Prompt: What I Like About You - "I Love You…Soon"

It was the day she had her first ultrasound that he realized he was a goner. As she'd clutched his hand in a vice grip, worrying about everything from birth defects to the baby being born with a tail, he'd realized it. He loved her. Not as a friend…Not as a colleague. No. It was that bone deep, seize your heart in your chest kind of love.

Turning his eyes from her to the screen, David's heart stopped as he focused on the image on the screen. Damn! Now, he had two of them to love. He hadn't planned any of this. When he'd held her hand two months ago on that crime scene in Georgia, he'd never intended to fall in love. It had happened gradually over the last couple of months. It had happened when he'd held her hair back on the plane rides to and from cases as she'd suffered those grueling bouts of morning sickness. It had happened as he was plucking endless cups of coffee from her hands and replaced them with hot tea. It had happened when he'd accompanied her to each and every doctor appointment. It had happened on those nights when she'd sat in his porch swing beside him and worried about the future. It had just happened. And he couldn't undo it. Didn't want to undo it.

Pulling himself back to the current event, he heard the doctor ask, "Do you want to know what you're having, Agent Jareau?"

Lifting blue eyes to his, JJ squeezed his hand. "Do we?" she whispered.

Smiling down at her, he nodded. "I'm game if you are, Jen. It's your call."

Watching as she turned back to the doctor and nodded, his breath caught in his throat.

"It's a girl," the doctor grinned.

A girl, he thought. A mini-Jennifer. He was royally screwed now. There really were going to be two of them. There was no way he'd ever be able to walk away now. Not from an angel with her mama's eyes. He knew he should run. Far and fast. But gazing back down at the hopeful face staring at the monitor, he knew he wouldn't. He couldn't. He loved her. He loved them.

And, he was going to have to tell her. Soon. He only hoped that he could convince her that he was what she needed….prayed she could return a tenth of what he felt for her. Revelations were coming, he thought, stroking the hair on her turned head as she gazed wonderingly at the screen. Revelations that were bound to alter both of their realities.
