!!SPECIAL EFFECTS!! "THOUGHTS"
Chapter Two
"What?!" Norman Osborne screamed from the receiver of his telephone from the 40 story Oscorp building he owned.
"There's been an explosion at the laboratory, Mr. Osborne!" one of the scientists said, calling from across the street from the wrecked laboratory. "It's practically rumble!"
"Where's Dr. Zachary?!"
"He's dead, Mr. Osborne. Otto Octavius killed him when he..."
"Is this some sick joke?!"
"No, Mr. Osborne! Check the local news if you don't believe me. And if that's not enough for you, you can come here where the lab used to be."
"Why did the lab explode in the first place?" Norman asked impatiently.
"Dr. Octavius was using too much power for his experiment."
"What experiment was this?"
"He was trying to get power from an alternate dimension by using some kid named Peter Parker as a focus."
"That name sounds vaguely familiar. What did the kid have to do with all this?"
"The Parker kid had a great deal of potential. He even got powers of his own at the same time as Dr. Octopus."
"Dr. Octopus?!"
"Yes. That's what Octavius calls himself now. The explosion changed him, making him a lot stronger and more viral."
"And what happened to the kid?"
"He came out of the wreckage, turned into a powerful, handsome man with wings. He seems to have merged with the silver condor Octavius used."
"And why am I only being informed of this now?"
"It wasn't up to me, Mr. Osborne. I was only..."
"Hello, Mr. Osborne?" a voice that was all business interjected.
"Yes?! Who is this?!"
"I'm Detective DeWolfe with the NYPD. Please stay where you are. We're sending some detectives over to your building to question you on what has happened here." !!CLICK!!
"What the heck did Dr. Octavius do? I knew he was a little off but it never occurred to me that he would turn into a ruthless killer. The question now is how can I get that Parker kid to do my bidding." "Miss Thatcher!" Norman ordered from his desk commlink.
"Yes, Mr. Osborne?"
"Get me Abigail Tanner on the line!"
"Yes, Mr. Osborne!" the secretary answered with respect.
"Tanner's a gold digging bitch but she always manages to get good information on the people I want to find out about. The sooner I know everything there is about this Peter Parker the better!"

"Where's Peter?!" May Parker demanded, arriving at the hospital and seeing no sign of her nephew.
"Um. Haven't you heard the news?" a nurse replied calmly.
"What news is this?" Ben Parker inquired.
"Your son was kidnapped by a man calling himself Dr. Octopus!" another heavy set, more boisterous nurse interjected, walking over to them.
"What?!"
"Yeah. It appears Doc Ock used him for an experiment of some kind."
"Don't you have some kind of security here?"
"The guards never saw anything amiss. When we went to Peter's room to give him his breakfast earlier this morning he was gone. Then we heard the news from the Daily Bugle's newscast! What hum dinger that was!"
"So where's my nephew now?" May asked impatiently.
"The police are questioning him. Word has it the kid survived and got turned into some kind of winged creature. Called himself Stratostar. Everyone in the hospital is talking it. I wonder if that makes him a mutant like the X-Men."
"Oh, no!"
"You have to be born a mutant, Eunice. Getting super powers after you're born through some kind of unusual event just makes you an altered human, much like the members of the Fantastic Four," another nurse piped in, giving the Parkers a calming smile.
"Oh, yeah. That's right, Agnes. I wonder whether or not he can actually fly with those wings."
Ben and May walked away from the chattering nurses with a great deal of worried concern. "This can't be, Ben. What do we do?"
"We go to the police and find out what's going on, May. We have to get to the bottom of this."
"Ben and May Parker?"
"Yes?" The both of them looked up and saw two police officers regarding them.
"We'd like you to come with us."
"Are we under arrest?"
"No. We'd simply like to discuss your nephew and what has happened to him. He's at the police station now."
"What has happened to him? Can we see him?"
"We'll get to that, ma'am. Come with us please."

