On her back, Evangeline waited for the sun to rise from the East, to grant her the cleansing flame she deserved. She needed not turn to see the bloody remains of her father, what she did to him and the others remained clearly in her mind, vividly replaying themselves in her memory.

Despite what she did, even when bundled with wounds from both swords and claws, the master of the McDowell castle escorted his daughter to safety, away from the fanatics who wanted her dead. They caught up to the pair nevertheless, the elder McDowell fought bravely, though he managed to slay them all, his wounds were grave. In his last moment, her father only wished to embrace Evangeline once more, however, frightened and unnerved, she was afraid of granting his last wish, fearing of what she would do to him. He soon passed on with a serene smile still spotted on his blood-smudged lips, leaving the young girl alone once more in this abandoned forest chapel.

Evangeline smiled sadly to herself, accepting her fate as the dawn’s first light patted lightly upon her bare feet. The pain was unbearable, hardening her will, she tried to endure the pain, for a monster like her must not be allowed to live. Evangeline shielded her eyes from the blinding light with one hand, wondering how could she had once begged to her parents to let her play under such unforgiving light. Overwhelmed by the burning sensation, Evangeline passed out, believing that she would be going to hell.

Awakened by the howling from the wolves to their moon, Evangeline found herself to be miraculously alive. Charred and burnt, but alive. Even death had forsaken her.

Author: This is a remade of the first chapter of an unpublished work "Sins", in the original version, two other characters are introduced other than Eva's dad, one being the 'demon' who is the source of Eva's curse, while the one a future-mentor for the next one chapter. Together with her father, they reveal the background information, including the fact that Eva is a Shinso, and that unlike the mentor who has to develop his immunity towards sunlight through his centuries lifespan, Eva is right out immune to it, though it still weakens her greatly.
