Okay, here's the craptacular second chapter. Once again, this fanfiction takes place in an Alternate Universe in which the Hoenn, Sinnoh and Orange Island regions do not exist. Therefore only Generations I and II Pokemon will be used. All major characters will be drawn by me and posted on my profile page at some point. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm sure you don't give a crap anyway.
Thank you for reading.
In the depth of a secluded forest on the outskirts of Fuchsia City, the grass pressed t'ward the earth strong and subtle; like that of gentle waves. As the moon's adoring gaze illuminated patches of meadow, a single figure began to swiftly rustle out the trees' sheltering limbs. The figure that moved silently from the brush was rigid and sharply angled: his dark silhouette softly outlined by Luna's kiss, a melancholic glow surrounding. His face, obscured by the blackness of night demeaned a mysterious burdening sorrow. His strides, though drudging and gingerly still had a shaking pride present in each and every advancement. He was a man of no name or face, a man who carried an unbearable lament; for this man of no name or face carried in his marred arms a slumbering infant wrapped in a bloody cloth, his intent only known to himself.
He at last entered Luna’s embrace although he remained a malevolent and grieving shadow, a hideous mark of sins from years ago. He stood silently like a stone guardian; kissing the tips of his right hand and tracing them along his child's round face. Following the soft pathway his baby’s features had given, those warm and calloused fingertips trailed over her tiny nose, ceasing to move once reaching her porcelain lips. He sank to one knee with head lowered, his arms lifting the small child toward the shining orb in the celestial sea… an offering to the gods above. Notus' breath swept clean and elegant, carrying the scarlet child into the sky.
I suppose my story began in Cherrygrove city, roughly fifteen years after The Grand Exile. Government ration provisions were at a minimal, since there was basically no economy and each town was left to fend for themselves. It was a strange way of life back then and still remains a mystery to me now. All of us lived in our run-down homes and backwater towns, trying to salvage whatever joy we had as we buried more and more of the dead. It became routine and maybe it was because of that we became rather numb to the feel of lifeless bodies, each one of them either a friend or beloved Pokemon. Although death was a commodity, the moon's smile each and every twilight gave me a fleeting hope; a fleeting hope of a future free of these atrocities. Unfortunately, that hope would fade by morning.
Atop a metal tower riddled with endless stairs that stretched towards the gray cloudy plumes, thin threads of gleaming rails jutted and swiveled through the opaque nimbi. Though it was awful dark out, excitement brewed within the atmosphere.
"Gotta love the night!" a young girl with bright red hair chirped, spreading her arms out to embrace the wind. Oh how she loved the wind.
The sky's blessing of brisk breaths whisked and whirled its fingers through her mane, giving wings for crimson strands to dance in the moonlight. It was a serene and lovely nocturne, the most impeccable conditions for a night of fun and mischief; and mischief was the primary aim of this young girl named Wynelle. She sneered at how adventurous and brave she perceived herself, a general tomboy of blossoming adolescent years. From behind, the voice of her typical companion called out worriedly.
"Wynelle, wait. This is far too dangerous!" he huffed, exhausted from sprinting up the twelve-story tower.
"Oh c'mon Hyatt, it's gonna be fun!"
“It’s late out, and you know the Station Towers are supposed to be closed now! Which is why nobody is here… we should get out before we get caught.”
“I know you’re lying through your teeth.”
"Honestly, sometimes I wonder why I even bother" Hyatt sighed as he pushed his two very irritating bangs back from his face. Yet again, she had denied his warnings despite how much he tended to reiterate himself.
"I knew you'd give in," Wynelle smirked, unfolding a light fiberglass composite longboard and held it out in front of her as if she were going to start a long run right off the tower.
"I didn't say I gave in" Hyatt chimed, immediately growing alert from his dear little chap's intentions. He too began to unfurl his own longboard in an attempt to threaten he would chase her, “I swear if you continue I’ll—“
"Last one off is a rotten togepi egg!"
It was right then and there that Wynelle threw herself off the building, her board resting just below her feet. She grinded the slab of faux plastic along the rails, instantly activating them and creating a two-meter-wide platform of light to lead her along a speedy and exhilarating ride. Hyatt pursued mere moments after her daring departure calling after her every chance he could muster.
"I'm not going back and that's final! Besides you wanted to know how far a board could go before the hover signal dies out!" Wynelle hollered back, veering far off from the safety of the glowing light rail.
"Don't! You'll get yourself hurt!"
In a fit of non-compliance, Hyatt's young 'mischievous' cohort flung herself a fair distance from the clearly visible rail pathway-- instantly causing her board to shut off.
"Huh? But I didn't even go that far," she whined childishly before fully realizing that she was about to fall a twelve-story distance and land on the cold, hard ground. She screamed out her friend's name as she plummeted toward inevitable death.
"No!" Hyatt shouted whilst impulsively leaping after her and only once he had Wynelle in his arms that he concluded how ridiculous and foolish his course of action was. He cussed loudly as his grip tightened, allowing himself to break most of the fall by sacrificing his body to crash against the tree branches.
They landed with a loud thud, ironically with Wynelle on the bottom due to their out of control spinning mid-air. There was a momentary lull; both adolescents clinging to each other as tightly as they could, trying to make sense of the events prior to the somewhat painless landing. Hyatt's eighteen-year-old mind sprung into action and he lifted himself up, hands firmly clutching Wynelle's shoulders. He shook her three times lightly, a stern look in his eyes.
"I can't believe you were brash enough to do it! Honestly Wynelle, we could've died!"
"Hey, it was your fault for going after me in the first place. I could've handled myself just fine!"
"You know that's not true, we could've killed ourselves if it weren't for these trees. I mean look! I have branches sticking out from my jacket" Hyatt scolded, pulling out a few stray twigs that had jammed themselves into his back (though luckily enough not breaking into his skin too deeply).
"I'm the one that had to take the ground, dummy" Wynelle snapped back, "stop being so protective of me! I'm grown up, MOM."
"I told you I'm not your mother I'm your surrogate father. I'll keep scolding you until you actually learn a lesson or--"
Hyatt hesitated to finish his rant, sensing an ominous air surrounding them. Wynelle frowned at him and was about to interject into his moment of discomfort when he hushed her by placing a finger to her lips.
"Shh, I think I hear something."
Heard something he did indeed. A high whimper echoed into the sky, much more pronounced than the subtle noise Hyatt had taken notice to.
"We should check it out, it sounds like someone's in danger!" Wynelle suggested rather urgently and sprinted into the forest at breakneck speed with Hyatt by her side. It beat a boring lecture, that’s for sure.
Little did they know the sight that greeted them would scar them forever.
"Why did...why did..." she stuttered as her body shook, disgusted enough to never peel her eyes away. Hyatt couldn’t find the strength to move or attempt to shield Wynelle’s eyes as he too gazed in horror at the corpses glimmering in the moonlight.
The part that wounded us the most was that in such a beautiful night, our hopes of true happiness dissipated many hours earlier.
Okay, Light Rails were a little system I thought of for cheap transportation in Johto. They essentially go through all the land and each town has a tower that connects to them. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I know it's dumb and kinda vague.
Thank you for reading, reviews are much appreciated but are optional of course.