At the police station, Captain Stacy was debriefing Peter. "So what happened from the time you were kidnapped in the hospital?"
"I don't even remember being kidnapped. All I remember is falling asleep at the hospital after reading a book about birds a friend gave me."
"Who's this friend?"
"He's Morty Goldberg. He visited me after I had gotten beaten up by Flash Thompson and the some of the football team."
"Why did they beat you up?"
"They're bullies and they hated the fact that I had finally decided to stand up to them."
"I see. Do you have any memory of being experimented or hooked up to any devices?"
"No. I was totally unconscious for all that."
"What do you remember?"
"I had a dream."
"What happened in this dream," Captain Stacy asked, taking notes.
"It started with me being what I am now. At the beginning of the dream I started practicing everything I had spent time learning and training."
"Training?"
"Yes. I had watched all kinds of martial arts tapes like speed hitting, boxing, wrestling, tae kwon do and the like, learning everything I could from them."
"You learned how to fight from watching tapes?!"
"Yes. It worked well against the football team!"
"It didn't work too well against them; they put you in the hospital."
"There were about twenty of them! Anyway, I spent what seemed to be an eternity practicing everything I learned from reading books and watching tapes, going beyond what I had learned. It is now easy for me to sense the pressure points in someones body which are most vulnerable."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. My knowledge of hand to hand combat is over a thousand years advanced of what most martial artists know today. And in addition to that, I have the physical and psychological ability to use what I have learned. To sum things up, I have the science of the West combined with the mysticism of the East, backed up by a thousand years of training. As far as I know, I'm the deadliest person on the planet."
"Apart from your delusions of grandeur, is there anything else?"
"Yes. I also spent a lot of time expounding on everything else I had learned in school and in my time at the library. My knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and other sciences has increased. I even acquired the science of Ornithology from reading that huge book of birds Morty had given me."
"You learned all that from a dream? I find that hard to believe."
"It wasn't just a dream; it was real. I spent a lot of time training. During that time I increased what I already knew; it was a learning experience. I even learned about radiology. How that happened I don't know."
"Can you fly with the wings you have now?"
"Yes, I can."
"How do you know?"
"I practiced that as well."
"More dream training?"
"You can say that. But alternate dimensional training in what seemed like a timewarp is a much better explanation."
"Oh." "This kid's nuts."
"Now my wings are such that I can use them in aerial combat with a great deal of efficiency; I can also fly without them. I even increased the little bit of acrobatic and breakfall ability I had already learned to a super human level."
"Don't those wings get in the way at all?"
"No, I'm fine with them. They're like another pair of arms and hands. They can write or do anything else my hands can do. I'm all together ambidextrous."
"Have you spent a lot of much time watching cartoons?" the police officer asked with a look of incredulity.
"Yes. Come to think of it, I can even fire off ki blasts like that spiked haired guy from DragonballZ."
"Really?" "This kid is really off his rocker!"
"Yes! If you don't believe me I can show you."
"Not right now. We'll have some scientists test your abilities."
"I don't know if I want to go through what Dr. Octavius put me through again."
"It would be better to test out what you have dreamed so we can out find out what you can and can't do."
"I know what I can do."
"We'll find out about all that later. But in the mean time I have a proposition for you."
"What is it?" the strangely garbed teenager asked a little suspiciously.
"I would like to see about making you a police officer."
"Police officer?!"
"Yes. It would be helpful to the city of New York if we had a super hero working for us instead of outside the law the way so many seem to do nowadays. And to top it off most of those who get super powers seem to turn into criminals. Take Doctor Octopus for instance."
"Dr. Octopus?"
"That's what Otto Octavius calls himself now. I understand you called yourself Stratostar."
"Yeah. That's the code name I'll be using. But I still want to go to college."
"Do you really think you could go to college the way you are now?"
"But I've always wanted to go to college!"
"Let me guess. You were a bookworm before all this happened?"
