Authors Note: This is a story that I am trying to bring back from the grave. It is also one of the six stories that I am multi-tasking on. Since it was the show that got me into writing. I decided to continue writing this story.
Takeshi, Liz, and Amy we're in the wreck room at the Satomi Headquarters. Amy was reading a magazine with Luca on her lap, Liz was on the couch taking a nap, and Takeshi was sitting on the floor on his laptop. They were waiting for Miss Satomi to call them into the meeting room. Apparently there was supposed to be a new position this season and the Team Satomi pilots was trying to prepare for it if the rumor was true.
"Amy, Liz, what do you think about the rumors on the new position," Takeshi said. "Do you think they're true?"
"No clue," Liz yawned. "It's probably what this meeting is about. If it is then we gotta figure out new strategies to work with this new position. If it isn't then we just need to prepare like any other season."
"Amy, what do you think?"
"Same with Liz really," Amy said with her usual quiet voice. "We just need to prepare either way. Whether or not the rumors are true or not. But, I'll be honest. I'm hoping they are true. More strategy and preparation. It'd just make the sport a little more exciting."
Their conversation was cut short. Jesse, Miss Satomi's assistant, then came into the room. "Okay guys the meeting is about to begin."
At the meeting room after everyone took their seats. Miss Satomi got up and began the meeting. "As you guys might already know. There are rumors going around about a new position. Well those rumors are true and we need to prepare for it."
"Well what do you know," Takeshi said giving one of his signature grins. "We were just talking about it in the wreck room.
"Ignore him," Liz said. "So what's the new position about?"
"We have Andrei to explain that," she responded. She took her seat and Andrei got up, cleared his throat, and began to talk.
"The new position is the offense position," he said taking his signature small remote from his pocket and showing an example of the mech that would cover the position on the projector screen. He continued to do this as he kept talking about the position. "It can do damage equal to or better than the defense position. It can also do damage in speed mode. But, it is also very slow as well. However, rich teams like Velshtine can make their mechs have speed on par with mid-field, making them a destructive force on the track."
"But, sadly," Miss Satomi sighed. "We, as usual, don't have the funds to make one. So we're holding a tournament, the competitors are going to have to have a blue-print of their mech that they have made or at least designed. They're going to tell us what they're good at and they're going to run the simulator to see how good they are with operating a mech. It is going to begin in two day's, so have a light workout and run the simulation machine at least once and then take the rest of the two days off."
"Understood," the three pilots said. They then got up and headed towards the workout room.
The two day wait was very short and already they were at the viewing room, watching the candidates run the simulations. They had (pretty much) had turned it into a mini cabinet room basically. Files of the candidates and their talents. Copies of their mech's blueprints, and recorded films of their simulator runs Only about fifty people signed up for the position for Team Satomi. . While it was a decent amount though, none of the candidates showed to have any decent talent at the simulator, though their mechs and their talents outside the simulator were more than impressive.
Twilight was approaching and they were at the third-to-last candidate.
Miss Satomi pressed a button to the side of her that would turn on the intercom. "Candidate number forty-seven come in please."
It was a male, around the same age as Amy. He has short dirty-blond hair, blue eyes, and had a slight tan. He had a light grey t-shirt, blue jeans, a dark grey zip-up hoodie, tennis shoes, and a chain necklace with five dog tags on it.
"You called," he asked.
"Yes," Miss Satomi replied. She then picked a clipboard and checked it. "Your Austin Davidson, right?"
"Yep," he replied as he sat down in front of them.
"Any talents that we should know of," she asked.
"Let's see," Austin thought aloud, tilting his head back to think. "I'm a expert with hand-to-hand combat. An IQ of 200. Other than that I really can't think of anything."
As Miss Satomi and Andrei were asking him questions. The Satomi pilots started their own conversation to themselves.
" Looks like another genius kid," Takeshi murmured to Liz and Amy.
" Hey nothing wrong with that," Liz hissed back. "We'll just have another strategist."
" I'm kinda surprised," Amy said quietly. " Though most of the candidates were smart and were combat masters. But for a kid that's pretty impressive."
" Don't play that game Amy," Liz whispered. " Your a genius too."
" Yeah, but I'm not a master at hand-to-hand combat like he is," she replied.
" Either way. He'd make great addition to our team."
" Then all we need to do is see how good he is a the simulator," Takeshi whispered back.
Liz cracked a grin. " I'm looking forward to it." They then turned their heads back to the meeting.
" Did you bring a blueprint of your mech," Mark said.
" Yes," the candidate said. He reached into his wallet and pulled it out. He unfolded it and handed it to Mark.
Mark was impressed by the mechs design. He had he seen basic models of the offense position mechs and the ones the previous candidates had brought in. This mech was about seven hundred pounds lighter than the lightest one he has seen, making its speed on par with Amy's mech. It's weapons were knife-like and each arm was equipped with them. There were four knives total one knife on each arm for throwing, and one on each arm for combat for combat. All he really need to do was give it a decent engine, and it could be good enough to keep with rest of the Satomi Mechs ( Since theirs were based on speed).
" You make these designs yourself kid," Mark asked.
" Partially," he said. "My uncle also helped as well. It's also built completely as well."
" From the blue prints, I'm guessing that knives are your weapon of choice?"
" Yep."
" Okay I think we have all that we need then," Andrei said before Mark could ask anymore about Austin's blueprints. " Follow me and we'll get you suited up for the simulator run."
