Chapter eight: Neglect and revenge
A month had passed since the well known Haruno/Hatake wedding. It had been a beautiful ceremony, which was something even Pakkun could see. The decoration had been modest, since it wasn’t really needed, because of the beautiful sakura trees that framed the garden they had chosen to get married in, were in full bloom.
The beautiful bride had worn a simple, yet stunning gown and the groom had been almost illegally handsome in his black tuxedo. The guest list held their closest friends and family, but some of the important people of the village had attended as well, considering it was in fact Kakashi Hatake and the Hokage’s apprentice, who were getting married. The announcement of their engagement had come as a very pleasant surprise to the elders of the village. They would never have thought that the famous Copy Ninja would ever settle down like this. The fact that it was his fourteen years younger ex-student was another shock, but considering the opportunities, it was overlooked.
The bride had been given away by her father, who had given them his blessing. Pakkun chuckled at the memory of Kakashi’s nervousness over meeting Sakura’s parents for the first time. Sure they had met before, but then he had been her sensei, not her boyfriend. But to everybody’s delight, it had gone well and Sakura’s mother had been overjoyed the day the news of their engagement had been revealed to them and secretly, so had her father.
But now when the wedding had finally been and the honeymoon was over, things started to get back to normal or as normal as things could be with this pair.
Pakkun had never seen anything, that spend as much time as his master and his mate did in their bedroom. They barley took time to eat or drink, because when the other came home after a long day at work, the other would jump him or her, resulting in that Pakkun had to sleep all alone on the couch in the living room.
He missed his bed and he kind of missed his master too. Not that he didn’t like Sakura, because he did. A lot. It was just that he hadn’t had any alone time with Kakashi for what felt like years and then we’re talking dog years.
The dog felt neglected really. That was the case. Not that he rather not have Sakura there anymore, because he saw what a huge change she had made in his master, but he just wanted some alone time with Kakashi. He had decided that he had to do something about it, so he decided to talk to his master about their situation.
“Kakashi.”
“Hmm?” The man hummed from behind his book.
“I’ve been thinking. I think we should spend more time with each other.”
“We spend almost every minute together, Pakkun. I don’t see how it would be possible to do so, unless I gave up on everything else and never left the house.” The man answered, as he flipped the page he had finished.
“I know, but that’s not what I’m saying.” The small dog huffed.
“Then what are you saying, Pakkun?”
“I want to spend more time with you, alone.”
Kakashi let the book fall to his lap, as he looked at the dog with a small smile on his lips.
“Without Sakura you mean?” The dog nodded in confirmation.
“Are you jealous, Pakkun?” Kakashi grinned.
“What? No, of course not.”
“I think you are.” Kakashi chuckled.
The dog pouted as he jumped down from the couch and started to walk in to the kitchen.
“Hey, come back. We’re not done talking.”
“Yes we are.” Pakkun huffed.
“I’m sorry, Pakkun. Come back here, I promise I won’t laugh at you.”
The dog didn’t return to the couch, but he did stop and sat down on the floor with his back still turned away from Kakashi. Said man smirked, as he looked at the grumpy pug on the floor. He really was such a puppy sometimes.
“I’m sorry you’re feeling neglected.” Kakashi said. “It was never my intention.”
“…”
“We can start to hang out together without Sakura, if you want.”
“…”
“Really?”
“Yes.” Kakashi smiled.
“Do you promise?”
“Yes.”
Pakkun turned around again and trotted over to the couch. He didn’t have time to jump up on it, before Kakashi leaned forward and picked him up.
“You’re my buddy, Pakkun. Nothing will change that.” The man said and scratched the small dog behind the ear.
Pakkun smiled and lowered his head to his paws. This was just what he wanted and needed from his friend right now. They sat like that, not saying a word to each other, while Kakashi scratched Pakkun’s belly and read his book.
