The Slayer Who Would Be Ordinary

Summary: When Willow performs a spell that brings Spike back from the dead,
Buffy must give up that which makes her the Slayer. What will happen when they find out that The First is back, who has plans in store for Buffy and Andrew that will change everything?

Warning/Disclaimer: Adult content and mild swearing. I own nothing except the
plot line. Everything else belong entirely to the Fox network and its creator
Joss Weadon. Absolutely no money will be made from this.

A/N: Post-Chosen. This is my first attempt at a fic for the Buffy fandom and
so I would really appreciate some reviews to let me know how I am doing.
Thanks! There is going to be an Andrew/Buffy affair in this fic, but it is
mainly a Spike/Buffy one. They are my favorite pairing from the series after
all. But what would Buffy be without all the drama?

Just wanted to give a big Thank You! To my beta reader: 'Lady Henrietta' for correcting this story for me. Thanks so much! It really means a lot!

Main Pairing: Spike/Buffy Summers

Chapter One: He's Back

The sunlight filtered through the window and landed softly on Buffy's pale
skin causing her to lazily blink her eyes open. She groaned grabbing the
pillow from behind her head and covered her face with it to block out the
sun's light. She hated mornings. Most of the time anyway. She heard footsteps
and the blinds to her window shut and knew instantly who it was.

“Rise and shine Slayer,” Spike teased moving to the bed and stole the
pillow from her hands tossing it aside.

“Hey,” she cried sitting up as he crouched down besides the bed and took
her hands in his. He gazed deeply into her eyes and moved forward to give her
a good morning kiss. She had finally admitted she loved him back the night
before and she had never seen him this happy, this content than right now as
he smiled at her. His eyes lit up and she new it was soul shining through
them. She never thought she'd come to love and adore him this much. But
somehow, fate had brought them together and here they were, in her room,
admiring one another, seeing each other's love through each other's eyes.

“I want you to know. I will always love you. No matter what, you will
always be my lady and I will always be your man.” Buffy felt tears glaze her
eyes. She new that it was William speaking now. Not Spike. And she had come to
adore the part of Spike that was William. He had such a way with words that it
could melt any girl’s heart.

“I will always be your lady...William.” She initiated the kiss then, but
something didn't feel right and she pulled back.

“Buffy?” his voice sounded distant as he stood and backed away from her
back to the window.

“Spike what do think you're doing? Get away from there now.” She felt
panic rise watching him move closer and closer to the shaded window.

“Buffy, I love you!” he cried pulling the blinds open in one swift
movement so the suns rays were beating down on him. She could only watch in
horror as he was slowly and painfully burnt to a crisp until only his ashes
remained on the floor. She couldn't move, couldn't breathe. She just stared
down helplessly at the remains of the man she loved.

“Buffy?” She heard a faint voice cry out and felt someone shaking her
shoulder. She jolted awake panting and wiped the tears from her eyes.

“That must have been some nightmare,” Buffy looked up with tear stained
eyes at Willow, who sat down beside her on the bed in their new house and
wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulder.

“You were calling out Spike's name. Is there something you want to talk
about Buffy? I mean, I know that the two of you were getting close before
he...” Willow paused. No one dared speak about the death of the vampire who
saved them all around Buffy knowing that it still haunted her. Buffy shook her
head as it fell into her arms and she continued to sob her aching heart out.
The red head didn't know what to do other than hold her and tell her that
everything was going to be okay.

“If I could bring him back for you Buffy I would.” It was than that
Willow remembered an old spell she once read regarding Slayers and got an idea.
Part of her hoped that Buffy would reject it, but another part just wanted to
see her friend happy again and knew that Spike was the only one who could do
that. Although she personally disliked the peroxide blond vampire, she had to
admit that he had changed and that he wasn't such a big bad the last couple of
years after all.

She sighed and pulled away, her hands still gently planted on her best
friend’s shoulders. She lifted her chin up so that she could see her better and
dried her tears. “There is one way to get him back Buffy. But I'm afraid it
doesn't come without a price.”

“I would give anything to see him again and tell him how I really feel. I was so awful to him Willow. And all he was trying to do was help. At least for those last two years. Even when he got his soul back, I knew then that he had changed and still I treated him like dirt. He said he loved me numerous times and I just threw it back in his face. He wasn't the monster Willow, I was. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have come to help the potentials after Faith was injured and couldn't lead anymore. He picked me up off the ground and made me believe in myself again.”

Willow listened to Buffy as she poured her heart into the words. She still felt awful about turning her back on Buffy and following Faith, which of course didn't work out as everyone thought it would. Though in all fairness, it wasn't entirely her fault. She shook those unpleasant memories away and focused on the present and on Buffy, who needed her help.

“I'm afraid the price is you Buffy. I mean, the part of you that makes you the Slayer. If you decide to go through with this? You wont be Buffy the Vampire Slayer anymore. You'll be Buffy the Ordinary. But you'll still be Buffy Summers and you'll have Spike back if that's truly what you want?” Willow waited patiently for Buffy to answer. She knew that this wasn't a decision to be made lightly and would give Buffy all the time she needed.

