Chapter 4

"Narcissa, you understand fully why I asked you to come, do you not," The Dark Lord asked her stroking the lengths of the snake sleeping across her shoulders.

"Y-yes sir, you wish to discuss the affairs of my sister Andromeda, correct," she answered, mustering all of her confidence and pride so she wouldn't crack, "As well as my mission to find her."

"You are a bright child, but still a child with much to learn," he said tilting his head back to see her better in the dark cold room, "Yet still a child, young and arrogant."

Narcissa winced at his words and stood tall, trying her best not to show her fear. The Dark Lord rose from the high backed chair he was sitting on brushing the large snake off of his shoulders. He walk towards Narcissa until he was only feet away.

"Narcissa, do you know where you sister is hiding?" he ask his voice cold and uncaring,"because you know what will happen to you if you do and you lie to me."

The dark lord stepped back, drew his wand from his belt and whispered a curse inaudible to Narcissa. Before she was able to comprehend what had happened he had entered her mind and began searching through the bits of her memory that held what had happened the previous day. He retreated from her mind when her memory showed him nothing of any interest.

"So neither you or Lucius have any idea," He said as he backed down and returned to his seat, "You're both very lucky for your ignorance, this time, but as I have seen, that meddlesome Dumbledore does know. I shall have Severus look in on that, for now you are relieved of your mission to find her, you can leave now."

She apparated directly out of the room and into her own bedroom. She could hear Severus and Lucius arguing in the hall, but took no notice. Instead she plopped straight onto the bed face down and let out a sigh of relief. She was able to escape his rath by merely forgetting most of the morning. Everything started coming back to her. Though she knew he would leave her be for the time, she pushed them all away and thought about everything good that had occured; not only had she found a home but she was engaged to the love of her life.

The sudden silence from the hall startled her. She stood up off her bed and opened her door. Lucius stood their alone, looking down at an envelope in his hands. He looked up to see Narcissa standing there.

"Oh, I hadn't realized you were back or I would have taking Severus down stairs to argue." he said standing up straight and putting the envelope in his back pocket.

"It's fine, what were you fighting about any way," Narcissa asked looking at Lucius in concern, "And what's in the envelope?"

"Oh, nothing, it's just a letter telling me that my reports are over due to the board of governers." He told her laughing, "They won't leave me alone until I turn them in."

Just then a house-elf appeared with a large trunk. "This arrived for the lady," the elf said in it's high pitched voice, it dropped the trunk in the entry of Narcissa's room before announcing that dinner would be ready in an hour.

Narcissa pulled the trunk into the center of the room and pulled the note off the top.

Dear Narcissa;

I took the liberty of sending your things. Severus came over not to long ago to tell me you were planning on living with Lucius. I assume you packed you things, because they were already together in the trunk when I went into you room.

With Love

Your Mother

Narcissa Opened the trunk, everything she owned was neatly placed in the trunk and ontop of the pile of clothes was a pawn shaped container, with at tag.

To Narcissa from Andie.

"Why a pawn?" Narcissa asked to nobody in general.

"Huh?" Lucius asked walking into the room to stand behind her.

"Oh Andie sent a message with my things in this," she explianed standing up and turning to face Lucius.

"Well she was trying to send a non-descriped measage so no one would know what it is," Lucius answered.

"Still, why a pawn?" ask Narcissa still more to herself then to Lucius.

Narcissa put the pawn on the dresser and began unpacking her tunk into the dresser. "You aren't even going to try to open it?" asked Lucius, "If it is a container that is."

"I'll try later, but it is a container," Narcissa answered finishing her unpacking, "Know why she used it, I just don't undersand the shape."

Narcissa moved in front of the mirror and began redoing her hair. "Why are you messing with your hair agian?" Lucius asked turning around to face her again.

"I hate my hair," Narcissa replied more to herself then to Lucius, "it never does what I want it to and when it does it looks horrible.""Your hair looks fine," Lucius said rather dryly, "Honestly I don't understand the fuss about hairstyles and clothes. If you're just going to sit around the house all day there really isn't much reason getting all dressed up."

Narcissa only rolled her eyes at the statement, she'd heared he say it too many times before. He continued fixing and re fixing her hair, ignoring Lucius's statements about sitting around.

