Those Who Can See: A Ghost Whisperer Fanfic

Disclaimer: I don’t own anything of Ghost Whisperer, or of Final Fantasy 7 (you’ll see what I mean.)

Chapter One: She Who Comes

Melinda Gordon

I sat in complete darkness, scared for my life. “Jim?” I asked into the darkness. “Jim??” I yelled again; still no response. Then, a bright light appeared. A young woman appeared in front of me. She smiled and put her hand out towards me. She said, “Don’t worry, you don’t have to be afraid. Take my hand.”

After a minute, I reached for her hand. She smiled and withdrew it. “Not now.” she responded to my confused face. “Take my hand later; but you’ll have to trust me, okay?”

I woke up quickly after the last sentence. I looked around for the girl but found only Jim, who was wide awake and reading a book. I looked at my alarm clock. It was 5:30 in the morning. I turned back to Jim and smiled. He smiled back and said, “Hey, Mel. Good morning.”

“Good morning.” I said, jumping out of bed to get ready for work at Same As It Never Was Antiques. Jim also got out of bed and put his arms around my waist. He kissed me on the cheek.

“You’re ever so lively this morning.” he said, smiling, “did you have a good dream?”

I smiled, “Of a sorts. I know im going to meet someone soon.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? Who?”

“That’s the fun part; I don’t know yet, but I will know her once I see her again.” I smiled. Jim nodded, and the rest of the morning was spent in meaningless chatter between him and I. Then, we set out for work.

I opened the door of my store to find Delia already on shift and working with two customers. “Oh! Good morning, Delia!” I said, smiling.

“Oh, Melinda! I’m glad to see you.” she said, smiling at the customers she was working with. “This young lady wants to talk to you.”

The two turned around to look at me. One of them was a girl, a teenager with a tanned skin tone, blue eyes and brown hair, and the boy was of a paler looking skin tone with blue eyes and blonde hair. I smiled at both, realizing that the girl was the one from my dream. “Hello! I’m Melinda. What’s your name?”

The young girl looked at me sweetly and smiled. “Good morning, Mrs. Gordon. My name is Kara.”

I smiled. “Please to meet you.” My eyes went to the young boy next to her. “And who is this?”

Kara smiled and looked at the young boy. “Told you; I win.”

I looked at her with a puzzled look. “What did you win?”

She turned to Delia. “Ms. Delia, how many people are in this store right now?” she asked respectfully.

“Well,” she said, looking around. The only people who were in the store were us four. “There are three: you, me, and Melinda here.”

I looked at Delia, confused; then, understood: the blonde haired boy was a ghost, and this girl could see him. Nodding at the girl, I said, “Wont you come into the back? I think we need to discuss something.”

She smiled, “Of course.” she followed me to the back room.

“Okay, so who is this ghost?” I asked her.

“His real name is Donavan Smith, but he prefers to be called Cloud. You know, after the Final Fantasy character?” I shook my head. “well, he looks just like him.” (Note:” hence the disclaimer for the fact that I don’t own any Final Fantasy’s) “Anyways, I need your help. We both do.”

“You need help on crossing him over?” I asked.

“No,” she said, smiling at Cloud. “He wants to stay with me and he dosent see a light. No, we need to help you.”

“How?” I said, feeling a bit doubtful as I said it. The only way these two could help me is if they worked for the shop, which was somewhat unlikely because the girl looked well off and the boy was-well, a ghost.

My father,” she said seriously, “Wants to kill you and bring you to the other side of this battle.”

I stepped back from them, “Wait what? Are you… you here to help him?” I asked a bit fearfully; it would be a first for me to try to fight children and a ghost.

Relax, I’m not here to kill you. Quite the opposite.” She looked at Cloud. “Didn’t you give her that dream?”

Trust me, I got the dream.” I said, a little bit of impatience in my tone of voice. Then, I a vital question filled my mind. “Wait, who… who is your father?”

She seemed to hurt a bit as she heard the question. Finally, she stepped back from me-as if to guard herself- and Cloud came in front of her as she stated her fathers name.

Gabriel. Gabriel Gordon is my father. I…. I’m your niece.”
