Please read this note from the author, some facts are important, but not all of them.

Congratulations dear reader! You’ve stumbled upon the teaser for my current project in development Naruto: Legend of the Thunder-child. There are a lot of things going on with this plot that I’ve yet to sort out into an actual er…story. However, I have managed to find inspiration to construct a lovely little back-story for you. It’s mainly part of a legend that the story is actually about, but it’s quite interesting and adds to the feel/depth of this Naruto fic. Is there a major connection to the plot? Not completely certain, the plot will revolve (possibly in first person) around Kakashi, a couple of OC’s (three in total) and the problems that a shin obi faces when being bonded with a spirit or a bijuu. That’s right OR bijuu! As in, there’s some new spirits in this story! Please note that while cannonly this fic happens just around the time where Lady Tsunade becomes hokage, that this is an AU Naruto fiction. Please also note that all cannalogical arches’ (The bridge builder, Sauske running off, chunin exams etc) previous to the time that Tsunade becomes the fifth hokage HAVE happened, it is also critically important to know that all events afterward (starting from just after she actually accepts being Hokage and starts doing this duty and onward) in the cannon series have not happened yet. I am currently researching one of my oldest fandoms(AKA Naruto) heavily and with a critical eye, in an effort to both make a better story and to avoid any…well…to be quite honest, complaints about tiny details such as(but not limited to) improper : The War between the Spirits

Naruto: Legend of the Thunder-child

Many years ago, a great many years ago, before even the first hokage of the first Shinobi village and even before that village was built. The world was at war, not between the humans and the spirits, but indeed the spirits themselves, as one such battle rages on, the all-seeing eyes of heaven are not pleased with such actions.

“Hehehe, common Tigera! You’re gonna have to do better than that to get me down, Phoenix fire Jutsu!” The Large, half phoenix spirit forged of flames chimed in excitement as she retreated from a mountain-sized tiger beast.

The spirit formed not a single handsign as several giant, flaming Kunai were went toward her opponent, now giving chase to her in a game of tag rather than a battle. The environment around these large god-like beings was punished enough through most of their bout. The forest was burning down, the clouds were raging with thunderstorms, and the lakes were beginning to fill with electricity.

“God-dangit! Ya’ll better cool it woman, yer gonna wake up Sasumaru an get her all bitter! Hmph, I’ll teach ya’ll to underestimate me! Lightning style, Tiger’s rage!” Tigera snapped sharply as it stood on it’s hind legs and grasped it’s two, appropriately sized staffs with it’s front paws.

As Tigera launched several massive blasts of lightning at the fire spirit. She of course deflected them with blasts of her own, forged of flames. When she deflected one of the bolts, it shot directly into the nearby shore waters. At this point, the waves roared with rage, and formed an equally large woman with four arms and…well, lovely curves.

“Pyra you stupid bird! How many times do I have to tell you, NEVER play tag near the ocean! I have thousands of creatures to watch over here, and you’re distracting me.” Sasumaru shouted angrily as she forged a few weapons of her own out of ice.

Of course, yet another one of the excited spirits appeared on the scene, this time as a slender woman with light blue skin, also at a godly size. She cocked her hips to the side and snapped her fingers, the two blades of ice in Sasumaru’s hands melted instantly.

“Ugh! There you go confusing MY element with yours cousin! I swear, how am I supposed to spy on the hunky humans below if you’re bothering to make it cold where it shouldn’t be!” She shouted in frustration with a yawn as the environment became even more unstable.

“Oh shut it Sis, you’re just jealous cause you actually look a whoooole lot like one of the silly humans! I bet that’s why you’re so cranky all the time!” Pyra chimed with a devious laugh tossing a fireball at the Ice spirit.

Yet another woman formed from the winds, standing on a high mountaintop accompanied by a man who looked half ape, formed from what appeared to be light.

“Will you four settle down, you’re causing more chaos than that silly fox does now and again! I wouldn’t be surprised if the chief showed up and was very cross with all of you. Let alone the great one, of whom I’m sure you all forgot was watching us!” The woman groaned with annoyance and as a motherly glare pierced into the others with an all too frightening effect, all but one of course.

“Oh…the oh so wise Azukai has graced us with her presence. Hmph! Teachers pet!” Sasumaru chimed sarcastically as she put her lower hands on her hips.

Many such battles and childish fights happened, and many of them caused the elements involved to go wild in the area around them. The spirits never meant any harm, it was in their nature due to being created and grouped as a family, a family of guardians. Each of the eight spirits had their own form of dispute at one point, at times these disputes turned into all out wars, and as the environment, neigh the planet itself cried out for aid. The group was at last intervened at last, when the humans had finally had enough of their protective god’s silly disputes.

“Shuuuut uppppppp! You Nature Guardians have been acting like foolish humans for far too long. You’re all gonna get in trouble for that, besides…you all are going to wake up Shiukaku and the Ninetailed fox if you keep this nonsense up!” A rather large, orange toad with an appropriately large pipe and sword in a Kimono shouted loudly as it appeared from the distance and a large cloud of smoke.

Pyra, the guardian of fire immediately went on the defensive. While she normally took the blame for everything, when the chief was involved, she passed the buck quite readily. Of course, a few of the other spirits were a bit defensive about themselves and their purpose for fighting.