Lucius turned quickly and walked to the window. Looking outside he could still see Narcissa in the glass. His attention was caught by dark figure moving quickly across the lawn, towards the door.

"Finish your hair quickly," Lucius said turning on his heels and walked quickly to the door, "The minister of magic is here."

Lucius hurried down the stairs in time to hear the knock on the door. He answered the door in more of a rush then he had planned to.

"Ah, Lucius. Good to see your home,"he said stepping through the door, "Actually, I was wondering if Narcissa was here as well? Her oldest sister said that she would be."

"Of course I'll go and get her now," Lucius said turning to return up stairs.

"Oh and you wouldn't mind joining us would you," asked the minister as he walked into the dining room.

"Of course not," Lucius said from the banister before walking back into Narcissa's room.

Not bothering to knock he opened the door into her room. Narcissa was excactly in the same place she was when he left. "What's going on?" Narcissa asked letting her hair fall undone on her shoulders.

"The Minister of Magic want to speak to you," Lucius said pacing the portion of the room in front of the door, "About what? I don' t know, but that was what the letter was. He seemed to nervious to be here to chat."

"Well then, lets go see what he wants, shall we?" Narcissa said shaking slightly, "It's probably something silly."

They walked out into the hall and down the stairs. Lucius could see Narcissa's fear clearly by the way she would rub her hands together. As they approached the dinning room he reached out and took one of her hands in his own.

Narcissa was grateful of his action, and squeezed his hand in appreciation. They entered the dinning room and sat down across from the Minister.

"Do you know why a came to speak with you Narcissa?" the Minister asked his voice shaking.

"No," Answered Narcissa, "Truly I don't"

"Really," he sighed looking down, "So you don't remember attempting to kill a muggle by the name of Annette Dole?"

"NO!" Narcissa squealed in surprise, "I met her years ago, but I haven't seen her since I started school at Hogwarts!"

"Your sister, Belatrix, told us other wise," The minister continued, "She also informed us that it was only a couple of days ago."

"She lied," Narcissa cried loosing her calm.

"Well we'll have to see about that," said the minister as he stood to leave, "Until we find the muggle and questions her, you will be under house arrest. NO going anywhere, not even out side. I'll have guards posted at all entrances and exits."

"But!" began Narcissa.

"I'm sorry my dear but I'll also need your wand," he told her, "Yours as well Lucius, we can't take any chances, now can we."

Narcissa handed the Minister her wand with her free hand. Lucius did the same, though not without a pause for him to look at the wand. Narcissa was speaachless, how on Earth could this have happened to her? She pulled her hand out of Lucius's and ran up stairs into her room locking the door behind her."

"Why is it always me!" She exclained to herself through her tears. As she spoke the glass pawn broke open on the dresser.

Narcissa starred at the broken container. Picking up the largest piece of the pawn, Narcissa found the note that it ws hiding. Pulling out the note she unlocked the door before sitting down at her desk. She could here Lucius approach, but she didn't take any notice of it. She began to read the neatly writen note.

Dear Cissy;

By now the Minister should have already left. Bella must be looking for revenge because we both left her. What ever you do don't leave Lucius's house! I'll come and get you when it's safe! I'll write again when this is all over.

Andromeda Black

Narcissa looked at the note blankly; leaving here would be idiotic. But some thing didn't seem right. She seemed calm when she was writing this, her handwritting was too neat to hav e been written while packing her things.

The door opend before she finished thinking. She didn't even notice Lucius was standing right behind her. "Are you going to be okay," Lucius asked her.

Narcissa turned around and looked up at him, she was half hoping that he would be there. "I don't know," She said shakily, "My worlds falling apart and there's nothing I can do to fix it."

Lucius nelt in front of her and took her hands, "Life isn't going to end," he told her, "We can and we will find a way to fix this, and things will turnout right."

Narcissa looked at him in disbelief. "Things will never go right, I know they won't they never do," she wispered and let her tears fall, "Eventually everyone leaves me on my own."

Lucius picked her up into his arms and held her tight, " I will never leave you, Never!" he told her, letter her cry into his shoulder.