"I guess you could say that. I was up for several scholarships. But I'm even smarter now than I was before all this happened. Not only can I speed read, I can also memorize things as fast as I can see or hear them. That's not all I can..."
"Take it easy, son. If what you're saying is true I'm sure there's a university that will test you on that. If you can learn fast enough you can get a degree of some kind but I would like you to take classes in law enforcement. You becoming a police officer is what this city needs."
"I'll think about it."
"Hey, Captain!" a cop called out, opening the door, sticking her head inside. When she got a load of Peter wearing his silver, side baring tunic, she stared in admiration, her jaw dropping to the ground.
"What is it, Gina?"
"The perp's aunt and uncle are here. What do you want I should do with them?"
"Perp?!" Peter answered angrily.
"Just have them wait for a few more minutes."
"I didn't do anything!"
"Take is easy, son. That was just force of habit on her part. Now let's get back to the business at hand."
"Maybe we should bring my aunt and uncle in here so we can all discuss this."
"All right."

Doctor Octopus and his henchman flew in his sophisticated aircraft towards the Catskill Mountains, a natural area in New York State, northwest of New York City and southwest of Albany where there was a mature dissected plateau, an uplifted region that was subsequently eroded into sharp relief. There was nothing but green as they flew over forested and mountainous area.
"We're almost there, Boss."
"Good." In a few moments they came towards a medium sized mountain. But before the technologically advanced vehicle could crash a large bright portal appeared, allowing them to fly right through.
"It will take time for my plans to come to fruition when that happens i will rule the world!" Dr. Octopus exclaimed after getting of the flying van. "In the mean time we'll gather more henchmen together in order to gather more finances for my enterprises."
"Right, Boss."

Captain Stacy opened the door to his office and ushered May and Ben Parker in upon seeing them. "Now we need to talk about..."
"Peter!" Aunt May cried, rushing over towards her nephew. Then she noticed the change in him. The young man before her was much taller, more imposing and much more sure of himself, carrying himself with a sense of nobility, looking like a warrior with a great deal of experience despite his youth. He even gave the impression of being more intelligent. Peter's grace and agility reminded May of the way some of the martial arts masters she had seen carried themselves. And to top things off, he had silver colored hair, clothes and wings! After finally getting her composure she said, "what happened to you?!"
"It's a long story, Aunt May," Peter answered, hardly sounding like he did before this abrupt change.
"How about we come inside my office and talk about all this?" Captain Stacy offered.
As soon as they had gotten in the office and sat down, the police captain explained everything that had happened up to that point including the offer of making Peter a police officer.
"But how about his college?!" May stammered.
"We can work on that. If Peter is smart enough, we can accelerate his schooling as long as his course work includes law enforcement related classes."
"How long would all that take?" Ben asked.
"That depends how fast Peter can learn everything. My sources have told me he's a straight A student. The sooner we can get him into uniform the better."
"I don't like the idea of him fighting dangerous super villains. He should have a normal life like any teenage boy," Aunt May piped in.
"Take a good look at him, Mrs. Parker. He's not a normal boy, not by a long shot. He has a chance to do a lot of good for the city of New York instead of being regarded as a menace himself."
"What makes you think he'd be able to deal with criminals much less super villains?" May Parker asked with concern.
"We don't know exactly how powerful Peter is, but after a lot of tests and even more training we can determine what he can and can't do so what do you say?"
"If I can still get my college degree I'll do it."
"Peter! Do you know what you're saying?!" his aunt asked anxiously. "Even if you're working with law enforcement you would be still regarded as a freak! I don't know what I would tell my friends and neighbors."
"Tell them he's working for a better New York. This is very important, Mrs. Parker."
"May," Ben said gently, prompting his wife to turn to him. "Have you ever heard the saying, with great power comes great responsibility?"
"What does that have to do with anything?!"
"If Peter has become powerful enough he should do whatever he can to help. It would be better if he cooperates with the police."
