THE EVIL WITHIN

A dark shadow
Creased over his features,
Tension alien to him
Suddenly etched on his handsome face.

He was provoked
Far enough, she knew,
And was like a hurt, cornered animal
Planning his vengeful attack.

For she saw the amber flame ignited
In his temperate purple eyes,
The color and anger
Consuming his soul...

And in a dreaded second
The man she loved vanished;
In an instant he became the monster
She feared to behold.

And she tried holding on to him,
Just for a moment longer --
But he took a decisive step forward,
Sealing his fate.

So in all helplessness
She stood back, and watched him
Walk away... knowing full well
There was no turning back.
