Too Little, Too Late.
--
Miley came around the corner happily. She couldn’t believe she was done shooting a movie, so now she can spend time with her friends. She had so much to tell. And while she was gone, she realized she needed to tell one particular person about the way she felt, and maybe, just maybe, he would return her feelings. Miley had always thought of Oliver as just a friend, until they parted. When she hugged him, it felt different. And those last four months, she could NOT stop thinking about him. She didn’t know what had changed, but all she knew was that maybe it would be the start of something new. She wasn’t prepared for what she saw waiting for her around the corner.
As she turned, she opened her mouth to talk, but looking at the scene before her, her mouth fell open in surprise instead. Her stomach did multiple flips, and she found herself breathless as she stared at her two best friends kissing. Kissing. At this point Miley couldn’t even form a coherent thought. She watched them pull away from each other with a smile, and biting her lip slightly, she retreated back into her room, heart shattering into pieces.

Ever since that dreadful day Miley found out about Lilly and Oliver, she had tried her best to cover up the feelings she shared for her friend. When the two of them temporarily broke up, she put them back together. When prom came around, she found herself a suitable date (even though she found herself wanting to be with someone else).
Even kissing Jake didn’t help at all. Of course, she liked Jake. The kiss they shared in the hotel rekindled all the hidden emotions she felt for the boy. But getting with him was a waste of time. He still had some growing up to do, and a little more learning about how to not be so shallow. Oliver felt like her last resort, and she lost even that.
What was a girl to do?
Miley sighed as she pressed the button on her camera, going through all the pictures she taken. The memories were gold. She could never be mad at her friends, but she did find herself distancing away from them. Not like they really noticed anyway, they were too busy being a ‘couple’ and so cute it was sickening.
Maybe I was meant to be alone. The brunette sighed as she passed a picture of Jackson sleeping with drool all over his pillow, and paused when she found a picture of just her and Oliver, smiling big and doing silly poses. Lilly had taken the picture for them. She smiled a little, going to the next picture and seeing herself laughing, arms thrown happily around Oliver, Lilly right beside them, smiling. It almost seemed like it was meant to be. But when she looked at the big picture, she realized she had raised her expectations too high, and it was nothing but a dream.
Miley shut her camera off, sighing as she tossed it to the side. She got off her bed and pulled her pink laptop closer to her, cutting it on and leaning against the wall of her room as she waited for it to start. She signed on to instant messenger the moment she got on. It was ten o’ clock on a summer night, someone was bound to be up at this moment.
Her screen loaded, and she looked on her friends list. Nearly all the people she associated with were offline, except for two people she wasn’t in the mood to see. She was about to sign right back off, but she was cut off by an invitation to a chat. Miley sighed as she stared at it for a minute, but she reluctantly agreed and was led to a chat between her two friends.
Ollykins: MILEYY!
Lollykins: hey girl! we miss u!
Miley resisted the urge to roll her eyes. So they finally notice my existence. Aren’t I lucky. She was glad they couldn’t see her face. She could barely look at their new matching screen names. She typed back:
MissPopstar16: hey guys. what’s up?
Ollykins: the sky of course. ;D
Lollykins: Lol Olly, ur so funny.
Ollykins: No way, ur funnier.
Lollykins: NOOOO. u are. :D
Ollykins: Na-uh, u are.
Lollykins: Aww. Olly, ur so sweet.
Ollykins: not as sweet as u. [:
“Sweet niblets.” Miley muttered as she stared at the screen blankly as she watched the exchange. As if she couldn’t get enough of this in the real world. Finally she just couldn’t take it anymore.
Ollykins: ur so cute!
Lollykins: no way, ur much cuter!
MissPopstar16: you’re both cute. the end.
Ollykins: aww, thanks miles, but we both know that im cuter than lilly. ;D jk.
MissPopstar16: i think im going to bed. g’night.
Lollykins: wait, miley dont leave. what’s wrong?
MissPopstar16: nothing.
Ollykins: yes its something. i can tell its something. tell us.
MissPopstar16: i just had a long day, and im tired. plus, i don’t want to be a third wheel in this chat, so im outie.
Lollykins: wait we didnt mean to make you feel like that.
MissPopstar16: its fine lilly. i just want to go to bed.
Lollykins: alright then…
Ollykins: night.
With that being said, Miley logged off instant messenger, sighing heavily in frustration. She knew the pair of them are talking about her at the moment, but frankly she didn’t care. She was one selfish, jealous girl, but she couldn’t help it. She wanted Oliver but he was already taken.
Miley slumped into her pillow, burying her face in it as she grunted. Finally, the one thing she couldn’t get, and she didn’t even have to be Hannah Montana this time.
Welcome to the real world, Miley the girl told herself as she closed her eyes, attempting to get some sleep.
