Chapter 6.
She was waiting impatiently for him to return. She hated it to wait. She had her arms crossed and was pacing the length of the room, still barefoot.
After twenty minutes of this, the door was opened and Chrno stepped inside. He was smiling friendly at her, but she just scowled back at him “Don’t even start with your sweet talking me.” She grumbled warningly, making Chrno chuckle softly “I will do no such thing; I only want you to follow me.”
She decided she hated that smile of his; it was as if he was mocking her. She huffed and passed by him. Before she could get any ideas, he grabbed her hand “Don’t want you to fall and hurt yourself.” He grinned “What with these high heels you’re wearing.”
“Oh shut it!” she snapped and looked with disgust at the hand clasping hers. He led her along the hallway and down a corridor to the right. After that through a dark door at the end and down a lot of stairs.
A shrill scream suddenly broke the silence and Chrno automatically tightened his grip around the girl’s hand. She wanted to pull away, but couldn’t free her hand “Where are you bringing me? What are you gonna do?” she asked, a tiny flame of fear starting to flare up within her “You’re going to kill me am I right? I’M TALKING TO YOU!!!”
Chrno ignored her and it actually pissed her off. She most of all just wanted to hit that purple crown of him.
All of a sudden he stopped in front of another dark door. He opened it and pulled her through it. He let go of her hand and locked the door. The room was all dark and the only thing which could be heard was her breathing. She felt a presence looming right behind her and a warm voice whispering “You aren’t scared are you?”
“Never!” she snapped back.
Chrno chuckled “That’s good, because I have a simple little task for you my dear.”
“Turn on the damn light; I can’t see a thing in this room.” She grumbled “What task is it?”
“You need to be more patient.” Chrno told her, with a teasing smile audible in his voice. She had the urge to smack him, or do something worse.
Chrno moved over behind her and grabbed her hand. Something was placed in her palm and she found out it was a gun “What do I do with it?” she asked, but got no answer. Her other wrist was enclosed in the man’s grasp as well.
“I want you to pull the trigger when I say so.” He whispered and as soon as the sentence was finished, a spotlight brightened the room.
A hunched over figure was sitting at a dark wall, hands and legs tied firmly together and a blindfold covering his eyes. His long hair covered his face. The guy wasn’t moving at all though.
“What did you do? Release him!” Rosette ordered.
“He has betrayed the Sinners and deserves nothing else than the death, now pull the trigger and end his miserable life.”
Her eyes widened “I will not kill another human being!” she growled and tried to break the grasp he had on her wrist “Let me go!”
“I thought you wanted to be a Sinner.”
“Yes, but I will not kill a man I have never met.”
“You have to.”
“I refuse to do it!” she snarled.
“You must.” Chrno growled back.
Rosette called him a lot of colourful things. Chrno was caught off guard, he had never heard a woman say such words before... that was much unspoken for.
“I WILL NOT DO IT YOU *F-BEEP A-BEEP*!!!”
Chrno sighed “Alright,” He smiled “I guess I can’t make you do it.”
Rosette let out a relieved breath “Thank you.”
“I’ll have to do it myself then.” He grabbed the gun from her hand, aimed and shot. The blonde let out a scream as the bullet collided with the body of the poor defenceless man. His body fell to the ground lifeless.
Rosette was horrified, but then she noticed something strange. The man’s hair had fallen off, revealing a bald head made of...- “WOOD? THAT WAS A DOLL??? WHAT THE HECK!!!!” She spun around to face him “YOU NEVER BELIEVED ME ONE BIT DID YOU???”
Chrno released her hands “I am afraid you didn’t pass the test my dear...” he said with a smug smirk “Of course I don’t trust you.”
By now the blonde was steaming with anger. She wanted to scratch out the eyes of that handsome man in front of her. Chrno, as if able to feel Rosette’s anger said with a smile “I know what you want to do my dear, but I’m afraid I can’t let you do that.”
Rosette didn’t answer and clenched her fists. She hauled her right fist back and shot it at the young man’s face. He wasn’t able to dodge it this time and stumbled back as her fist collided with his jaw. The blonde took the opportunity and made a run for it, hearing the curses from Chrno as she did so. She jumped out the door, up the stairs and along the corridor.
“I have to get out of here.” She thought frantically and stormed around a corner.
Suddenly she was able to make out the sound of footsteps behind her; she turned her head to look over her shoulder. Chrno was running about five metres behind her and it looked as if he was gaining in on her. She cursed and increased her own speed. She was quite surprised that she hadn’t seen any other people inside the building.
Her breath came out in hard pants by now “I should really train some more.” She thought and involuntarily had to slow down. At least Chrno would be tired as well by now.
She turned another corner and found a door to the outside. It was glass doors that lead into the garden with the pool. She cheered inwardly and opened the door. She hurried through and wanted to run into freedom, when she suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist.
“NO!” she yelped and fell. Unfortunately she fell backwards straight into the cool water of the swimming pool with a loud splash, the person holding her involuntarily following her. She fought out of the grasp and resurfaced a little later. She spit out the water and panted while holding her head over water.
A purple haired head emerged from the water a couple of seconds after her “Trying to get away from me ey?” he grinned, rubbing his sore cheek “Sorry love but that won’t work.”
She growled inhuman curses upon him and started swimming towards the ladder which led out of the water. She didn’t come very far though when Chrno grabbed her wrist “No running away again,” he smiled “I’ll get out first.”
He got up and then helped her out of the water as well. She turned her back on the young man “I hate you so much!” she mumbled angrily and crossed her arms. Chrno stepped over behind her and grasped her arm gently, making sure she wouldn’t start running away again “It would be strange if you didn’t... I think we should change into dry clothes now though before one or both of us get a cold.”
He gave her hand a little tug and led her towards the room she had been in during the night. She narrowed her eyes and glared at him “You want to lock me up again?”
“I’m sorry... but I have to.” He smiled “Stay here and I’ll bring you some dry clothes.” Then he left and locked the door.
Once again she found herself in the damn room. She now not only cursed Chrno, but Gilliam as well “Here I could have been out, catching thieves and stuff, but Noooo... I had to be Miss Lucky and get the case from which I can’t escape again...” her rant continued on and on and on, but absolutely no one cared.
