Author's Note: The presence of Ahsoka bothers me, because she doesn't exist in Episode 3. I expect her to be removed from the story by death or disappearance, because she is too young to be made a Jedi Knight. So, this is my version of the disappearance scenario.
My name is Ahsoka Tano. I was born in 1 BrS, on the planet Shili. I am a Togruta, and I am a Jedi. When I was three years old, I was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon, a Kel Dor member of the Jedi Council, shortly after I became the youngest Togruta to earn the right to wear the Akul-tooth headdress, by killing an Akul. And at the age of fourteen, I because the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker.
Until he betrayed me and left me for dead. You see, the Republic got a tip that Nute Gunray was hiding on Koru Neimoidia, and Skywalker was sent to capture him. As his Padawan, I was brought along. We landed outside of a compound, and entered it, only to be separated shortly after entering. We tried to keep in contact via comlink, but our signal was jammed. For the first time since Plo Koon found me, I was alone.
I wandered along inside that place until I started getting scared. Though, at the time, I wouldn’t have admitted that I was afraid; after all, fear is the path to the Dark Side.
Anyway, it wasn’t long that I discovered that the walls of the building were resistant to my lightsaber; whether they were made of Mandalorian iron, phrik, or cortosis, it doesn’t matter. The point is that I was scared, panicking, and wasn’t using the Force like I should have been; I didn’t feel the presence of the bounty hunters until they shot me with a slug thrower bullet. It entered through my right shoulder and went deep into my chest. The bounty hunters then shot me three more times. The pain was excruciating; I passed out from it within minutes.
I don’t know how much time had passed when I woke up, but I remember being held from the ceiling by chains, with a strange collar around my neck. I also found that I couldn’t call on the Force; I couldn’t even think straight. I later found out that the collar was a neural disruptor; a device that keeps a mind in an unfocused state.
Anyway, the bounty hunters tortured me for three and a half years. They were sick individuals; the things they did to me were horrendous. I later found out that they were Jedi Hunters, hired by the Separatists’, but unaffiliated with them. Apparently they were remnants of Iaco Stark’s army from the Stark Hyperspace war, intent on learning better ways to kill Jedi. And, as near as I can tell, they figured a Padawan would be easier to catch than Skywalker.
Those bastards put me through hell in those three and a half years. They used torture cages, but they also used much more archaic devices as well. They used things like whips, both the standard single strand and the cat o’ nine tails varieties, burnings (both flame and acid), water curing, choking, cutting, starvation, sleep deprivation, and they even ripped my claws out a couple of times. They also just plain beat me, and also plenty of mental tortures; trying to see what would make me break.
At first, I held together. I was a Jedi, and my master would come for me. But as the days turned to weeks, and then months, I began to despair. Skywalker and the Jedi Order had to think I was dead, and that no one was coming for me. In time that despair turned to anger; Skywalker should have looked for me, prevented me from being put through this hell.
But with that anger came clarity. For the first time in a long time, I had a focus, a way to break through the mental fog caused by the neural disruptor. But, when I realized this, I had a dilemma; by feeding my anger, I opened myself to the Dark Side. But if I didn’t feed my anger, I could never call on the Force to a degree where I could free myself. Eventually, I decided that the best option was to free myself, get to Coruscant and get Master Yoda and Master Plo to help me from there.
So, I unleashed my anger, destroying the neural disruptor and the chains, and then I killed every being in that compound. And I didn’t kill them mercifully, no. I butchered them, making sure they suffered in death as I suffered at their hands. I made sure they paid for holding me as long as they did, and putting me through that hell.
After I ensured that they all died, I did three things before I left. First, I ate and drank my fill. It felt so good to eat and drink something, and actually enjoy it. Seeing the meats they had available in that compound was glorious. As a Togruta, I love meat, whether raw or cooked. And I had a feast fit for a queen with what they had available.
I also slept as long as I wanted. As I said, the bounty hunters used sleep deprivation on me, so sleeping on my terms was a pleasure to be savored.
