Everything can change’ Yes, a quote I’ve heard various times. But, is change for the better or, or for the worst? I don't understand this world. It pulls me in so many different, life-altering directions. I swear, sometimes I just wanna hit life with a steel bat…

"Nicole! Nicole!"
A raspy voice called from the hallway, outside a room. Nicole lifted her head, her aquamarine eyes shining dimly in the light, her brown-ish black hair slightly covering her right eye. Her creamy ivory skin was darker then it should've been, but only because she hadn't taken a bath. No one had. She lifted herself off the wooden floor of the small bedroom of which 30 other kids slept in. She was in her 'Pajamas' if they could even be called that. They were old and dirty and cheap and didn't keep her warm at night, but hey. They covered her up and that was good enough for her. She walked over to the door and opened it, her head tilted slightly. Standing in front of it was a small, plump lady, with short, curly brownish-red hair that made it to her shoulders.
She was better dressed then everyone in the room; a light green dress with creamy frills on the bottom and on the sleeves edge. She was wearing a lot of makeup, mostly red. And her mascara was piled on so much that it looked permanent. Her name was Miss. Filch, the owner of the 'Filgo Orphanage'
"Stop cocking your head. For god's sake you look like a damn dog."
She snapped, making Nicole fix her head in an instant, nodding once. Miss. Filch looked at her disapprovingly, and then knowledge flashed into Nicole's eyes and she curtsied. Miss. Filch snorted, shaking her head.
"Honestly Nicole, you should brush up on your manners. You're becoming very poor in grace. Not that you ever had any, but still. You're in my orphanage, so I expect you to behave. Understand?"
Nicole nodded, standing up straight.
"Yes ma'am."
She said and Filch nodded.
"Good. Because you are going away for a little while."
She said and Nicole looked at her, confused.
"Away?"
She asked and Filch nodded.
"Yes. The government came today, saying that they are going to take all of you on the 'Train'"
She said and all of the kids gasped, including Nicole. The train had seen to be passing them by all these years, and now it's finally decided to take them out of this war-torn London.
"Hurry up and pack all of you. You all get the hell out of my orphanage tomorrow at the crack of dawn."
Filch said and then exited the room. All of the children looked at each other for a second and a half before they all screamed happily, jumping up and down in excitement. They packed their things quickly, seeing as they didn't really have anything. Before they knew it, it was time to go to bed. Nicole lay on the floor, as usual, letting the smaller children have the bed. It was midnight and Nicole woke up abruptly, covered in a sheet of sweat, her breathing uneven. She had a nightmare obviously. She placed her hand on her burning hot forehead, shaking her head, trying to erase the dream from her mind.
"Are you okay, Nicole?"
Someone whispered to her and she nodded to the small child.
"Yeah. Get some sleep, we have a big day tomorrow."
She said and the little girl smiled, nodded and then went back to sleep. Nicole looked up at the ceiling for a brief second before yawning and falling back asleep.

"Get up, get up Nicole!"
A voice shouted, shaking her. Nicole woke up and looked at the girl and then remembered.
"Oh."
She said and then leapt off the floor. Everyone else was already gone. She looked over at the young girl as she started to put on a 'clean' shirt and pants.
"Why didn't anyone wake me up?"
She asked and the little girl shrugged.
"They didn't want to be late."
She said and Nicole rolled her eyes and put on a good coat, one with the buttons still intact and then looked at the little girl. Her coat was one of the worst she'd seen; No buttons, there were some holes and it was very thin. There was this odd little pull, to give the girl the coat. Nicole blinked once and then took of the coat and handed it to the little girl.
"Here. It's much warmer than yours."
She said and the little girl beamed and took the coat and put it on. Nicole put on the little girl's coat and nodded.
"Right. Let's go."
She said and grabbed the little girl's hand and then ran out the orphanage. They hopped on the train and the little girl was taken to sit with the other little children, where Nicole was taken to sit with the older kids. She was 12 after all, so she was considered an adult to them. Nicole looked out the window, feeling the train start to move. She smiled and rested her head on the window.
'Things are finally changing...'
She thought as she watched the sun come up over the horizon.

