A/N: After a while of thought, I decided it would be fun to write another chapter for In A Pig's Eye. So, here it is. Chapter 2. Enjoy! :) I am hoping to include more chapters beyond this, hopefully incorporating the whole main crew.

I still do not own Star Trek. If I did, I would probably be a lot older…

In Which Uhura and Bones Make a Plan

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura was hardly ever sick, so she was a rare sight in the sickbay. That's why Bones was more than a little surprised when she strode through the sliding doors with an exasperated look on her face. She stood in front of the Doctor's desk and put her hands on her hips. "Please tell me you've noticed."

Bones scanned Uhura up and down, trying to notice any differences that she might have been trying to flaunt. Her hair looked the same as it always had, her weight seemed to remain unchanged, and her uniform was still as bright red as the day she had first put it on. Feeling slightly stupid, he asked, "Noticed what?"

Uhura had noticed the Doctor's glance. "Nothing's changed with me, Doctor. I'm talking about the Captain and Mr. Spock." Her voice dropped. "Have you noticed the looks they give each other, Doctor? Please tell me I'm not the only one that notices them."

"Of course I see the looks," Bones barked in his gruff voice. "All the time, too. If they don't realize their feelings sooner or later, I swear I'm going to inject them both with something really powerful…" the glint in his eyes assured Uhura that his threat was not empty.

"Well, we have to do something about it, then," she said. "The longer they sit around without a single clue as to how the other feels about them, the worse it is. Well, for me, at least. And I thought Spock was smart."

"Spock is smart in different ways," Bones explained. "He's logical; he hasn't got any relationship smarts. He's a Vulcan! Green blooded hobgoblin…" he started to trail off, but he recovered as he caught Uhura's warning glare. "What do you suggest we do about it?"

Uhura sat down, tapping a long fingernail against her scalp. "I don't know, Doctor. That's why I came to you."

Bones was shocked. "And what makes you think that I have any ideas? I don't sit around fantasizing and gossiping to myself like a teenage girl!"

Rolling her eyes, Uhura leaned forward on the desk. "Well, Doctor, I suppose it's time that you start doing so. If you want to get Mr. Spock and the Captain together, it's going to take some careful thought."

Sighing, Bones obliged. "Well, do you have any ideas at all?"

"Maybe we should just be blunt with them," the Lieutenant suggested. "No use beating around the bush, is there?"

"It won't work."

Uhura's eyebrows rose. "What are you talking about?"

"Jim is too dense," Bones huffed. "And Mr. Spock will disregard the situation as illogical. If we tell them, they'll just shrug it off and deny it. We need a flawless plan."

"Well, Doctor Know-It-All, I suppose you have a flawless plan all whipped up." A smirk crawled onto Uhura's face. "Let's hear it, then."

Bones thought carefully for a moment. "We've got to let them find out of their own accord," he told Uhura. "We could always… help speed up the process, but the discovery of their mutual feelings is up to them." He shrugged lightly. "I always watch for signs of emotion when Mr. Spock and Jim are together, and I've noticed quite a few outbursts." He smiled, remembering Spock's overt joy after his return from Vulcan on the day of Pon Farr, when he discovered that Jim was in fact alive, not dead as he had previously assumed.

"So you do have a few tricks up your sleeve," Uhura chuckled. "Okay, Doctor. How do you suggest we help them along?"

McCoy's eyes brightened. "I can think of one way…"

"Bones, I can assure you that I'm perfectly fine after the injection you gave me yesterday." James Tiberius Kirk found himself once again seated in Bones's sickbay, watching as the Doctor rummaged around the shelves for the correct vial of medicine. The hypodermic needle lay shiny and sharp on the countertop, ready for its next victim- Captain Kirk.

First Officer Spock stood by, his steely eyes staring at Bones. "I agree, Doctor," he said flatly. "I think this injection is unnecessary."

McCoy turned from the shelf and glanced quizzically at Spock. "I'm the Chief Medical Officer aboard this spacecraft, Mr. Spock. I think I know what is necessary for my patients. The injection that I gave Jim yesterday was only a boost of energy to get him restarted, but this one will slow the sickness and make sure that it doesn't come back." He continued peeking around before his hand grasped the one he wanted. Perfect. A neuroparalyzer, just like the one I used on Jim down on Vulcan. He just needs a larger dose so that it will work faster. He emptied the entire vial into the needle, and poised it at Jim's neck. The plan was working so far.

The Captain gave a violent jerk as the needle's contents seeped into his body. He writhed for a moment, and then went completely still. Spock's eyebrows raised in confusion. "Doctor, what has happened? Jim?" He shook the Captain's shoulder.

"Blast!" McCoy faked anger. "I must have picked the wrong fluid. How could I have been so stupid? It's all wrong!" This is going splendidly.

"Doctor, I thought you knew what you were doing," Spock said. He was obviously trying to remain calm, but Bones saw anger rush across the First Officer's features. "What has happened to him? Is he dead?"

Bones glanced around wildly. "First I have to find out what it is I injected," he claimed. Liar. You know exactly what you injected. "Let me check the vial. It might have had a similar name or label to the one I was looking for." He reached for it, but it was of little use. His fingertips brushed it off the table, the glass shattering on the floor. Bones hopped back. "Damn!" Tiny shards of glass glittered on the floor like spilled diamonds.

The doctor looked over at Spock, who had inched closer to Jim's chair. "Mr. Spock, I assure you that I have nothing in this sickbay that would kill a man… at least not in small doses." It took all his willpower not to smirk as he saw terror glow behind Spock's eyes. The First Officer edged even farther towards Captain Kirk, finally placing a hand on the chair and staring down at Jim, his facial features drooping slightly. Bones was taken aback at the sudden emotion that Spock was showing. However, he was pleased with his results. He sighed and exited the sickbay, leaving Spock and Kirk behind. He needed to inform Uhura of his current endeavors…

"Ugh… Spock? Bones?" Jim's voice slipped past his lips, his eyes fluttering open. "How long have I been asleep?"

Spock was still standing by the chair. "Jim!" A hint of a smile showed on his face and he tried to hide it, but Bones, who had reentered the room by now, still noticed. The Doctor smirked.

"You've been out for a little over an hour," he said. "I'm sorry, Jim. I must have given you an overdose of a different medicine that knocked you out. I feel like a fool now. If I had given you any more, it might have killed you."

Again, he watched for Spock's expression. The First Officer was glancing down at Jim, his concern obvious. "I waited by your chair for the entire hour," he informed the Captain. "I was afraid that you were dead. Well, concerned, rather. If you had been dead, it would have been a disaster for our ship." He placed his hands behind his back. "It's pleasing to see that you are awake once more. Would you like to return to the bridge?"

"At once," Kirk ordered. "I'm afraid I'm not in the mood for any more shots, Doctor McCoy. You'll have to give me that extra shot some other time."

"Oh no," Bones said. "It's quite all right. You're looking fine. Perhaps you don't need that injection anyway." He walked out of the sickbay, a smile spread across his face.

Uhura would be proud.
