Sam felt like the boy with his finger in the dike, desperately staunching the blood flow before what mattered most was swept away in a sea of red.

Dean’s silence was distressing. No ‘chicks dig scars,’ raunchy escapades, Monty Python quotes. Only one word.

“Sa…mmy…” The rest went unsaid. Dean’s eyes spoke his heart more clearly than his lips ever could. A glimmer of regret, but brimming unconditional love for his brother- emotion so intense Sam had to look away, eyes watering, throat closing around his own words.

“If you’re gonna talk, I want dirty jokes, not a farewell soliloquy.”