The smell of smoke and fire filled the air, the wind so fierce that the trees were on the verge of tipping over. The air was cold, but then again, what would except in a blizzard? The wind whipped around the young girl, the snow biting her face with icy cold kisses. Her aquamarine eyes scanned the area, pushing her feet through the snow. She was wearing a blue jacket, a little too thin for such a day, and her green scarf was on the edge of being torn off her face. She didn't have any gloves, and her teeth were chattering lightly. Who was this girl you ask? Why, it was Nicole of course. She looked around, she was in the middle of nowhere. She turned her head around, stared at the broken bridge a few feet behind her and sighed, turned her head back around and continued to walk. Today had begun just like any other day...well no. Not really. She was on the god damned train! They were on the verge of leaving this forsaken place. But no. She had noticed something was wrong when the train started shaking. She tried to warn them, the kids, the conductor, but they wouldn't listen.
And then, right when they were about to cross the bridge, the siren shot through the air just like a knife cuts through soft butter. Easily. Then, there was a loud and thunderous 'boom!' and then nothing but black smoke. And then, there was a screeching sound. All of the kids pressed their faces to the glass, to try and get a better look, and then they screamed. The bridge had been hit by a bomb, and now it was sliding off the edge. They started to scream and ran around in circles. Nicole looked at them, trying to tell them what to do, but they just wouldn't listen. And then she thought about the little girl, and she was about to cry. The little girl was two carts ahead of her...already gone. She growled in annoyance and then smashed the window, making the glass shatter. She squeezed through, just before the cart slid over the edge. She watched, with growing dread, as the train went over the edge, the children never did stop screaming. That is, until the train fell to the bottom and it exploded.
So, that's why she was here. Walking alone through a blizzard. She shook her head as her feet lightly crunched.
"So much for everything would change."
She growled and she continued to walk, ignoring her chattering teeth.

After another five minutes of treading through snow, shivering and taking little back roads, she stopped. Her head tilted and she looked at the little town in front of her. She looked around and then at the town.
"A town in the middle of nowhere. Huh. I see a lot of horror movies, and the hidden towns are always the worst. But...I don't think this one qualifies."
She muttered, her eyes sparkling lightly. The town was...well it looked very fancy. The paths were made of stones and the houses were more like mansions. They probably were. It looked slightly deserted, except for the husband and wife walking down the sidewalk, as if the blizzard wasn't there. They turned to look over at Nicole, who was still in the forest part of the town, and the wife whispered something in his ear. The man looked over at his wife, raising an eyebrow, but then smirked and nodded. He turned to the spot where Nicole was.
"You there. Girl. Come here."
He said and Nicole looked from side to side and then up and down before facing him.
"Me?"
She mouthed, her finger at her chest. The man nodded and waved her over. She was still for half a second and then walked over.
"Yes, sir?"
She asked, adding the 'sir' out of habit. The man and woman smiled, they seemed to like that.
"Well, it's awfully cold today, and I'd hate to see a young lady such as yourself wander around alone."
He explained, making her head tilt. The woman smiled.
"What my husband means, is that we would like to take you in our home, so you won't be cold."
She said and Nicole blinked once and then straightened her head, but her eyes still glinted with confusion. The man and woman smiled.
"Come."
They said and then started walking away. Nicole hesitated. She knew that they weren't just being nice. They wanted something in return. She thought for a brief second and then walked with them, it felt like something was pulling her, telling her to go. But then again, something 'pulled' her to go on the damn train that exploded. Something 'pulled' her to give the only warm coat to a little girl that is dead. She had been 'pulled' in so many retarded directions that she just wanted to hit life with a steel bat. She thought for another second and then groaned, following them. They walked for a short while, and then stopped in front of a possible mansion. It was tall and wide, and it was a grayish-whitish color. The man opened the door easily, quickly, and then he and the wife wandered inside. Nicole walked in after them, looking around their huge house. The floors were of marble and the stairs of cherry wood. She was right. It was a mansion. She heard the door close and she snapped out of it, turning to face them.
"There. Much better, is it not?"
The man asked and she nodded, waiting for the catch. Then, the man and the woman looked at each other and smirked, nodded and turned back to Nicole.
"Um, what is your name, dear?"
The man asked.
"Nicole. Just Nicole."
She said. She didn't know who her parents were, all she knew was that they died, so she couldn't have a last name. That made their smirks grow wider.
"So, would you like to stay here?"
The wife asked, her voice kind and gentle. Again, that stupid 'pull' was telling Nicole to stay, and she sighed, choosing not to fight it.
"Sure."
She said and they beamed.
"Good...but on one condition."
'Here we go...'
She thought, but nodded.
"You can stay...but you must work as our maid."
They said and Nicole looked at them for a brief second and then nodded. They smirked.
"Alright, it's settled then. You start at the crack of dawn."
The man said, but the woman shook her head and he understood.
"Actually, the living room needs to be cleaned, does it not? Here, give it a good clean."
He said, handing her a mop, and she nodded.
"Alright. Well, we're going to bed. See you in the morning. And make sure this place is spotless."
The wife said and then her and her husband walked up the stairs, and Nicole heard the light 'slam' as the door closed behind them. Nicole got the mop and started to clean the huge living room. And then, she got a sponge and got down on her knees and started scrubbing the stained-on floor. She was muttering things that couldn't be heard because it was so low. But, she was actually cussing herself out for having listened and agreed to this. Suddenly, there were light, almost faint footsteps and the girl lifted her head, and then smiled. Standing in front of her was a small, pocket-sized calico kitten. But, instead of her eyes being brown, they were a misty green color. She meowed and then walked over to Nicole, purring. Nicole smiled and pet it gently, making it purr louder. She picked it up gently, and it fit in the palm of her hand.
"You're small, aren't you?"
She asked and the cat meowed and rubbed up against her face. Nicole giggled lightly.
"I hope you won't wind up like Clifford and then grow bigger then this mansion."
She said and the cat’s eyes sparkled lightly and then it laughed. It was a cat laugh, but it was a laugh nonetheless. Nicole smiled.
“Come. You can sleep with me tonight.”
She offered and the cat nodded it’s small head. Nicole smiled and then they went to sleep, in the attic.

