Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Calibur or its character's. I also don't own the weapons or the techniques used this story either. This is a work of fiction, any names that appear, alive or dead, is of pure coincidence.

Before word: I've finally finshed with this chapter story. After several months of typing.

Our story starts with our hero, Xavier. A rogue warrior. He was dressed in a blue sleeveless, blue pants, and a green traveling cloak with a hood. He had brown hair down to his shoulders, green eyes, a slight tan, and was partially scarred. He wasn't known very well in the world but he was working his reputation up as warrior.

Sadly things weren't going well for him. It had been two days since he had even had a bite to eat, and he had no gold. All he had was a bolt of linen that he used for bandages, his warhorse named Raid, and his trusty war hammer, which it’s creator dubbed Xavius (he normally named the weapons after the people he’d make the for), and a empty pack and money bag. He was riding towards the town square when he noticed a flier for a fighting tournament and first place winner would receive 1000 gold second place 500. He decided to enter the tournament went left towards area where the stadium was at.

The stadium as huge. Plenty of room to swing to swing his hammer and to dodge attacks from other weapons. He knew he would have a good advantage in this arena so he registered and then went to where they told him to go. He was in the waiting room looking for a seat to rest. As he was looking, he was observing the other warriors there. They were mainly resting up or sharpening their weapons that they had. Most of these warriors looked new. Not ragged or scarred like most veteran warriors that he normally saw, their weapon where close to, if not, mediocre. While he was observing these people he bumped shoulder to an unknown person who was walking by him.

"Oh, pardon me" he said with a bow.

"No problem," a feminine voice said. Xavier looked up to see who the girl was. She was dressed in a red outfit with a green trim. (A/N. It's the SC3 outfit.) She had her long brown hair in a tail to her lower back, brown eyes, and a red headband with a green trim as well. In her right hand was a zanbatou, the pole was mainly a scarlet red, it had four gold rings before the long blade at the top, the bottom of it was blue with a small spike a the bottom for traction. He knew that this girl was good and would probably be his biggest threat in the tournament today. Despite not having the same marks as most veteran warriors that he had seen, there was something about her that made her look like a seasoned warrior.

"Names Xavier, yours," he asked.

"Seong Mina, people call me Mina for short," she said. As she said this Xavier's head began to throb enormously, this made him loose control of his body and he fell forward. Mina reflexively caught him. After he regained his senses he told Mina he was alright so she could let go. He unstrapped his warhammer and leaned on for support.

"You alright kid," Mina asked.

"Yeah, it's just hard to stand, not having eaten anything for two days can do that to you," he said.

"Come over to my spot you can rest up there," she said. They walked to Mina's seat and she grabbed her pack to clear a seat for Xavier, she dug in there for a couple of seconds and then pulled a sack reached in a gave him a handful of jerky. He took it, thanked her, and ate it gratefully. While he was eating Mina spoke up.

"Your not around here are you," she said. Xavier finished eating and then gave a small laugh.

"I should be saying the same thing to you now should I," he said, "But yeah, I'm from Russia, you?"

"Korea," she said.

"So what are you doing in a place like this," he asked.

Mina took a sigh and then said "For one I'm part of a huge dynasty in Korea called the Seong dynasty, I'm looking for one of my students who I train at my fathers dojo," she said " he ran off a couple of months ago."

"Why did your student run off for?"

"I gave him one of my family heirloom, a sword name White Storm, it supposedly can reveal what the wielder's innermost thoughts are, after I gave him it he ran off," she sighed, " Since I gave him the sword it's my responsibility to drag him back to the dojo."

"What would he be doing in a town like this other than this tournement," Xavier asked.

"He's looking for a legendary sword called Soul Edge, he probably found some information about it in this town," she responded.

"If I were him, I'd give up finding Soul Edge, I've tried searching for that thing for the first two years after I left home and started traveling," he replied. He knew that Mina wasn't here to talk about Soul Edge so he tried to change the subject. " Nice Zanbatou you have there."

"Oh this thing, thanks, you have a nice warhammer as well," she said pointing to it's shaft, which was leaning against Xaviers leg, "May I see it?"

"Sure," he said handing it to her. It truly was a magnificent weapon. The metal shaft and the block style head were silver with black runes along the shaft. The sight wasn't the only thing amazing about it. It had gone through countless battles, the shaft never denting or showing any rust either. And it was probably Xavier's most cherished item he had. She studied it for a few minutes and handed it back.

