A/N: So I totally know that someone else did something like this a while back, but I thought it was such a cool idea, so I’m borrowing it. Hope no one minds. :) And kudos to whoever thought of this first, it’s super fun.

Anyway, I basically put my Ipod on shuffle, and voila. I tried to write a little fic for every song that came up, but… some songs would have been pretty hard or I was feeling uninspired, so I skipped those. Hehehe. Some of the stories are better than others, but that’s how it is. Also, some are more loosely based around the song than others, but, again, that’s just how things worked out. Some follow the JAG canon, others are AU. If I do anymore, I’ll prolly add them on to this story as a new chapter, FYI.

If there is any specific snippet that you would like to see expanded on in a full story, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do!

Also, for those of you following my main story, Christmas Child, don’t kill me, I just had to take a break, because of writer’s block. But it will be continued! You won’t be left hanging, in fact you can expect an update in the next few days, maybe over the weekend.

Spoilers: Um, this really jumps around, so, anything could be spoiled… or not. Just sayin’, you’ve been warned.

Disclaimer: I do not own JAG, any characters, etc. No profit is being made of off this endeavor, and is purely for fun.

Typos are mine.

Enjoy!

Everything Is Fine by Josh Turner

The warm, summer sun beat down on Harm as he flipped burgers on the grill. A loud giggle made him look across the yard where he saw his little boy being chased through a sprinkler by Mac. His Mac. Harm saw Mac reach the little boy and scoop him up into her arms, causing the boy to laugh even harder. He looked back down at the grill only long enough to transfer the now-cooked burgers onto a plate. Before announcing to his family that lunch was ready, he took a few more minutes to simply watch them. He smiled, knowing that everything was just fine.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head by Coldplay

She knew it was stupid. He would think she was a fool. But she didn’t care. She had to do it, because it was the most perfectly, imperfect thing to do. She had driven by only once or twice before, but she loved it from the beginning. When she saw the ‘for sale’ sign in the front yard, she called the number, she set up the appointments, figured out the numbers, signed all the papers. Now she sat in the empty, front room of the big house wondering what to do next. Sarah Mackenzie laughed to herself and pulled out her cell phone to dial the number she knew so well. She would just blame it on a rush of blood to the head.

The Heart Of Life by John Mayer

Harm wrapped Mac into a strong embrace and held her as silent tears streamed down her face. He had heard just enough of the story to know the only thing he could do for her was to be her friend. Still though, he wanted to do more. He wanted to kill all the stupid men that ever broke her heart. He wanted to promise her that nothing would ever hurt this much again. But he couldn’t, and he knew it. The only thing he could do was help her through the rough patches just like she helped him. He had to make sure she knew that there was an up to every down, and that he would be there for her through everything.

This is The Life by Amy MacDonald

Young Sarah Mackenzie glanced eagerly around the dimly lit club. She saw who she was looking for and made her way across the dance floor, her heart beating to the rhythm of the music that played. She wrapped her arms around the neck of the young man. Their foreheads touched lightly together as the man whipped them around in disorienting circles. His hands roamed over places of her body that they probably shouldn’t have. This only made her heart beat faster. Her laughs and shrieks were lost among the other noises of the club. Her head spun and her limbs were tingling from one too many drinks, but she didn’t care. She didn’t care about tomorrow or the next day, she wanted to have fun now.

I’ll Believe You When by Matchbox Twenty

Mac walked away from Webb for hopefully the last time. She laughed to herself as she climbed into her car without a second glance back at the distraught man she left standing alone. She was happy to have rid herself of him. Sure, he promised her the moon. He told her that he would make it better for her. Did that happen? Of course not. Nothing Clayton Webb ever said was true. Presents every day. Sure. From his secretary. Frankfurt? Ha! That was some joke. What about his death? She couldn’t even believe that. How could she be with a man like that? Everything he said just turned out wrong. With a sly smile, she stepped on the gas pedal of her car, accelerating down the street, accelerating away from that chapter of her life, and towards a new one with a dependable man and a sturdier foundation.

Take A Chance On Me by ABBA

Harm took a deep breath and knocked on his best friend’s door. Before coming here, he wasn’t doing anything except sitting in his apartment listening to the radio. That was when he heard the song that brought him here. The song was too perfect to just ignore. He knew the lyrics were meant for him and Mac. As he waited for her to answer the door, he chuckled to himself. Wouldn’t it be funny if a pop song from the 70s changed his life? That’s the kind of thing that happened only in movies. But still, he had to try. After an eternity of waiting, it seemed, the door swung open to reveal a confused Mac. Harm smiled nervously and said, “Take a chance on me?”

Show Me What I’m Looking For by Carolina Liar

Mac threw her purse into the corner of the room as soon as she entered her apartment. She was so tired of always fighting life. She kicked her heels off and went to the kitchen to make some tea before collapsing into the couch. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Why did life have to be so confusing? Constantly questioning her actions and desires had become a habit that was proving hard to break. She had managed to confuse herself so much, that she wasn’t even sure what she wanted anymore. Things should just be simple, she decided. It would make life much more easy, and there would be fewer problems with the world. Hearing the tea kettle whistle, she groaned and got up from the couch. Why couldn’t there be some magical force that just came out and told you exactly what you wanted and needed to do? Things would be a helluva lot simpler.

