Elizabeth looked at herself in the mirror; partially satisfied with the results. She hoped Rodney will like it, since she did this for him, in hopes to get his attention. She couldn't wait to show him. She fluffed her hair a bit before making her way out of her living quarters to go catch up with him and she hoped the rest of his team in the commissary for breakfast.
On her way there, she was stopped by Carson, who told her how pretty she looked and that Rodney would be fool not to notice her. She blushed and thanked him before bidding him farewell and continued to her destination.
She entered the commissary and received quite a few stares from the males and smiles from her fellow females. She smiled a little in return, but there was only one male she wanted staring and smiling at her. She blushed even more at the thought of him gaping at her then smiling and then lay on the charms. At least, that's what she was counting on. She moved with the line filling her tray before beginning her search for Rodney and his team.
She spotted them, minus Ronan at a table near the windows and made her way over to them. Sheppard and Rodney were bantering with each other as usual and didn't seem to notice her presence until Teyla offered her to sit with them. She pulled up a chair and joined them, she looked up from her tray when no one said anything to see a surprised expression on John's face, but Rodney looked at her as if she's grown two heads.
“Elizabeth, what in god's name did you do to your hair?”
She looked away at his outburst, which wasn't what she expected at all, quite the opposite in fact. She tucked some of her hair behind her ear as she turned her attention back to him and explained, “Oh, well, I was getting tired of the old color and thought it was time for a change.” she paused trying her best to look innocent . “Don't you like it?”
“It's hideous! Ow! What was that for?” he jumped and glared at Sheppard who had kicked him underneath the table.
“Don't listen to him Elizabeth. I think it looks great on you. Really brings out your eyes.”
She smiled at Sheppard's attempt to cheer her up.
“I agree Doctor Weir. You look lovely.”
She nodded her thanks losing her desire to smile. She so wanted Rodney's approval, but now he won't even look at her. Her eyes fell, suddenly she wasn't hungry and she wanted to be alone. She excused herself from the table.
Once she was gone, Sheppard knocked Rodney upside the head.
“You can be such an ass sometimes McKay,” he chided earning him a glare from the other man. “Can't you see she's only doing this to get your attention?”
Rodney sighed playing with his food grumbling, “I liked her better before. If she wanted my attention, all she had to do was ask for it. She didn't have to go blond to get it. It's not her.”
“Well maybe she thought you only like blonds because you seem to go after them more,” Sheppard retorted. “You hurt her feelings Rodney, I think you should go apologize and tell her what you told me.”
Rodney only nodded pushing his plate away and stood, “You're right. See you guys later.” He waved them bye and began his search for Elizabeth.
He found her in her office looking down at her computer with a frown on her lips. His heart wrenched painfully knowing he'd put it there. Sheppard was right, “I can be such an ass sometimes.”' He leaned against the doorway and took a moment to observe her.
As much as he wanted to say how much he liked her new hair, he couldn't. Though it was kinda cute. It just wasn't her. He was flattered though that she would go to such lengths to try and get him to notice her. The truth was, he noticed her a long time ago. He couldn't exactly say when, but it was true. She already had his attention. He just didn't think she wanted it until now. She hid her feelings quite well.
She looked up, her eyes widening. “Rodney? How long have you been standing there?” He smiled making his way up to her and leaned against her desk.
“Not long,” he assured her noticing how she tried to avoid direct eye contact. He sighed and tried to apologize, “Elizabeth, I'm sorry. How I reacted was rude and uncalled for. It's just,” here he paused and reached out a hand to twirl a lock of golden blond hair between his fingers. “Lizabeth, you know this isn't you. If you wanted my attention all you had to do was ask.” Her eyes brightened at this and it warmed his heart that he was cheering her up.
“You mean it? You like me as more than a friend?”
He leaned forward and kissed her fully on the mouth to prove it. He pulled back to see her reaction and he swore he's never seen her look so happy. He hoped to keep on making her happy and brought their foreheads together smoothing her hair.
“Not like Elizabeth. Love. I love you so much. I have for awhile. I just didn't have enough courage to say it until now,” he poured his heart out pulling back a little to see her smiling green eyes boring into blue ones.
“I love you too Rodney! So much,” It was her turn to initiate the kiss and Rodney couldn't wait for more to follow.