"Well may the best man win," Mina said getting up and holding her hand out.

"Same," he said, shaking her hand. With that Xavier got up and went to look for a spot for him to rest.

Mina and Xavier blew past the competition and came into the final round. They stepped out into the arena for the final round. When the bell rang they began their fight.

Their shafts locked, trying to send one another backwards. Mina quickly stepped back and kicked Xavier in the stomach. She then took her blade and drove it into his left shoulder.

With blood pumping out of his shoulder, Xavier began to think. He knew that he wouldn't be able to get any attacks in if she wasn't stunned, he brought his right hand up and punched her in the stomach. In response to this though Mina hit Xavier in the chin with her shaft, in result both of them were stunned.

After they recovered they locked once more. This time, Xavier was successful and sent her weapon to the right, he then swung his hammer at her legs.

Mina was smarter than that. She jumped, but while she was in mid-air Xavier grabbed her and threw her a good six feet. She tumbled to the ground losing grip on her Zanbatou. Xavier then charged towards her and grabbed her weapon out of her hands and threw out of her reach. While he was doing this Mina recovered and grabbed Xavier's warhammer. Before he could do anything about it she then used it to flip behind him and held the shaft up to his neck.

Xavier then threw his head back and hit Mina square in the face, stunning her. He then threw her over his shoulder landing hard on the ground. He then brought his hammer down. Mina rolled to the right as his hammer made a small crater in the arena floor. She then sweep kicked him, making him lose his balance and fall to the ground. He also lost grip on his Warhammer.

Mina then got up and went after her zanbatou, but as she began to run Xavier grabbed her ankle and pulled her back and then got up as well.

They were now both unarmed, the weapon they had were their hands and feet.

Mina ran up and attempted to kick his rib cage. Xavier caught her foot and threw her to the right. Mina recovered and instead of attacking her opponent she decided to study him. His strength was enormous for his age ,despite being in his mid teens. But he wasn't as big on technique but instead used his strength. She realized a head on attack wouldn't work. Mina charged forward. Xavier prepared to counter but Mina rolled past a kicked him in the back of his knee.

Xavier fell to the ground on his back as Mina ran to get her zanbatou. Xavier quickly got up and went to his warhammer as well. As they they clashed again Mina kicked him in the stomach, once again stunning him. Her blade on her zanbatou began to glow a greenish-blue. Xavier just barely rolled to the right when she brought her weapon down.

It, literally, cut the air and left a huge slash in the ground. Xavier thanked what luck he had that he avoided the attack. He would have been slashed in half.

"Soul Charge," he said.

"What," Mina panted, she was slightly tired from that huge attack she unleashed.

"A Soul Charge, you gather your Chi into your weapon, and then attack with it, doing a huge amounts of damage and sometimes killing people. I have to ask did you learn it by a person named Edge Mater?"

"Yeah, why?"

"No reason. It's just that I found a scroll written by him about a year back, I learned this move from it." He then charged for Mina. Mina charged as well, but Xavier stopped his charge, grabbed Mina, and slammed her into the ground. " Let me show my attack now." His weapon then began to to glow with the same aura that Mina weapon did.

Mina swore. A warhammer could do massive damage, armor had little to no resistance to a weapon like that, and the only thing she was wearing was cloth. She then realized as she was thinking this that Xavier needed more time to charge his attack. She grabbed her Zanbatou, and rolled backwards as he brought his weapon down.

It had made a three foot crater in the ground, Mina stared in shock. Xavier though, was drained horribly. Sweat covered his forehead, he was breathing heavily, and was swaying slightly.

"Looks like that attack made you tired," Mina said as she charged towards him. She attempted to kick him in the head but she was surprised to see Xavier grab her leg and throw her to the ground! He then brought his fist down and struck her right shoulder. Mina yelled in pain for a second before she regained her senses and kicked him in the stomach. While he was stunned Mina checked her right arm. Xavier didn't seem to break anything, but her joint at her shoulder seemed to be dislocated. She wouldn't have a good chance to pop it back into place during a battle, which meant she was fighting with one arm now.

