted. But...

He didn't keep his promises.

Still, she will keep hers.