"Nicole! Nicole wake up!"
Mrs. Burd called from downstairs. Nicole yawned and then woke up quickly, running down the stairs, Spice perched on her shoulder like a bird. That cat hadn’t grown at all.
"Hurry and start cleaning. We have guests coming over."
It has been three months since she first came here, and she has learned quite quickly. She cleans from early morning till after dark, and now she wears a uniform. Like the maid ones you see in movies. Though, instead of it being black, it’s a pale gold color. They had told her she could keep the cat, and so she named her Spice. Well, it was sorta like being adopted. Except her parents didn’t care about her. Nicole quickly slipped into her uniform and started cleaning, Spice sitting on one of the steps on the stair case. Night came by quickly, and they did have visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Twink came over and promoted Mr. Burd as head of their company. It was glorious, what they had wine and a huge feast, all of which Nicole had to cook. When the day was over, Nicole and Spice walked into the attic as usual, and Nicole fell quickly asleep.

"Aah!"
Nicole gasped, quickly lifting herself up from the bed, her breathing uneven, covered in a thin sheet of sweat. Spice meowed lightly and walked next to Nicole, rubbing her head against her arm affectionately. Nicole smiled and pet her cat gently and looked around. It was only a nightmare, nothing more. She walked around for a while, for some reason not being able to fall back asleep. After another few seconds, she groaned in annoyance and then laid back down in her bed, deciding to try and sleep. When she was just about to slip into unconsciousness, a loud, frightened scream pierced through the midnight air. She quickly got up and ran to her window, peering outside. She saw it now; a grown man was pulling a young girl out of her house while the girl had tears streaking down her face. Why wasn't anyone helping her? Didn’t they care? Acting on impulse, Nicole was suddenly in a burst of action. She had gone to bed with regular clothes, seeing as her 'pajamas' were not warm enough. She was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt and a jean skirt with white stockings. She slipped into her white boots with sky blue laces and then bounded out the front door.
"Hey!"
She called to the mysterious man in the red coat. He turned around, looking at her with curious eyes.
"And you are?"
He asked, un-amused and slightly uninterested. She blinked. Did…did he have a hook for a hand? She glanced at the girl that was being kidnapped and blinked. “Margaret…”
Nicole narrowed her eyes.
"I don't believe that's any of your business. Now, let go of her!"
Nicole ordered and the man looked at her and began laughing, others coming out from above them. Suddenly, men came down from the roof, two of them quickly grabbing Nicole's arms and pulling them behind her back.
"Let me go!"
She growled, struggling against their iron grip. It was no use. Nicole looked at Margaret and then at the man. He understood and let the other girl go, and she ran down the street, terrified. Nicole tore her gaze from the girl to look at the man's face. He curled his mustache with his hook-hand and smirked.
"Hm...I was going to take the girl...but perhaps not."
He said, his smirk growing wider.
"She'll do."
He said at last. Nicole growled. “What do you mean ‘I’ll do’?!”
She growled, kicking the air. Hook smiled. “Huh, you’re spunky.” He said in amusement and before Nicole could say anything, she was gagged and placed into a bag. Nicole struggled, trying to break free but it was no use. Hook started walking but then it was like he had slammed into the air, because his whole body rattled.
"Mr. Smee!"
The man called and Mr. Smee came out.
"Yes captain?"
"Hurry up and bring the girl here. We don't have time for this."
He snarled and Smee nodded and flung Nicole over his shoulder and then threw her onto the ship, which was sitting in the middle of the street. It had been invisible. A siren shot through the sky and the ship took off, weaving through buildings and such and such. They had gotten better at the maneuvering thing. Nicole continued to fidget, but it was no use. Crap. What had she gotten herself into? Hook laughed a proud laugh and then they went higher into the sky. To the second star to the right. To NeverLand.