"Now you're talking," the captain replied. "I have to make some more phone calls. But there won't be any problem..."
"We haven't said yes to anything yet!" Peter's aunt stammered.
"Aunt May, it's best this way," Peter interjected. "We can take all this on a day by day basis. If I get paid enough we will be able to pay off all our bills."
"That's true. In addition to getting to take free college classes, you'll be paid a great deal for your cooperation. There are several grants you would qualify for," Captain Stacy said as if winning the argument.
May Parker gave the police captain a serious look for a moment. "Well, I..."
Right at that moment, the door blew open abruptly to reveal a beautiful young woman impeccably dressed in a professional manner. She was tall with blond hair and a striking figure. Behind her were four men also well dressed in addition to wearing dark glasses, similar to what secret service agents would wear.
"While I respect what you've been trying to do, Captain Stacy," the woman said. "We're going to be training Mr. Parker in his new found abilities.
"We haven't even said yes to Captain Stacy yet!" May Parker explained.
"Who are you?!" the police officer demanded.
"I'm Valerie Cooper," the woman answered showing her credentials. "I work for the National Security Adviser, specializing in metahuman affairs."
"What does all that mean?" Ben asked.
"It means I'll be the one overseeing Peter's training and development."
"I don't know where you get off, lady, but..."
"Listen, Mrs. Parker. I have authority from the federal government. It would be too dangerous to let someone like Peter to go around doing whatever he pleased."
"So he has to be your slave?"
"No. We'll be doing all the things Captain Stacy was offering." Then she took a look at Peter. "You should take my offer seriously, Peter. Do you think that the N.Y.P.D. could protect your aunt and uncle from the super powered enemies you're sure to make?"
"Um."
"No! We don't trust you!" May snapped back. Then the strong willed woman walked over to Peter, looking him in the eye.
"The choice is really yours, Peter. If you want your family to be kept safe you'll go along with us. We can much better help you with your powers. We'll also pay you more than enough to pay your family's debt. Your country needs you, Peter."
"It would be better if I stayed in New York. This is where most of the super powered fights go on," Peter replied, surprising the woman with sense of seriousness.
"You can be based in New York but you'd be on call to go anywhere in the country. You'll have federalized police powers after your training's finished. We can even work on having you get your college degree."
"Captain Stacy's been very decent to me. I hate the idea of leaving him high and dry," the silver haired youth answered.
"This kid has developed an attachment to this police officer. But that won't be a problem." "No one is saying you can't work with him and the N.Y.P.D. You'd mostly be working for the U.S. government. Let's see how things go for a while."
"All right."

Over the next six months Peter went through countless tests and training exercises which he passed with flying colors. When some retired college professors gauged Peter's near genius intelligence backed up by speed reading, photographic memory and lightning calculator skills along with an ability to learn things quickly. These talents allowed him to take enough tutored classes to get a college degree in criminal law and several sciences in a few months. While this was going on he also extensively trained in the use of his powers surprising everyone including his FBI trainers who helped him to use his powers for law enforcement in a constructive manner.
By the time Peter had become eighteen next January, he had gotten his degree and graduated in a specialized crash course federal law academy. "All right, Peter. Now you're ready," Valerie Cooper said, regarding the newly appointed super hero.
"Is he going to wear that weird silver uniform?" one of Valerie's aides asked, standing a few feet away.
"Yes. His self made uniform is a whole lot better than anything we can come up with; it fits him like a glove and adapts to him perfectly."
"How is he going to carry his credentials with him, wearing something so skintight?"
"He has something he calls subspace where he can place stuff sort of like a magician.
"Isn't he young for a law enforcement officer, a federal one, no less?"
"The age minimum for a special job like this is 18. Besides, isn't better to have a freak working for us instead of against us for a change?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"You've been griping about costumed super villains for years. Now we have a super hero working for us. Look! Even the President has cosigned on this. I guess he wanted to put his hand in the mix as well."
"I suppose though. We'll see how things work out.