Xavier laughed. "Well, it looks both of us are running out of steam," he said. He was right. His arms were beginning to tremble slightly. Not to mention the gash on his left arm as well. Mina too, had taken a couple blows as well, being thrown to the ground, and now her right shoulder was dislocated. "But, something tells me that this battle is still going to last a while.

"Says you," she countered.

"We'll just have to find out then," Xavier said with a smirk on his face. He then readied his weapon. "Shall we?"

"I guess so." With that they charged once again.

Mina jabbed her zanbatou forward. Xavier dodged to the right, grabbed the her weapon, and yanked it out of her hands. Mina then ran toward him and kicked in the rib cage. It ,sadly, didn't stun him anywhere near as long as she wanted the kick to do. With one hand he swung her zanbatou at her, the swing it barely missed her waist. He then followed up with a downward swing from his warhammer, which she dodged as well. Mina then ran forward and grabbed her zanbatou and took her weapon back. Xavier then grabbed her and slammed her to the ground.

While she was on the ground she swung her weapon at his ankles. Xavier dodged and retreated back a few feat. Mina then recovered and charged forward. She gave a kick, that he blocked, and then hit him with the flat of her blade, stunning him. Mina was about to bash him in head with her shaft only to see it lock with his once again, with only one arm she was overwhelmed by the young warriors strength, and she fell to the floor.

"Well," she said as Xavier had the head of his hammer pointed at her. She then kicked him in the stomach which caused him to crumple to the ground. She didn't stop their, she then lightly hit him on the back of the neck with the shaft of her weapon, which caused him to black out temporarily. "Your not bad, but you can't beat me yet though."

Xavier gained his senses and was helped up by Mina. He and Mina shook hands happily and thanked each other for the great battle. The crowd was also happy for the battle as they were applauding loudly.

"How's your shoulder," Mina asked.

"What this," he said, putting his hand on his bloody shoulder. "It's fine, I'll get it bandaged up after this tournament . How's your injury?"

"It's there," she laughed.

"Turn around please and I can get that fixed up," he said.

Mina did just that and a few moment later Xavier popped it back into place and brought splashes of colors into Mina's eyes.

"Damn," she said as she rubbed her sore shoulder. "You did a number on me."

"Right back at you," he said as the man in charge of the tournament handed them their sacks of gold.

"So were are you off to after this," he asked as he and Mina walked out of the arena.

Mina shrugged. "Who knows. The trail went cold when I got to this town."

"So how about we travel together," he suggested. "It'll be nice to have some company."

"Yeah it would be too, why not" she said. They then went down to the market for some supplies.

It was now approaching dusk and Mina and Xavier were around a camp fire as haunch of venison was slowly turning over the fire. Xavier and Mina were eating their pieces of meat as they watched the other piece of meat cook. It turned out Xavier wasn't the only one suffering from starvation. Mina had been eating sparingly, changing her diet to only one meal a day. The jerky she gave him earlier was the last of her food.

"Man it's been a while since I've had something this good," Xavier said with grease dripping from his chin.

"Yeah, starvation can do that to you," she laughed as she took a bite of meat as well.

"So how long have you been on the road," he asked.

"Including the times I've been dragged back from my father," she said. " Five years, since I was eighteen. How about you?"

"I've been traveling the world for three years since I was fourteen. I then bought Raid from a farmer, and found this magnificent thing of a weapon." He then pointed to his weapon that was leaning against the log that he was sitting on.

"So why did you pursue Soul Edge," she asked.

Xavier's face turned sour. He wasn't expecting that question from her. But none the less she was his companion and she deserved the right to know.

"My father left to pursued Soul Edge six years ago just after I turned eleven. Two years later he returned claiming to find it and destroyed it. But, his wounds were still infected and had never healed, he said he got them from the evil spirit who wield Soul Edge and used the very sword to injure him. Even when I left, his injuries were as new as the day he had returned. So the first two years I traveled I tried to find Soul Edge and permanently destroy it. But, to no avail, I couldn't find it. So, I gave up on my search and started spreading my reputation as a warrior."

"Your just not looking in the right place is all," Mina said simply. "Trust me, I've encountered Soul Edge countless times. Just stick with me, you'll find it probably."

"I'll take your word for it," he said. They finished eating their meals and went to sleep looking forward to the upcoming events and battles in their quest for Soul Edge
