Summary: A few responses Gilderoy Lockhart could have gotten on the quiz he handed out the first day he taught class. Serves as a laugh and another glimpse at those lost in the war.
Disclaimer: Me? Own Harry Potter? If I did, why would I be writing fanfiction about it?
Colin Creevey, sitting next to Ginny Weasley in his first year Defense Against the Dark Arts class, was puzzled. He had looked up from the quiz he had been writing his name on at a sound from his left. He turned to see Ginny trying to hide sniggers behind her hand. Colin didn't understand what was so funny . . . until he began to read the quiz.
Even though he knew it would not be wise to smart mouth his teacher on his first quiz on his first day at Hogwarts, he couldn't help but indulge on one question. He was a Gryffindor, after all.
1. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?
Gold or blue. Gold for the color of his deliciously wavy hair and blue for his forget-me-not-blue eyes. But it could be white for his pearly white, glistening smile.
Colin snorted behind his hand as he reread his answer and then made the mistake of catching Ginny's eye. The two had to try harder then ever to stop laughing loudly then and there. He wondered if Lockhart would even have sense enough to catch his sarcasm.
He only hoped he have an opportunity to tell Harry about it.
Cedric Diggory growled in frustration as he bent over his paper. This new teacher was insane, absurd. He had read each and every one of the "hero's" books during the summer. He inwardly laughed. What a waste of time! Scribbling his name on his paper so hurriedly the ink made an indecipherable smear, he skipped question one and moved onto the second question.
2. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's secret ambition?
He inwardly groaned, but unable to stop himself, wrote:
To have his home filled with autographed, winking pictures of himself. No one else. Who else would be worth the film then someone who had won Witch Weekly's "Most Charming Smile Award" no less than five times?
He smiled; maybe this quiz wouldn't be so bad after all. He steadily worked his way through the three pages of questions with grim satisfaction
And thus it was that in his fifth year, respectable, prefect, Cedric Diggory, earned himself five detentions with everyone's favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.
Fred Weasley stared down in complete disbelief at the quiz sitting on his and the other fourth-years Defense Against the Dark Arts class. This was a joke; it had to be, right? No teacher in their right mind would make questions like this . . . right?
But when Gilderoy Lockhart announced cheerfully, turning over an hourglass, "You have twenty five minutes. Begin," he knew it wasn't a joke.
He grinned evilly. It might not have been originally intended as a joke, yet he couldn't help but make it one. He shared a meaningful look at his twin, George and his twin's smile grew to match his own.
Fred looked down at the paper and scanned until he reached question three.
3. What, in your opinion, is Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement to date?
With his still cheerful/evil smile, Fred dipped his quill in his ink and wrote:
To have so perfected weightless charms that he's able to remain standing up straight with his over-inflated ego that should have toppled him over long ago.
