Title: To Comfort You

Summary: This is a one-shot I came up with after watching “Officer Down” last night. Lilly is in the observation room crying and Scotty comes looking for her, can he provide the comfort she needs in this difficult time? And when is taking comfort too far?

Disclaimer: No I don’t own them or Succardo would not be in Lilly’s life…..Scotty would be more in her life.

Scotty had looked all over for Lilly. They were all supposed to meet at the hospital but she never showed and he was worried about her. Everyone had told him to just leave her alone but Scotty had never been that great at listening to everyone else. He needed to find Lilly. Suddenly he saw an officer coming from their office area. “Hey Lykins, you seen Rush?”

“Sure Valens, about 2 or 3 minutes ago she was going into Observation A. Hey how is Jeffries doing? I ask because she didn’t look so hot.”

“Jeffries is going to be okay. What do you mean that she didn’t look so hot?”

“Well you know Rush, she is one tough lady. But she looked like she was ready to cry or something, just not her style man.”

“Did you say anything to her?”

“I asked if she was okay and she nodded and then walked into the observation room.”

“Thanks man.” The officer nodded and walked on. Scotty knew that most of the young officers regarded Lilly with a respect unlike most detectives received, due to the fact she is the first lady of homicide and one of the best. Scotty walked to the observation room and then he heard the sounds of crying.

Lilly looked up when the door opened, she didn’t know how long she had been in there sitting on the floor. She hated to cry in front of people, but then she saw Scotty standing there. He sat down beside her.

“What are you doing here Scotty?”

“You didn’t show up at the hospital and I was worried about you.”

“Why are you worrying about me all the time?”

“You’re my best friend Lil, I worry about you. I know Will is your friend, known him for many years. I knew you were upset.”

“He is going to be okay though, right?”

“Yes he is. Vera is sleeping at his bedside.”

“They are partners, Vera is having a tough time with this.”

“I’m familiar okay Lil? I know what it’s like to sit there helpless because your partner is laying in that bed. I know what it’s like to want to sit there and just pray that your partner makes it. I know exactly what Vera is going through.”

She looked over at Scotty and then scooted closer but then he pulled Lilly up across his lap and held her close. “Tell me about it Scotty.”

“I don’t like to think about that time Lil. I almost lost you and I almost lost myself.”

“Please Scotty, tell me.”

“I sat by your bed until I knew you were going to be okay. My mom cleaned your blood off of my tie and shirt but they are in a bag, I can’t wear them again.” Then Lilly felt the tears hit her face as they left Scotty’s face. “I was so mad at the world then.”

“I remember what you were like when Elyssa died.”

“That was a childhood love Lil. When I thought I was losing you it was different. You taught me to be a better me, you saved me Lil and I let you down.”

She turned on his lap to face him and took his head her hands. “No Scotty, you saved my life. I just had to say ‘hey’ and you came like you said you would, with one word you saved my life.” She got up from his lap and put her hand out. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”

Scotty took her hand and stood up but he didn’t let go of her hand. He pulled her toward him and hugged her. “I’m glad you are still here with me Lil.”

“So want to hit a bar?”

“How about we go to my place for a beer?”

“Let’s stop and see Will and then go to your place for a beer or two.”

“We can go see Will tomorrow, visiting hours are over. I promise we can go tomorrow.”

“Okay. Will you tell me more about what happened with you when I got shot?”

“Sure Lil.”

They arrived at Scotty’s apartment. He told Lilly to go sit down and he got two beers and then joined her on the couch. She was sitting on his couch with her shoes off when he walked in the living room, he loved it that she felt so at home here. He handed her a beer and then sat down. He removed his jacket and tie and then leaned back on the couch beside her. She smiled. “Do you know how many partner rules we are breaking right now?”

“Do you know how many we would have already broken if I had my way?”

She looked at him and then smiled. “No tell me.”

“Well right now you are in my apartment with your shoes and jacket off so that has to be at least 3 rules, with my jacket, tie and shoes off that has to add about 3 more. Then if you were in my bed completely naked that would add at least 10 rules.”

Lilly laughed and hit his arm. “You are so full of shit Valens. Now talk to me about what you went through when I got shot. I need to understand it from where Vera is coming from.”

“I don’t know Lil, I can’t explain it. But I’m sure it’s different for Vera then it was for me. I’m almost certain he doesn’t love Will, sure they are friends but it’s different for us.”

“We are detective partners. How is it different?”

“I date to keep you out of my head because you don’t feel for me what I feel for you.”

“So you sleep around to keep me out of your bed?”

He smiled and nodded. “It sounds different when you say it.”

Lilly leaned over and kissed Scotty. “Let’s go break more rules Scotty.”

“How many?”

“Oh about 10 or so.”

“I just came there tonight to comfort you Lil, I knew you needed someone. I never planned to take you to bed.”

“You don’t want me there?”

“Oh I do but not just for comfort.”

She kissed him again and this time he grabbed her up in a searing kiss. “Then let’s make it for love Scotty.”

He stood up and held out his hand. “Let’s go break more rules then.”

Next Morning

Lilly woke up and realized it was not a dream. She was really in Scotty’s bed and she was naked. She smelled coffee and smelled food cooking. After going to the bathroom she found his shirt and slipped it on with her panties and then headed to the kitchen. When she entered the kitchen she saw Scotty at the stove in his pajama pants. “Hey tough guy.”

He turned and smiled. “Damn girl, my shirt looks good on you. Come here babe.”

She walked over and kissed him. “So is this a one night thing Scotty?”

“No Lil, it’s a forever thing.” Just then the door bell rang.

Lilly put her coffee down and started for the door. “I’ll get it.” She opened the door to her boss and Kat standing there. She smiled. “Guess I better get some clothes on, come on in.” She walked to the bedroom and let them go on in.

When they entered the kitchen. Scotty looked at them and smiled. “Guess I have some explaining to do?”

Stillman smiled. “No, we figured this has been going on for awhile now. Well at least since Succardo left or soon after.”

Scotty shook his head. “No, just last night. Help yourself to coffee and have a seat.” They looked at the door when Lilly came back in and she had put on Scotty’s shorts.

She walked over to Scotty. “Can I help you?”

“No sweetheart, have a seat.” So she joined Kat and Stillman at the table.

“So some reason the two of you came to visit Scotty so early on a Saturday morning?”

Stillman nodded. “Looking for you. We were worried about you and tried your home. Scotty went looking for you last night so we figured we could try him to see if he found you.”

She smiled. “He did. Listen Boss, I know this is breaking so many rules.”

“Yes, it is but hey I didn’t see anything. I have no clear evidence, for all I know you came for breakfast and spilled coffee on your clothes so you had to change.”

After break fast they all agreed to meet at the hospital. When Stillman and Kat left, Scotty smiled at Lil. “That spook you enough to run off from me?”

She pulled at his hand. “Let’s go shower.”

“I want an answer Lil.”

She kissed him. “I love you Scotty. There is your answer.”

He laughed. “Remind me to comfort you more often Lil.”
