Aftermath
“Bronte? Bronte?”
“I don' wanna go ta school today, mum!” I mumbled, turning away.
“Spurge!”
My eyes shot open. That wasn't my mum's voice. I looked up, and was met by Jack and Arabella's worried faces.
“Oh, it's just you,” I said, sitting up and rubbing my head.
“Oh my stars!” Arabella exclaimed, before embracing me in a hug. “We though ye were done for!”
It had stopped raining, and everyone was alive. Besides Torn Pants, of course.
“I'm guessing we won, then?” I said.
“Barely,” Jean said.
“Why did you do that, Spurge?” Jack asked. “You could have died, trying to save me.”
“Because that's what friends do,” I said. “Look out for each other.”
“Well...thanks,” Jack said, smiling.
I noticed the Trident in his hand, and smiled back.
“Blasted Pirate Code,” Laura muttered, sitting up.
“No Pirate Code applies to me,” Jack said. “Not a Pirate here.”
“No, you're not...not yet, anyway,” Laura said.
We all hurried over to the side of the ship, and saw the merfolk waiting.
“Mr Reece, furl the sails,” Laura ordered.
The sails were furled, and when the merfolk saw Jack with the Trident, they all cheered. Jack waved the Trident around, smiling.
“Whoo-ho!” I cheered, before turning to Arabella. “I still think he's kinda a show off!”
“Well then, I still think he's kinda cute!” Arabella said.
I gave her a playful nudge.
“Seriously, now,” Jack whispered to us, after some of the winged merfolk had landed on deck, “what about those mermaids of legend? With the pretty, and the porcelain, and, the most important bit?”
He made a feminine gesture with his hands.
“Jack!” Arabella snapped. “Maybe they think ye're ugly!”
“At least I don't stink,” Jack said, before sniffing under his arm pits. “Much.”
Arabella smiled, before giving him a playful punch.
“All right then,” Jack said to the merfolk, “since I'm King, I proclaim that you are all free to go and do what you please!”
“I am afraid that is not possible, sire,” one said, leaping forwards.
He looked like a more traditional merman, and had a Purple Tail.
“I am called Tonra, my lord,” he said.
“Does that mean you're now called a lady, Arabella?” I asked her.
She just ignored me.
“What exactly do you mean, 'impossible'?” Jack asked.
“I shall show you,” Tonra said, motioning to the water beside him.
“You want me to go down there?” Jack asked.
“Oh, go on, your people want you,” Laura said, before kicking Jack right off the deck and into the water.
“Mother!” Arabella shouted.
“That's now the second person you've done that to!” I added.
“All right, let's set sail immediately!” Laura ordered.
No one moved. Not even Mr Reece. Laura sighed.
“Oh, all right, we'll wait for young Master Sparrow!” she said.
Arabella smiled.
Some time later, Jack popped up out of the water. Billy dropped down a rope ladder and let Jack up. When Jack came aboard, I gave him a friendly punch.
“Welcome back, Jack!” I said.
Arabella embraced him in a hug. Laura fumed, but said nothing.
“Do ye have something to say, mum?” Arabella asked.
Laura sighed.
“Thank you...er...for saving my life,” she said. “And my daughter's, on a couple of occasions.”
“Why, it was no problem at all, Laura...” Jack began.
“But don't ever expect me to repay the favour!” she finished.
Mr Reece sighed.
“She asks if you and your crew would like to join her crew?” he asked.
Jack turned to me and Arabella. We both just shrugged.
“OK, we're in agreement,” Jack said.
Laura nodded, before turning to the others.
“Billy, batten down those barrels over there!” she ordered. “Jean and Tumen, unfurl the sails; make us invisible! I want us out of here as quickly as possible!”
While everyone hurried away, I watched Jack stand out over the bow. Arabella stood next to him, her hand holding his arm. I smiled. Best to leave them alone, for now.
Suddenly, a piece of paper dropped out of the sky and landed on my head, before falling to the floor. I reached down and picked it up, before unfolding it. There was a message written on it.
Oh, and by the way, if you change the story, you're stuck here forever. Did I forget to tell you that?
R.K.
I screwed the bit of paper up.
“Oh, NOW he tells me!” I said, throwing the paper over the side. “Rob Kidd is the worst genie ever!”
Jack and Arabella turned to look at me.
“What?” they asked.
“Oh, my genie has just informed me that I will now be staying here for the rest of my life!” I said, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Don't tell me you're staying?” Jack said, annoyed.
I glared at him.
“And by that I mean; don't tell me, you're staying?” he said, pretending to be happy.
I just gave him a playful nudge.
“But are ye sure ye don't want to go back to...wherever ye came from?” Arabella asked.
I turned away, thinking about it.
“Yep!” I answered.
Arabella smirked, before we all turned to watch the sunset.
It was the boldest horizon I had ever seen.
Sorry, I just had to end it with that line! It wouldn't be the same, otherwise! Anyway, thanks to all who have reviewed! It almost made it to 200! Whoo-ho!
OK, there will be a sequel, where it's me in the Legends books, but I won't be writing it yet. I'm waiting for the fifth book to come out before I do. And I heard that it comes out in November, so the wait isn't very long. But I do have other stories for you all to read! One POTC story, called 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: Water Of Life', and a Horton Hears A Who story. And another few Sparrabella stories should be uploaded shortly, so keep an eye out!
Once again, thanks for reading and reviewing!