After about ten minutes or so, Buffy looked up into Willow's eyes. She
appeared more confident, but Willow knew that she was now just putting on a
brave face for her benefit. “What do I have to do to prepare?” Willow
sighed, she didn't expect her to make the decision so quickly. She scooted of
the bed and helped her up. She led the way to her room, locked the door and
made a circle on the floor. She closed the blinds so that there wasn't much
light escaping into to the room. She then lit two scented candles and handed
one to Buffy as they sat down in the circle by the foot of the bed facing each
other.

“Do you remember the words to the spell without the book?” Buffy probed.
Willow opened her eyes after taking a few deep breaths to prepare herself. She
simply smiled and reached out her hands for Buffy to take. Buffy smiled a
little back taking her hands. They were trembling and Willow knew she was
scared.

“You don't have to do this,” she reminded and again apart of her hoped
that Buffy would back out, but she shook head staring firmly into her eyes.

“There is a another to take my place as the Slayer. I have to do this
Willow. I owe it to him and I owe it to myself. And who knows, maybe being
normal means I'll get to have some actual fun for a change.”

Willow smiled at her positive attitude about the whole thing, but knew that a
part of her was terrified of the prospect of becoming normal. She straightened
up and closed her eyes and begun the enchantment.

Buffy listened to Willow knowing that after this spell was over she wouldn't
be the Slayer anymore. A part of her was terrified, but another part of her
was relieved that after seven long years she would no longer have to carry
this burden. She could finally just be herself. Buffy Summers with no strings
attached, no rules to constantly follow. Slayer rules that is. And no more
battles to fight. Oh, she knew that she would still have to be on the alert
for trouble and would possibly have to defend herself. After all, an ex/slayer
would make a very tempting target for any vampire.

As the spell continued Buffy began to feel light headed and weak. She wanted
to ask Willow if that were normal, but didn't want to interrupt and possibly
cause the spell to go horribly wrong. She felt dizzy and her head hurt.
Her eyes were starting feel heavy just as a portal of some kind appeared
beside them. She gazed at it, Willow's voice was becoming more distant. She
finally had enough and collapsed. She managed to make out a figure being
thrown through the portal before blacking out.

Willow jumped at the sound of a body hitting the floor and opened her eyes
just as the portal closed. It was Spike, he looked none the worse for wear as
he pushed himself up off the floor.

“What the bugger?” 'Yep, that's Spike alright!' Willow couldn't help but
smile as his eyes found hers first. “Red, what bloody hell am I doing
here?”

“It worked,” was all she could say at the moment still too pleased with
herself that the spell actually worked. They had gotten Spike back and now
Buffy can be happy.

“What worked? What the sodding devil is going on here? The last thing I
remember was...” He froze as his frantic eyes landed on Buffy's still form
lying on the floor. “Buffy,” he cried crawling his way over to her. He
checked her pulse and sighed with relief when he found one and realized
that she must have just blacked out or something. He pulled her into his arms
and held her tightly. He kissed the top of her head and smoothed her hair
out of her face before lifting his eyes to glare at the witch. “What did you
do now Red?”

Willow was hurt by his harsh tone with her. After all, she had just brought
him back from the dead. The least he could say was thank you. But noooo. She
glared back. “I just brought your miserable existence back from the dead.
The least you could do is say thank you.”

Spike raised his eyebrows at this as if he hadn't a clue to what she was
talking about and laughed, “Dead you say? Yeah, sure. Good one Red.”

“How else do you explain just suddenly waking up in my room? What's the
last thing you do remember?”

Spike sighed recalling his last memory and winced, “I was being burnt to a
crisp.”

Willow uncrossed her legs and waved her hand in an 'I told you so' manner,
“There you go.”

Spike gazed down at Buffy tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.

Willow watched Spike. She hadn’t seen it before, but now she could. And she
actually felt sorry for him, for how she and the others had treated him before,
and hoped that he'd get his chance with Buffy. Although she wouldn't admit
this to Xander.

“You really love her don't you?” Spike looked her way and
smiled a little as his answer.

Willow was beginning to see what her best friend saw in the Vampire and
smiled back as she pushed herself to her feet.

“Put her on my bed. She should be waking up any minute,” she instructed.
Spike nodded picking up Buffy and carried her to the bed. He laid her gently
upon it and pressed a light kiss to her forehead before looking back at Red
who sat on the edge of the bed besides Buffy.

“What's wrong with her?”

Willow sighed at the question knowing that he'll be angry about the answer.
That Buffy would do this just for him when others needed her protection. She
just hoped that he'd eventually understand why she did it.

“Nothing Spike. She's gonna be fine. You'll see.” She couldn't bring
herself to tell him and decided to wait for Buffy to wake up to do so.