Slow Dancing In A Burning Room by John Mayer

Mic looked across the table at his fiancée. Sarah smiled at him as she took a bite of the dinner he had made. She was everything he ever wanted, but something was off. It just never felt right between them, like they weren’t on the same page. He always thought he was with her on borrowed time, and sensed that things would never work out between them. Just then, the realization hit him hard. They would have no future. Sarah Mackenzie was never really his. All the time they spent together, really, meant nothing. He thought he could love her enough to make her love him back. It wasn’t enough. What they needed wasn’t there. “Luv,” he said softly to her, “Do you ever feel like we are slow dancing in a burning room?”

Things That Never Cross A Man’s Mind by Kellie Pickler

I laugh one of those ‘Icantbelievethis’ laughs and slam my office door in Harm’s face. Sure, it was probably rude, but he deserved it. Although, it wasn’t really his fault, being a man and all. They just never seem to understand anything. Take last night, for instance. He wanted to go out, I wanted to stay in and watch a movie or something. I won, eventually, like I always do, but I decided to be nice and let him pick the movie. That was a mistake. Because, of course he didn’t pick the cutesy little chick flick. He picked that stupid movie with too much violence. Okay. So, maybe some of the car chases were pretty cool, and let’s admit it, who doesn’t like to see those sexy movie stars whip out a gun. He asked me afterwards if I enjoyed the movie. I told him the truth. He said he thought I’d like it, cuz I’m a marine and all. True, but I’m also a woman, and women don’t always like all the blood and guts. Anyway, the whole thing, not a big deal. I’m glad he liked the movie. But today. Today, mister, he messed up. I guess he didn’t think I would hear that ‘laying off the beltway burger’ remark that he muttered under his breath. Give me a break. I look up from my desk over to his office. He is laughing with Bud at something or another. I roll my eyes. Men.

How Far We’ve Come by Matchbox Twenty

I walk through the bullpen at JAG on my way to Mac’s office. Hearing the reporter’s words, I pause and look up at one of the TVs tuned to ZNN. I shake my head in dismay as I watch the latest reports of the war. It’s such a shame. More casualties, more death. For both sides. You can’t even flip through the first few pages of the newspaper without seeing a story about truly terrible things. It’s depressing, the state of the world. In many ways, humans have advanced tremendously since the days we drug our knuckles on the ground, but, in other ways, we haven’t. What makes us human is the same thing that makes us so inhuman. It gets me thinking, if the world were to end tomorrow, today, even, what have we, as the human race, really accomplished to change our world, to better our presence on the Earth. Not much, I realize. I frown and look down at the file in my hand. A murder case. I sigh. It’s a damn shame.

Soulmate by Josh Turner

They were just in that little bar in the middle of nowhere to waste time until the next morning, when they would continue their trip across the states for a TAD assignment. When the song came through the speakers above and drifted to their ears, they looked into each other’s eyes, knowing exactly what their partner was thinking. Harm smiled first, and reached across the table for Mac’s hand. Taking it in his, he stood up from the table and led her to the dance floor where he gracefully pulled her in for a slow dance. At first, Mac tensed up at the slight awkwardness of the situation, but soon let herself relax into Harm’s arms. Together, they floated around the dance floor, feeling completely at ease and at home.

Homewrecker by Gretchen Wilson

I scan the woman up and down with my eyes, and frown disgustedly to myself. I dislike that woman more each time I see her. Renee Peterson. I groan as she giggles lightly with Harm in his office. She has some nerve, butting into our lives like that and disrupting everything that Harm and I share. I look down at the ring that is still on my right hand. Okay, so maybe I helped a little. But, I know I can’t just sit by and watch as she takes him from me. Not that he was ever mine. Now or never, I decide. Still giving Renee my best death glare (unbeknownst to her, of course), I twist the ring on my finger until it comes off. I quickly shove it into a desk drawer. I’ll have to deal with that mess later. But right now, it is time to mark my territory, so to speak. I stand up from my desk and smooth out my skirt before proceeding to Harm’s office. I knock lightly on his door, smiling sweetly at him. He motions me in. The woman looks at me with an ever-so-slight jealous expression So far so good. “Harm,” I say, walking closer to him, “I need some help with something. It can’t exactly wait. The admiral needs it yesterday.” None of that was a lie, for your information, just a stretch of the truth. Without hesitation, he apologizes quickly to Renee and goes with me to my office. On my way out, I glare at Renee, making sure she saw the look I gave her. From the shocked expression on her face, I’d say mission accomplished.

Her Diamonds by Rob Thomas

I walk cautiously back into the bedroom with a heating pad for Mac. She is lying face up on the bed. Her eyes are closed. I watch her for a few minutes in silence. But when she looks up at me, I approach. I plug the heating pad into an outlet, and slip it under Mac’s lower back. She attempts a smile, but otherwise shows no response. I sink down onto the edge of the bed by her feet. I look down ant my hands and I try to think of something else I can do for her. Endometriosis was really playing hell with her. Especially the past few months since we started to try to fulfill our baby deal. We have good days and bad days. Today was a bad day. Our latest attempt was apparently unsuccessful, as Mac discovered earlier, and she is in a lot of pain. We both know it’ll be better tomorrow, but tonight, it hurts in every way. I look over my shoulder and I see tears silently running down her cheek. I snap my head around quickly when I feel tears pricking at my own eyes. She can’t see me cry. I sniff my nose. “Harm?” She calls my name. Damn, she heard me. I twist to look at her. She frowns and opens her arm up, motioning for me to lay next to her. I give a small smile and fall back gently on the bed into her arms. I wrap an arm around her, and she does the same. With her head buried in my chest, things feel slightly better. We’ll be alright.
