"I just went to say thanks to the author 'Me' for letting me, Blossom 1209,
borrow ideas from the start of his story based on the he finale, 'The Way We Were,'
which I've changed. The author "Me" eventually made this TV Universe,
but I've decided to do a Book Universe version, but without
Michelle and Stephanie's fight. that wouldn't have happened in books.
This also means I've changed Michelle's friends, Denise and Lisa, to Cassie and And Mandy.
the story is similar to the author 'Me''s with ideas borrowed from the first few chapters,
but then it will become different."
now on with the story.
Chapter One
Thirteen-year-old Stephanie Tanner sighed heavily. She was dressed in a lime pink outfit and wore her blonde hair long. She stared at a lined sheet of paper. It looked like how her mind felt. Blank. She thought, I can’t think of a single short story topic for English and I’m usually very good at that.
She capped her pen and put it on her desk. It was almost time to leave for her sister’s horse jumping contest anyway. Even though her sister Michelle had made her angry yesterday, she knew she should go. The whole family was going to be there to cheer for her. Besides, their dad, Danny Tanner, had already left with Michelle.
Still, thinking of Michelle’s actions put her in an even fouler mood. Stephanie needed something to lift her spirits. She knew her best friend, Allie, didn't move away.
Stephanie called Allie's house. The phone rang until Stephanie heard her best friend answer, “Taylor residence.” Then Allie said that it's not the kind that sew clothes together because people who sew clothes are called tailors.
“Hey, Allie, glad I caught you,” Stephanie said with relief. She told her friend about the argument she'd had with Michelle.
Allie chuckled. “Remember that time you kept coming up with silly names for D.J.'s boyfriend Rick?”
“Do I ever. But at least I was imaginative. All Michelle did was say I had dry lips,” Stephanie remarked.
“So, what did you do? Pull out some embarrassing pictures of her like you did with D.J when you were ten?” Allie asked.
“I was close. Luckily, Michelle backed off when we talked about it. At least enough to let Andrew and I kiss. But still, I even thought about doing one of those rhymes like kids her age do. You know, the one with kissing in it,” Stephanie said.
“Or at least spelled out,” Allie remarked. Stephanie was glad Allie hadn't moved away, as she almost did a few years back.
“Yeah. But I just can't help but say the word. I mean, kissing Andrew was such a thrill.” They talked for a minute about that. Allie hadn't had her first kiss yet. Then Stephanie returned to Michelle. “I just don't like it when we argue, even a little. I mean, I know she wouldn't have wanted me to tease her about kissing a boy at her age.”
“That's true and even those pictures of her eating out of a gallon drum of ice cream are something,” Allie said.
“And she was only five when I snapped that picture.” The memory made Stephanie laugh. “It's fun to talk about that stuff. But I really want to be able to protect her from stuff like that. I guess I've got a bit of Dad in me after all, huh?” Allie agreed. “Especially with this horse jumping contest today. Dad's been putting so much pressure on her. D.J. had to have a talk with him. I don't know what would have happened if she hadn't gone to D.J. about this.”
“It's a good thing she's taken after D.J. and not your uncle Jesse,” Allie said.
Stephanie laughed. “Please, I don't even want to think about that. He's a great guy but he can still have a bit of an attitude at times. She might have wandered out on the trail if she'd gone to him.”
“Steph, hurry up. We don’t want to be late,” her Aunt Becky called up the steps.
Stephanie shrugged. Maybe her dad was right. Watching this competition would be fun. Stephanie said to Allie, “I've got to go but I will call you as soon as I get home. Okay?”
Allie said, “Sure.”
Then they both hung up the phone and Stephanie went down the steps happy that she and Michelle had talked the night before. If she and Michelle had gotten into an argument and she hadn't forgiven her right away, she would’ve been miserable.
Becky helped her boys Nicky and Alex, 4-year-old identical twins, with their spring jackets.
“Boys, you’ll ride with me. Joey’s taking D.J. and Stephanie.”
“Okay, Mommy,” Nicky said.
“Will they have a merry go ‘round?” Alex wanted to know.
Becky laughed. “No, no merry go ‘round, Alex. We’re just going to watch horses.”
Stephanie was glad that Michelle had backed off when she had said to Andrew that she had some embarrassing pictures of Michelle. Stephanie remembered seeing the look on Michelle’s face when she and Andrew kissed-finally.
She tried to remember that she’d teased her eighteen-year-old sister, D.J., the same way sometimes. But Stephanie still loved Michelle, who was eight years old.
“Where’s Daddy,” Alex asked.
“He’s doing some work for the band. Or maybe it’s for his club,” Becky explained. She wished her husband, Jesse, had more time for his family.
Lately, he’d been really busy. He’d formed a new band, and he needed to do quite a few things for his club, the Smash Club.
Stephanie got into the car. “Stephie, your expression looks as sour as two-year-old milk,” Joey remarked, trying to lift her spirits.
Stephanie chuckled. Joey was a very funny comedian.
Joey thought for a moment. “Oh, I know what it is, Stephie.” He reached for something in his pocket. “Here, put these up your nose. They’ll hide the horses’ smell.”
Stephanie shook her head as he handed them back to her. “Joey, these are ear plugs.”
He held a finger to his mouth to shush her. “Don’t tell them, they won’t know the difference.”
Stephanie grinned. Joey could make anyone smile. Actually, anyone in their family could. Even Michelle. She wanted to have fun but as they entered the stables, she wondered if it would be possible.
D.J. smiled at Stephanie. “Hey, Steph,” she said as they walked toward a table.
“Mommy, you said this would be fun,” Nicky whined.
Alex looked insistent. He thought people were supposed to smile if they were having fun. “Yeah and Stephanie’s not smiling.”
Stephanie forced a large grin. “Sorry. How’s this?”
“That’s better!” Alex declared.
Stephanie gazed around. “Okay, I’m smiling. Now, where’s Michelle?” she wondered.
Michelle shook her head and rolled her eyes. “This is nuts,” she said to herself. Her new friend, Elizabeth, silently agreed.
They were near the starting gate for the horse jumping competition. Their parents were arguing like cats and dogs. Each seemed to think their child capable of superhuman feats. Each contended that their child was far better. The girls felt like they had to beat each other or else. The girls couldn’t stand the commotion.
Michelle said before they rode off, “Elizabeth, wait here. I'm going to get my sister, D.J.”
So Michelle walked to the stands and D.J. asked, “Michelle, why aren't you on your horse?”
Michelle replied, “It's dad and Elizabeth's mom. They won't let us have fun. They think Elizabeth and I have to compete against each other.”
D.J. said, “Let me talk to them both, and thanks, Michelle, for coming to me again.”
Michelle walked back to Elizabeth, and Michelle’s eyes brightened. “I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we skip the contest and go riding on the trail; for fun? Then we don't have to win anything.”
Elizabeth couldn’t agree more. That was what she’d wanted to do when she signed up to learn to ride. Why had she ever wanted to jump, anyway? Her mom, Morgan, was driving her as crazy as Danny seemed to be driving Michelle. Three victories in a row weren’t as much fun when her mom acted like this. “Michelle, you’re a genius.”
Michelle said, “Let's do this fast before my sister D.J. comes and sees what we are about to do. If she finds out, I'm going to be in big trouble with her. She will probably give me a really long lecture.”
So they got on their horses and headed out.
Back at the starting gate, D.J. said to Danny and Morgan, “If you two don't stop fighting, we will turn this horse jumping contest back around and go home. Is that clear?”
Danny said, “You're right, Deej.”
Morgan agreed. She had heard about D.J. and how D.J. could be very serious when she wanted to be.
