Hi! I'm new to Twilight fanfic. I used to write in Wolverine/Rogue fandom. This has been beta'd by Project Team Beta and Ninna! Thanks guys.
Prologue
Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;
Whole misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,
And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.
Romeo and Juliet
Act I Prologue
By William Shakespeare
It was as though I could hear my own heartbeat pounding in my ears, cursing me for the horrible act that I'd committed.
What have I done?
I slowly lowered my gun and stared into the eyes of my foe, Jacob Black, the enemy I had been raised to hate. He stared back at me, his black eyes filled with pure hatred. It didn't take long before his face turned into that of utter panic. He immediately rushed to the side of the innocent man that had fallen, blood already started to pool on the ground, his breath coming out in sputtering coughs. Shock kept me rooted where I stood, not believing the bloody scene that was before me.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
Why did it have to be him that stepped in between us?
"You're both," he coughed as he continued to speak, "to blame."
The weight of my actions began to settle on my chest, suffocating me. Jacob gently lifted the wounded man's head, causing him to cough up blood and stutter his words even more. A loud piercing scream from a far off snapped me out of my reverie. I quickly rushed to his side, hovering my trembling hands over the wound that I had caused.
With all the strength he could muster, he sucked in a deep breath and spoke again, "I put the blame on both your names."
I knew that pressure needed to be applied to the wound, so I pressed my hand down on his abdomen. As he cried out in pain, I watched blood began to spill all over my hand. Shakily, I placed my other hand on his face as though to comfort him. "I'm so sorry-"
"Get your hands off of him!" growled Jacob as he shoved me away. I fell back into the arms of my brother, Emmett, knocking us both down on the pavement. I saw a group of men run towards the street as they called for help. I felt my brother pulling me up, trying to get me to move. "Come on, Edward," he anxiously whispered. "We have to get you out of here!"
Even though he used all his strength, I wouldn't budge from where I was kneeling. How would she handle this? I thought to myself. I promised her that I had changed, and that things would be different. We were going to bring this town together with love and not tear it further apart with more hate. Everything we did today was for our families but I ruined it by being a monster.
I fucked everything up.
"End this," he whispered, looking me straight in the eyes. "Make it right."
"But how?" Jacob cried out. "We can't just end something that has been instilled in us ever since we were born!"
I watched helplessly as he took in his last breath. "Edward!" my brother hissed. "Chief Swan is on his way. We have to go before he gets here." He tugged my arm again. "Now!" His warning hit home when I realized who would be showing up in a matter of seconds. Taking one last look at the horrific mess I'd created, I took off running. The last words he uttered kept echoing louder and louder in my head. "Make it right."
As I followed Emmett to my car, only one thought crossed my mind. Would my Isabella still love me after today?
Please leave a review and show me some love!
