Disclaimer: I do not own Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, 10 Things I Hate About You, or Batman Beyond.
The transport arrived and I looked around it was early morning in Gotham. This was the first time in almost six years that I had seen a smoggy Gotham morning. I looked around to see if dad had sent Terry. We had yet to tell him that Terry was his biological son and in a way Terry and I thought it best to keep it quiet for a little while longer. I didn’t see my big brother which I had only known for a short time but loved him as if I had known him as my brother for my whole life.
I walked to the street and quietly hailed a cab and took it to Wayne manor. I hadn’t been here since I had run away well over six years ago when I found out that dad had arranged a marriage for me. I walked up the stairs and said, “Daddy where are you?” “Elizabeth is that you?” An old man leaning heavily on his cane asked. “Yes Daddy it’s me I’m home. Ready to face the music.”
“You are ready to take over the family business then?” “Of course daddy. O and I did what you suggested and gave Mr. Holmes the journals.” “Good. They rightfully belong to him anyways.” “Yes daddy. Mom always said that the journals were a family heirloom and that we were going to hold onto them until he came back to life. Hard to believe Selena Kyle was a descendent of George Lestrade.” “As are you.” “I know daddy. So where is Harry.” “He will be here in time for the wedding. I’m sorry about this Beth but it is best for the company.” “I know daddy.” I looked at him and saw a strange sparkle of mischief in his eye that quickly disappeared.
I sighed and said, “I think I’m going to lie down the jet lag is starting to catch up to me.’ I headed for the stairs and walked up and turned to the left towards my rooms. As I turned I thought I heard my dad saying to someone phase 2 complete. I shook my head and wondered what the old man was up to but to tired and too upset to really care at the moment.
I walked out the next morning and went down the stairs and stopped short. “Daddy who’s this?” “This dear is John Smith he is going to help with the wedding plans.” I looked at John and said, “Good morning Mr. Smith.” “Good morning Miss Wayne. When would you like to start the planning?” “After I eat a little breakfast Mr. Smith care to join me.” “No thank you I have already eaten.” I smiled and walked to the kitchen and sighed as I poured myself a bowl of cereal.
A short while later we were in my fathers study and Mr. Smith and I were mid argument. It felt good to argue with someone who wasn’t acting like a smart alike jerk like Holmes. Of course don’t get me wrong I would always love Holmes but what’s the old saying fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Well I had been fooled more then once by Holmes and I had tired of it.
Mr. Smith smiled at me and said, “Miss Wayne I shall make an appointment at the dressmakers shop and will get back to you.” I looked at Mr. Smith’s long fingers and couldn’t help but think of Holmes again. I chuckled a moment and he looked at me and said, “Is there something funny Miss Wayne?” “Nothing, nothing at all.”
Mr. Smith left and I sighed and stretched and looked around. That had been long and tedious and it looked like it was going to be everything that I didn’t want it to be but perfect for the local society gossipmongers. I had just left the study when I overheard my dad say, “Phase 4 complete.” I raised an eyebrow and rolled my eyes I didn’t feel like talking to my dad and investigate into what he was up to but I knew I would have to put a stop to it and soon.
Authors Note: Ok so something is up in the Wayne household and Lestrade doesn’t know what yet. O and P.S. extra chapter posted if someone guesses who Mr. Smith is. The hint is in the chapter. O and thanks again for the review.
