Fear from a foolish boss
Coming out of his house in a T-shirt and bike shorts, Michael sits down on a granite step, with a bowl of Frosted Flakes in his hands. He just took his morning jog, and he is covered in sweat. Michael smells too, but he decides to take a shower after breakfast. Jogging around the neighborhood makes him very hungry. He dips his spoon inside his bowl and pulls it out. The spoon is now filled with 2% Reduced Fat milk and sugar coated corn flakes. Michael sticks the spoon in his mouth. He takes the spoon out and chews. YUM. It's such a beautiful day, and Michael can't wait to go to the pool party. He misses Ryan soo much! And Kelly, of course, and everyone else...
Suddenly, Michael's cell phone plays a Taylor Swift song.
An image of Ryan pops through Michael's head, and the man gets excited. He quickly places his cereal bowl down next to him, and reaches for his pocket. Although, Michael's pockets are empty... the cell phone must be inside the house!
"I'm coming, Ryan!" Michael scrambles up on his feet and dashes back in the house. Taylor keeps singing about a love story in the kitchen... Michael races into the bright room. He left his phone on top of the counter.
He picks up his cell phone and realizes the caller is not Ryan, but Dwight. Damn it!
"Yeah?" Michael answers, harshly.
"Hey!" Dwight greets loudly and happily. He makes Michael pull his phone a few inches away from his ear.
"Dwight, why are you shouting at me? What do you want?" Michael says in a whine-ish tone.
"Are you still going to Kelly and Ryan's pool party, this afternoon?" Dwight wants to make sure.
Michael scowls, "Of course I'm going! I wouldn't miss a party for the world!"
"Wasn't last night awesome?" Dwight immediately changes the subject.
"What did we do again?"
"That's what she said!" Dwight laughs.
Michael rolls his eyes and sighs unpaitently. He demands Dwight what they did last night...
"Don't you remember? You, Andy, Kevin and I watched Jaws last night, at Dunder Mifflin! We were having ourselves a Friday Night Fright, remember Michael?"
Of course he remembers, he was scared out of his wits whenever the killer shark rose up in the screen and tried to eat its' victims... who could forget?
"Oh yeah... really awesome..." Michael says, uneasily.
"I think, for next week, we should watch Jaws II! I heard that one was the best out of all of them, plus--I haven't seen it in ages!" Dwight continues.
"I'm not so sure about that," Michael says softly, but Dwight pays no attention to him, and just keeps rambling on...
"Isn't it ironic that we watched a horror movie about water and sharks, and then today we're going to a party that has a pool filled with water?!"
Michael's heart almost stops. The blood literally drains out from his face... he had no thought about that! Dwight is certainly right!
"Michael? You still there? Hello?" Dwight gets worried.
Michael swallows hard and clears his throat. "Yeah, I'm here," he chirps.
"What's the matter?" Dwight questions him. "You sound funny--you want me to come over and--"
"No, I'm perfectly fine, Dwight! There's nothing wrong with me!" Michael snaps. He notices the hand that's holding his cell phone is shaking. He covers his other hand with the shaky one, to keep it still... he'll never let Kevin pick out a scary movie again!
"Listen Dwight, I have to let you go--I'll see you at the party," he informs.
Dwight makes a sound on the other line. "Are you sure you don't need me to come over?"
Michael takes his phone out from his ear and hangs up. He leaves Dwight miles away, calling out his name on a dead line. Michael, feeling a deep pit in his stomach, lifts an arm and takes a whiff of his armpit. He smells awful, but all well. He can skip the shower... there's no way he'll go upstairs and fill the bathtub... not after what Dwight said about, water and sharks. Fear totally takes control over the foolish boss.
