Omega and Chaos are ancient history as the Planet recovers from yet another attempt on its life. Vincent Valentine reflects on all that he has experienced during his fight against Deepground, remaining firmly isolated from his friends and the WRO. Yuffie calls Vincent often, never failing in being frustrated when he does not pick up.
Plagued by memories of his lost love, his reverie seems to keep drifting back to the ninja. The pains of his past sins co-mingle with the less-than-lighthearted adventures of his present. Vincent thinks upon when he defeated Omega and disappeared, isolating himself. He remembers when he confronted Lucrecia about what she planned to do with her child, and how he did not try to stop her.
Memories of all the times Yuffie had made him smile with her exuberant antics and cheerful disposition overcome those of his other life. "Imagine that! Me saving the great Vincent Valentine!"
She is tiresome, persistent, naive, and childish. Yet by merely being near her, Vincent feels his burden lessen, if only for the moment. Emerging from his reminiscence, he stares at the cell phone that sits on a table across the room, contemplating. His small apartment in Kalm is dark, the only light being provided by the full moon outside and the flickering colors of the television. The light glances off of the chrome Cerberus design that adorns the phone's cover. Vincent gets up, taking the device into his gloved hand and dialing the number that had dialed him so often and so tirelessly.
"Yuffie it's been a while.
"I'm sorry."
