Back to the Future: 2015

Marty McFly Jr. was hoverboarding to Doc Brown's house who hadn't been in contact with Marty Jr. for at least a week. MJ had got worried so this morning before school he had decided to go down there.

“Doc, doc?” MJ shouted throughout the empty house. He had his own key so he entered the house. The room was small and cluttered but Doc had always been unorganised. MJ noticed that the walls were covered in clocks which was a little eccentric. Dr. Jules E. Brown and his dog Newton had lived here for 30 years inventing and providing the town with help regarding science needs. MJ had known him through his father who had know Jules' father, Dr. Emmett L. Brown. He had come round one day to assist him with some experiment and since then they had developed something of a friendship. MJ saw what appeared to be a giant TV screen against one wall. He went over and plugged it in to a nearby socket. He flicked through all the channels until he found one with decent music on. He turned up the volume full blast and sang along. The picture started going fuzzy so MJ fiddled with the remote until there was a loud screeching noise. There was a mini explosion and the screen cracked. It fell straight forward and Marty Jr. jumped back into a bookshelf which wobbled and dropped almost on top of him. Then the phone rang which had been buried under all the clutter and was impossible to find. A pile of paper's moved slightly and MJ assumed the phone was under there. It was and he answered.

“Yo.”

“MJ is that you?”

“Yeah, it's me. Where've ya been all week? Is Newton with you?”

“Yes Newton's here. I've made a major breakthrough and require your assistance. Can you meet me at Lone Pine's Mall and 1:15am?”

“Wait 1:15 in the morn...” MJ was cut off by the loud ringing of the clocks in the background.

“Are those my clocks I here?”

“Yeah, it's er... 8 O' clock.”

“Perfect, they're all exactly 25 minutes slow!”

“Wait, Doc are you telling me it's 8:25?”

“Precisely.”

“Damn. I'm late for school.” MJ hung up the phone and headed to the door. He locked it in a flurry and grabbed his hoverboard. The gate was locked so he quickly undid it and slammed it shut then jumped on his board and held on to the back of a car heading in the same direction as him. It was at least a ten minute journey to school. He hovered faster than the car and grabbed the one in front of him. They went past the old courthouse which was permanently stuck on 10:04. MJ knew the story, his dad had told him and Doc had told him. The car approached the school but turned off before it so MJ let go and hovered towards the old school. MJ's girlfriend Emma was waiting outside.

“MJ, don't go in this way. Tannen's looking for you. If he catches you again it'll be four tardies in a row.” They turned around and went round the back only to be greeted by the head, Mr. Cliff Tannen.

“Well well, Mr. McFly. Here's a tardy slip for you Miss. Marshall.” He handed her the slip and continued. “And one for you McFly, I believe that makes four in a row.”

“You know it wasn't my fault. The Doc set all his clocks 25 minutes slow.”

“The 'Doc'. Am I to understand you're still hanging about with Dr. Jules Brown, McFly. I told you the guy's a crackpot. His father he was a crackpot too. You should find friends your own age McFly. My son Griff, that's the kind of person you want to be friends with.”

“Oh yes sir.”

“You've got a real attitude problem, McFly. You're a slacker! You remind me of you're father when I attended school with him, he was a slacker too. Your father always showed high hopes of achieving well along with your grandfather. Your grandfather had one book that was a success and your dad was the same story but it was one song in the charts. I noticed your band is on the roster for the dance audition. Why even bother McFly? You're too much like you're father and grandfather. No McFly ever amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley.”

“Yeah, well history is going to change.”

After school, MJ met Emma and his band members. They headed to the hall where the auditions were taking place and set up on the stage. There band was called “The Time Bandits” and they began to play some of Huey Lewis and the News' The Power of Love. MJ felt it was going well when the middle judge in a row of three announced they were just too darn loud.

Emma and MJ were in town after the failed audition. They walked along the fountain which was outside the courthouse.

“One rejection isn't the end of the world. This audition tape of yours it's great. You should send it in to the record company.”

“But what if they hate it? What if they say 'get out of here kid you got no future'? I mean I just can't think I could take that kind of a rejection. I don't want to end up like my old man.”

“At least he's letting you borrow the car tomorrow night.”

“I'm taking the car. That way I can avoid any and all questions my mum will ask me about my intentions.” MJ laughed and watched the latest hover car which was currently flying in to the two storey garage.

“Check out that hover car. Wouldn't it be great to take that car up to the lake? Throw a couple of sleeping bags in the back and lay out underneath the stars.” MJ pictured which lead them into an awkward silence until Emma broke it.

“Does your mum know about tomorrow night?”

“No get out of town, she thinks I'm going camping with the guys. Listen Em, my mum would freak out if she knew.”

“She's just trying to keep you respectable.” Emma leant in to kiss Marty but it was interrupted by the sound a car horn. “That's my dad. Call me I'll be at my grandma's. Here's the number.” Emma rummaged through her bag looking for a piece of paper to write down the number. She found an old newspaper clipping entitled “On This Day in 1985”. She wrote down the number and kissed MJ passionately on the lips before turning away and getting in the car. MJ smiled as he read what Emma had wrote on the back on the clipping. It read “I Love You” and then her number followed. He got up from off the bench and figured he's head home since it was getting late. Plus, if he had to meet Doc at 1:15 he'd better get some sleep.