After a few minutes, the silver haired man lowered his book again and stopped the affectionate gesture he was performing on his dog. The pug frowned once he noticed that the comfortable movements of Kakashi’s hand had stopped and looked up at his master.
“Hey, why did you stop?”
“There is something I need to tell you.” Kakashi smiled.
“Okay.” Pakkun said, sounding a little wary.
“Don’t freak out now, but Sakura and I… we’re trying to have a baby.”
Pakkun felt his eyes widen in shock, as he stared at his master. Kakashi stared back at the dog with worried eyes. Maybe it was too much to handle for him right now?
“Y-your trying to have a baby?”
“Yes.” The man said calmly.
“Already?”
“I’m not getting any younger. I’m almost thirty-seven and it’s something we both want.”
“But you two just got married.”
Kakashi smiled.
“I know we’re kind of rushing things, but we’ve known each other for more than ten years.”
Pakkun didn’t say anything after that. He just stared at the man in front of him with a blank expression on his face. Kakashi felt a little uneasy because of his reaction. He had hoped for a little more enthusiasm from his friend, but that was something he wouldn’t get. Not for now at least.
“I won’t neglect you, you know.”
“Hmph.”
“I won’t. I promised. Remember?”
“…”
“Do you have time to do something now?”
“Sure.” His master smiled.
The sour expression on the dog’s face lit up a little at the man’s confirmation.
“Good, then how about if we-”
“Kakashi, Pakkun I’m home!”
The small dog froze as the familiar and cheerful voice of Sakura Hatake sang from the hallway and flinched, as the sound of her slamming the door followed.
Soon Sakura appeared in the room with a big smile on her face, looking just as stupidly hopeful and excited as she had been looking lately. The expression was the complete opposite to the one on Pakkun’s face, when Kakashi rose from the couch to greet his wife.
“Hi.” He whispered and kissed her lips.
“Hi, there yourself.” Sakura winked.
After a silent, but still somehow intense conversation, where the only communication was between their eyes, the couple started to walk towards their bedroom.
“But Kakashi, weren’t we supposed to-”
“I’m sorry Pakkun. Another time. I promise.” The man shouted over his shoulder, before he turned back around and closed the bedroom door behind him.
Pakkun slumped down on the couch with a big frown on his face and covered his ears with his tiny paws. As he lay there, feeling sorry for himself, he thought that if dogs could cry, there would have been a big, salty stain on this couch by now.
Hours later a knock could be heard from the hallway. Pakkun woke from his light slumber on the sofa and once again, he heard the sound echoed through the apartment. Judging from the other noises that came from the closed bedroom, Kakashi and Sakura were still in there.
Pakkun sighed as someone knocked again and jumped down from the couch to walk in to the hallway.
When he reached the small entrance room, he walked straight to the doggy door Kakashi had installed a few years ago and walked through it. When he came to the other side, he was met by an orange boy with whiskers on his cheeks.
“Pakkun, hi.” The blonde smiled. “How are you?”
“Okay, I guess. How about you?”
“Good.” Naruto answered. “Are you home alone?”
“No.”
“Are Sakura-chan and Kakashi-sensei home?”
“Yes, both of them are.” The dog confirmed stiffly.
“Then why aren’t they opening the door? I’ve been knocking for five minutes.” The boy questioned in annoyance.
Pakkun almost panicked there for a second. What was he supposed to say? Why had he told him that they were home? The dog was just about to come up with a fake explanation, but then he thought of something that would be a lot more fun to say and a lot easier to say as well, since he didn’t have to come up with an explanation for his owners’ absence.
“Well?” The blonde pressed after a minute of silence.
“They’re busy at the moment.” Pakkun said matter-of-factly.
“With what?” Naruto frowned.
Pakkun grinned. ‘Hehe, Sakura’s gonna love this.’
“Mating.”
Bad dog, Pakkun. Bad dog. Hehe, I can imagine how Sakura would react if that happened. In my head, it wouldn't be pretty.
As usual, I hope that you enjoyed this chapter!
