Chapter 3

I sigh and go to find myself a vessel whilst Dean Winchester adapts to life back on Earth, finding both his brother, Samuel Winchester and Robert Singer. Whilst they accuse one another of lying and making deals and accuse me of being a demon, I find myself in New York City, trying to find a willing host for me to use.

I find this vessel in a small apartment near Wall Street, a young woman, named Jennifer, who is pretty enough, with a boyfriend called Matthew and a cat called Branny. She sits in her small studio apartment curled up on the sofa next to Branny, nibbling at her Chinese in front of the television. I smile, and can hear her begging for more in life; she opens herself for such opportunities, and doesn't wish to be stuck in a dead end job in a department store.

I am about to visit her and talk to her, and promise her great things, but I hear someone calling my name. My head snaps around and I frown, searching for the source of the call. And at the source, I see Pamela Barnes, known as the best psychic in the state, according to some mortals. She's holding a séance, and calling for me. I frown and warn her against it. It is too dangerous to see my true form.

"I invoke, conjure and command you: appear unto me before this circle." She begins

"Pamela, you mustn't," I mutter under my breath "not when I haven't a vessel."

"I invoke, conjure and command you: appear unto me before this circle." Dean Winchester's eyes are open now, looking around and as Pamela begins to chant repetitively, I see her determination and sigh. She just wants a 'sneak peek'. I decide to warn her once more.

"I invoke, conjure and command you-" Pamela ceases chanting and frowns in confusion "Ambriel?"

"Pamela Barnes, you will stop. You must turn back. This is not safe-"

"No, sorry Ambriel" she interrupts me "I don't scare easy."

"Pamela, take heed of my warning or suffer the consequences. The angels are working against you."

Dean Winchester asks why she is saying my name "Ambriel?"

"Its name," Pamela answers, ignoring me "it's whispering to me, warning me to turn back."

"Turn back, Pamela. This isn't wise" She's getting closer and I can feel her reaching out, trying to grasp my figure.

"I conjure and command you: show me your face." She's pulling me down, and I can't stop her. The table starts to shake.

"Pamela, please you must stop!"

"I conjure and command you: show me your face." She doesn't care. She's going to see my true form and I can't stop her from damaging herself.

"Pamela."

"I conjure and command you: show me your face."I growl and the boys around her are beginning to think badly of the idea. "I conjure and command you: show me your face." I grit my teeth but feel the barriers I created being broken down by her mind. I want to stop her but that would mean harming her, and I can't. It's a lose-lose situation.

"Maybe we should stop" Robert Singer tells her, his voice sounding more panicked.

"I almost got it." Pamela cries sternly and my natural instincts are taking over. I'll have to stop her penetrating my barrier. I don't want to, but I can't help myself "I conjure and command you: show me your face. Show me your face, now!"

She's through. And she screams in agony and I cry out too; a rush of human emotions breaking through and consuming me. My walls have been broken and I feel all human memories and emotion I used to hold come rushing back. And Pamela's burning. Her eyes are burning because it's too much. She can't handle my true form. Her eyes are bleeding. I'm so sorry, Pamela. I warned you, Pamela, and I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

"Ambriel!"

A hand to my mouth: smothering my screams and a body wrapping itself around mine, like a guardian. I scream into the hand and through the blinding lights surrounding us, I close my eyes, all emotions coursing through my body and toying with me.

"Ambriel, you must stop!" A deep voice I recognise, full of wisdom yet worry.

"I can't. It burns!"

"Ambriel!"

I scream once more and feel myself falling limp along with Pamela Barnes as I snap off the connection. Castiel catches me as I'm about to fall and I shudder in sobs, burying my face into his chest and allowing myself to be cradled by my brother. And I can still hear Pamela, and she's still screaming and sobbing and

"She's blind. I've made her blind."

She's screaming that she can't see. I can see, now I can see perfectly. I feel human again, with human emotions; one person's sight for another's. More tears fall and Castiel brings a kiss to my head, rocking me back and forth in what seems to be an alleyway. I must have fallen to the ground during the séance, and mustn't have felt it. I shouldn't care about that. What did I do? I must be a monster. But Castiel is here, and he's not a monster. He's my protector.

He holds me tight to his chest. And we stay there until dawn breaks the next day.

"Ambriel, Dean Winchester is with his brother in a diner surrounded by demons." My head snaps up in worry "Go, help him. I must speak to the Highers." I nod quickly and jump up, detangling myself from him and watching Castiel fly away in the opposite direction to me.

"I love you, brother."
