‘Hurts.”

Sammy sighs next to me, holding my wrist like a lifeline, the doc just prodding and poking my bruised chest, making me hiss.

“I know, dude. Shallow breaths, okay? Like I showed you.”

I nod, pressure building with each inhale.

“Damn… dairy… products!”

Sammy chuckles. Bitch!

“Dean, seriously, who slips on a blob of butter, while making popcorn to watch the game, before breaking their fall on the sharp edge of a kitchen chair and cracking three ribs?”

“Oh, Lord... shoot me.”

Worried eyes lock with mine.

“They’ll give you something for the pain.”

“No… I missed the game?”
