The glowing red of the Bleed permeated the windows of their bedroom on the Carrier. Midnighter rolled onto his side, seeking the gentle warmth of his lover. He reached a hand out, fingers grasping at air. His expression turned from tired to puzzled, and his computer went into over-drive, coming up with reasons for his husband’s sudden disappearance. He knew the real reason and slid out of bed, pulling on his long, leather coat and donning the mysterious black mask.

“Door. Take me to Apollo.”

He stepped out of the swirling red and orange into a field of fresh grass and wildflowers. The man of his affection sat with his back toward him, long white hair flowing softly in the lazy breeze.

“I couldn’t sleep,” he suddenly spoke up, and the Midnighter crossed the expanse.

“I thought you’d be out catching some rays.”

The God chuckled, throwing his head back and closing his cerulean eyes.

“Sit with me. It’s nice here.”