The candidates were using a basic offense unit for the simulator that Team Satomi found off the Internet. The computers were usual forwards.
Austin got suited up and had gone into the simulator. Team Satomi looked onward from the viewing room. They paired the candidates up against the highest level on the simulator. The same level Amy went up against when she recovered from her injury. So Austin was going up against a computer difficulty on par with Rocket-G.
"Are you ready kid," Andrei said through a communicator.
"Roger," Austin replied with a hint of confidence in his voice.
"Don't get cocky kid," he sighed. He then gave Mark a nod to start the simulator. After that started he and mark went back the viewing room to watch the fight.
Austin and the computer circled each other at first. The computer then threw a series of punches at the candidate. He blocked each one with ease and then sent a few jabs back himself, which the computer blocked as well.
"Not bad," Andrei said. Giving a closer look. While most of the candidates already make this far. He hadn't seen any of the candidates block as the blows.
The two began to circle one another again. Waiting to see a flaw with the others position. This time it was Austin to attack. He threw some more jabs at the the computer, which it blocked as it was blocking Austin last jab he grabbed it's left arm and brought his other arm down on the limb, which shattered from the impact.
"He's good," Takeshi said.
"Yeah he is," Liz replied.
Austin was now on the offensive. Throwing attack after attack at the computer. Though it lost an arm, it was far from being beaten, it blocked every one of Austin's strikes. It then gave a punch at Austin's right arm, damaging it severely. Austin then went back on the defensive, blocking it's strikes. But since his mechs right arm damaged it was giving way to the computer's blows. The computer gave a last jab and destroyed the right arm. It then started began to give blows to his mid-section. Austin parried the blow with his remaining arm and punched it in the mid-section, making it crash back a few feet. The computer recovered they clashed once again.
The team thought Austin would be at a disadvantage since he had only one arm left on his mech but he was still holding his own against the computer. He gave a jab towrds the the computer, but it was blocked. He then gave him a kick to it's blind side, the side with no attack hit the computer's midsection and it crashed to the ground which damaged it severely (for one blow anyway). Austin then jumped towards it and brought his fist down. The damaged mid-section shattered and the computer became immobile. Austen stood as the victor.
"Make that very good," Takeshi said, taking back his first comment on the candidate.
The entire team was impressed. Austin was only the fourth person to actually beat the computer and he did it with some impressive skill.
Mark got up to help him out of the simulator and he and Austin walked back into the viewing room. Mark took his seat with the rest of the team and Austin sat down in front of them again. The team (mainly the Satomi pilots) asked him a few more questions and the his try-out was finished.
"Thank you for trying out," Miss Satomi said checking his name off the clipboard. " Come back tomorrow, and we'll tell you if you made it on the team or not."
"Very well, I'll be seeing ya" he said as he got up and took his leave.
They finished the final two candidates and were now going over the fifty pilots. Their blueprints, battles against the computer, and everything. But the only one they really had on their candidates were the ones who beat the simulation computer. It was about approaching Two A.M. after they finished reviewing.,
" So who do you think would be best to be our fourth pilot," Miss Satomi asked.
"We think it should Austin," Takeshi said speaking for the three pilots. He then took a moment to rub his eyes, so he could get the drowsiness out of them. " He showed some pretty good skills."
"And he beat Rocket-G," Andrei said.
"Not to mention his mech was pretty good," Mark added. For the next eight minutes the team was showing how great an addition Austin would be for the team.
"Okay," Miss Satomi yawned. She had heard enough stuff about the kid for one night. " Then it's decided. I guess Austin Davidson is out new pilot. Go home and gets some sleep. We'll meet again tomorrow to announce the winner."
Austin awoke in his either new, or temporary home that he rented in Japan. It was an apartment with three rooms, a living room, kitchen, and a bathroom. Whether it would be temporary or not all depended on if he made the cut for Team Satomi. He got up off of his futon couch( most of his stuff hadn't come in from America yet, including his bed) and took a shower, and then had breakfast. He then went back to the Satomi headquarters. It appeared to be that he was the first one there out of all the candidates. So he went to one of the benches and took out his MP3 player put the head phones in his ears. After an hour or two the rest of the candidates appeared. He looked up at the clock on the wall and noticed the time was approaching for the announcement of the new pilot, so he took his head phones out and kept his ears sharp, so that he could hear through the chatter.
The intercom finally came and everyone in the hall became quiet.
"First of all, to all the candidates. Thank you for trying out for this position. It means much for the team." Miss Satomi's voice said through the speakers. "The winner is Austin Davidson."
Austin gave small smile, it would be the only celebration for his success. He wasn't really the type to get all jumpy like that. He watched as the rest of the candidates left the building after. A few minutes later Team Satomi came down to congratulate him.
"Welcome, to the team kid," Miss Satomi said.
"Thanks," he said, shaking her hand. Austin was fortunate to even try out for the team. His brother was an IGPX pilot, he had wanted to be one as well but parents said he wasn't old enough. That was three years ago. He was now fourteen, and he finally convinced them to let him try out. He was already three grades ahead of his class, so his parents didn't worry about his education.
"Well come up-stairs and celebrate with us," Andrei said handing him a drink. "Because after today, all the easiness vanishes."
Final word: There you go. My first chapter. I've kinda made this one a bit confusing. Tell me what problems there were in the story. And review please.