Lastly, I got myself some new clothes, because not only were the clothes I had been captured in tatters, but far too small; I had aged quite a bit in that time. At the time, I didn’t know how long I had been there, but I knew a lot of time had passed, because my montrals and third lekku had grown in. Anyway, after some searching, I found myself a flight suit that was slightly larger than me, but not too much so, and took the first ship I could find; a small cargo freighter, and made my way to Coruscant.
Once at Coruscant, I contacted the flight control, gave them my name, and was immediately attacked by what I now know to be TIE fighters. I took evasive action, and did my best to avoid the ships as I attempted to get to the Jedi Temple. I had almost made it when I was shot down. I crash landed on the temple’s landing platform, and was immediately attacked by soldiers in armor similar to Clone Trooper armor. Panicked, I once again drew on the power of the Dark Side, and killed them all. I snuck in to the temple, and found out a great deal of what had been happening in the last three and a half years.
The Clone Wars was over; Count Dooku and General Grievous were dead, and the Separatist battle droids were deactivated. But something horrifying happened after that. Apparently, the Jedi found out the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was the Sith Lord we had been looking for, and Skywalker became his apprentice. And, shortly after “knighting” Skywalker as a Sith, Palpatine ordered the death of all Jedi; Order 66. Order 66. A simple phrase that meant the death knell of the Jedi Order. Order 66 had been going on for 6 months when I returned to Coruscant, which explained why I was attacked immediately after giving them my name.
It was at that moment that I needed to get revenge on Palpatine and Skywalker for what they did to the Jedi Order. But, I was not strong enough. Despite my growing command of the Dark Side, I was still just a Padawan. I needed training, and the best place to get that was in the Jedi Temple.
For the next ten years, I stayed in the shadow of the Jedi Temple, learning what I could about the more subtle aspects of the Force; like how to dominate an individual’s mind, how to conceal my presence in the Force, and other skills that I would need to survive and live as a Jedi Knight. And I also studied the Dark Side. I figured that, since the Jedi who used the Light Side of the Force had been destroyed, the only way I was going to survive long enough to kill Skywalker was to learn to use the power of the Dark Side.
During that time, I had to lay low. I got a job as a cantina dancer, and I worked there as my body finished developing. Of course, I was unwilling to let any of the lecherous men put their hands on me. After kicking the asses of a few people who tried to cop a feel on me, I came to the attention of the owner. She knew that there was something different about me when she hired me; my torture scars and burns pretty much said that. But when she saw how well I fought, she knew I wasn’t just some freak who enjoyed pain; I was a warrior. She told me that she could use my skills as another enforcer. She said that, in addition to my duties as a dancer, I would also work to guard the other dancers, shake down anyone who wouldn’t pay, and throw out those that were disruptive. And my pay would be reflective of these additional duties. I smiled when she finished; more money meant less time before I could bring down Skywalker. I took the job, and my pay doubled.
I actually lived comfortably in that time. With a job, I had money, and with that money, I was able to purchase the gear I needed to kill Skywalker. I bought a combat suit, a few blasters, even a couple of slug throwers. I also managed to purchase a ship; a small freighter I dubbed the Sky Stomper. I also purchased a pilot droid to perform copilot duties.
After a few years, I needed to test my new capabilities, so I asked my boss if she knew where I could find bounty hunting jobs, and she put me in contact with the Imperial Peace-Keeping Office. Since the Empire ran it, I used a pseudonym; Sela Ven. I’ve been hunting bounties for the Empire ever since, and to be honest, I don’t feel bad about it. After all, after what the Empire did to the Jedi, they deserve to compensate me.
Ten years after the Clone Wars ended, I was ready to face Skywalker. Through the Imperial Databases I sliced into, I found that Skywalker had a burning hatred of his old master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, so I started rumors of Obi-Wan hiding out on Ord Mantell. I even posed as Obi-Wan for a little while, to give credence to the rumors I started. Eventually, I got word that Skywalker had taken the bait, and was coming to find me.
I waited for Skywalker in an old warehouse that was used as a weapon’s depot in the Clone Wars. I was alerted to his presence through the Force as he entered the building, but I could hear the breathing of the respirator as he entered the room. I got up from my meditations, and stood to face him, with my cloak still covering my head.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Skyguy,” I said to him with bile in my throat. I knew that name would immediately clue him to who I was, but there was no affection in my words; only hatred for what he did to me.
“My former Padawan,” Skywalker said, while his respirator continued to breathe for him. His voice had changed greatly since I knew him; it was deeper, more commanding. At the time I guessed that Skywalker chose to use machinery to deepen his voice for greater intimidation, but the truth was very different.
“The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master,” I said to Skywalker, as I dropped my hood to show him my face.
“You’re a master of nothing, Snips,” Skywalker said, pulling his lightsaber off his belt. “You were weak when I left you on Koru Neimoidia, and you are weak today.”
Snips. His nickname for me, because of my feisty personality as a child. So, he still looked at me as nothing more than a child. Well, that would change soon.
I dropped my cloak to the floor, and pulled my lightsaber from my belt. “In many ways, I should thank you. If you hadn’t left me behind, I would have been killed when your master issued Order 66,” I said, as I glared at him. “And I would never have discovered the power of the Dark Side.”
Skywalker made what sounded like a chuckle. “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side, Snips,” Skywalker said.
“Well,” I said, as I activated my lightsaber. “We’ll just see about that, won’t we?” And then I lunged at him.
Skywalker casually activated his lightsaber, and picked me up by the throat with his free hand. “You never did abandon that reverse grip style you used,” Skywalker said, throwing me to the ground. He pointed his lightsaber directly at my face. “That mistake will cost you your life.”
My anger seethed at that, and I channeled the Dark Side to throw him back. I leapt up from the ground, and immediately held my lightsaber directly in front of me.
Throughout our duel, Skywalker continued to toy with me. He was slower, but far stronger. And he used his considerable command of the Force to keep me from getting close enough to even injure him, never once even swinging his lightsaber at me for anything but a block. After knocking me on my ass a dozenth time, Skywalker ripped my lightsaber from my hand, and started choking me with the Force.
“I’m going to let you live, Snips, as a lesson,” Skywalker said, raising me up into the air. “You show great promise, with your basic knowledge of the Dark Side, but you lack discipline; a trait you exhibited as a Jedi as well. When you have mastered discipline, then you will be strong enough to face me.” And then Skywalker dropped me. The then telekinetically crushed my lightsaber, leaving only the crystal behind. Then, he deactivated his lightsaber and turned to leave. “Remember that the Dark Side is your ally, and you will see me again.” And then he left.
I did a great deal of research into his armor after that, and found some interesting things. First, his armor isn’t just some intimidation device; it’s cybernetics needed to keep him alive. Skywalker is now a cyborg. He needs that armor to live, but there were two very important things about the armor that I learned from Palpatine’s secret files; that those buttons and dials on his chest control the life support, and that his cybernetics are vulnerable to Force Lightning, a skill that I’ve only recently mastered.
I’ve spent the nine years learning more about the Dark Side and of lightsaber combat. I learned a great deal about the abilities of the ancient Sith, even sneaking into the Emperor’s Palace and making copies of his Dark Side Compendium, giving me knowledge of things like Sith magic and Sith alchemy. In fact, I used Sith alchemy to construct my current lightsaber.
I’ve also found some interesting developments in this “Galactic Civil War” that is being waged. First, Palpatine’s terror weapon, the Death Star, was destroyed by the Rebel Alliance, which I find extremely amusing. Second, I felt a disturbance in the Force about the time the Death Star was destroyed. This disturbance…was like a beacon of light in the darkness of the Force. I believe the disturbance centered on the one who is said to have destroyed the Death Star, a “Luke Skywalker.” If this “Luke” is leaching off the name of my former master, he is nothing to worry about. But, if he is related to Skywalker, as I believe him to be, then he may be useful. If he could be turned to the Dark Side, he could become a valuable ally against Palpatine and Skywalker. Only time will tell.