“What do you mean you silly old toad! It was Celicus’s idea to have a jutsu fight with me and Tigera!” Pyra chimed with a smirk as she stuck her tongue out at the ice spirit.

“Huh, what the hell are you pinning this on me for?! It was Tigera’s idea to have the fight here!” Celicus shouted with frustration, as she acted innocent as she always did.

“Fools! Have you no honor, show some respect in front of Gabuna-Ginta the chief toad. He has been summoned here for something important if I’m not mistaken?” Azukai responded firmly as she appeared and lightly slapped the two girls across the face.

The toad groaned and rolled it’s eyes as the wind spirit appeared to defend it. It wasn’t that big of a deal when he showed up when it came to the spirits, but when humans summoned him, it was another matter.

“Well lemme see here, yeah…three stages, merging with humans…hmph I get where this’s going. Alright you Nature Guardians, all of you get your butts over here at once got it?” The chief toad stated with an authoritive tone as it rolled out a large scroll, well large for spirits at least.

Once all Eight of the spirits known as Nature Guardians were present, the chief looked at them all thoroughly. He inspected each of their personality traits and their hearts. Unfortunately, for this rambunctious group of spirits, their behavior wasn’t going to change at all.

“Alright listen up all of you! The creator’s written a new law for you eight, actually a few new laws. And if you don’t follow them correctly and to a t…well it’s buh-by god status!” The Chief Toad told them with all the seriousness he could muster.

“What…oh nooooo I don’t wanna be human again, being human is soooo boring! Wait…new law…oh yay! I love new rules! Comon tell me, tell me, tell me!” Pyra chimed excitedly as if she were a child once more.

Yes, indeed these nature guardians were once humans, just as you or your neighbor would be. Many years before even these events, the elements of nature were beginning to have a mind of their own. Floods raised in dry lands, Snowstorms happened in deserts for months, temperatures soared and winds blew recklessly where they didn’t need to. Seeing that these patterns were catastrophic to the humans below. The great one above saw fit to create eight spirits, one for each element in nature. He charged each chosen human and gave them mighty power over said element; they took on godly forms and at first took to their responsibilities well.

“Quit whining and maybe I will tell you! Hmm, it says here that you all are being downgraded two stages from your current level. You must find a vessel, then teach them everything you know and learn from them in the process. Once you learn and grow on the inside so too will your power. Once the human who has challenged and defeated you dies, you are to return to your first stage and your shrine until another vessel comes to prove themselves worthy.” Chief Toad explained with not one ounce of regret in his tone as it vanished.

“Oh neat! I’ve always wondered what they look like on the inside!” Pyra chimed with excitement before bolting to her shrine.

While most of the spirits were thrilled about these changes, such as the phoenix named Pyra. Others began to dislike the thought of it over time, the ones whom were forced into their predicament, Shiukaku, the Ninetailed fox, and seven others were such spirits. They came to be known as bijous, living manifestations of evil who ravaged the lands and attacked many people, killing or gravely wounding many each time they got a chance to escape from their spiritualist mediums. Many of the Nature guardians sought only to bond with those who held the same gender to their personality and chosen physical appearance. Some however were not quite as lucky, Tigera in one such case, had a few slight issues with a more recent vessel.

“Tigera…please…don’t leave me…I--I’m not dying I promise you!” A critically injured Jonin girl pleaded desperately to her only friend, the thunder spirit.

Around her, many enemy Shinobi lie on the ground around her as one who was still half-alive rushed toward her. He rammed a Kunai into her shoulder before finally being taken down.

“Hehe…s--so much…f--for…the…all-mighty…thunder breaker…the pride of the leaf…” The man chimed sarcastically as he too fell to his death.

“I already explained to ya’ll a thousan times woman! I ain’t yer man an I ain’t ever gonna be. It’s against the laws, an besides, ya’ll are lookin pretty dead soon anyway. Am sorry pard…but ya’ll ain’t gonna last much…hmm…” Tigera paused as the gravely injured woman appearing to be in her late teens rushed toward it, hugging it’s leg and clinching it’s furs in her hands.

“Tigera! Please…understand…there’s…a Sanin…she’s got a godly powerful healing jutsu if we could find her--but…tigera…you’re…my only…..friend…” She sobbed desperately as the large Tiger beast she’d summoned pushed her aside and to the ground.

“I…know…I know how much ya’ll got to liken me over the few years we’ve been together. However, it ain’t rite ya ere, I promise you, when I get mehself a man vessel, I’ll find ya’ll again. Ya’ll’s a fine friend boss…no…Sazumai…” Tigera responded rubbing it’s large nose against he girl before vanishing into a nearby thunderhead.

“Tigeraaaaaa….no…he’s…g-gone…” The woman cried out in hate and fear as she fell to the ground.

“To die among enemy ninja, to lose to such weaklings…no…I swear Tigera…I will make myself worthy again…” She murmured before falling out of consciousness.

We travel now into the future, not too long after the Ninetailed fox had been sealed in it’s most recent vessel. A few mere months after the vile Shiukaku escaped and ravaged the land, with a man named Orochimaru setting the events into play as he pleased. We watch now, a man who lost a great friend in battle and nearly lost his left eye, and as he awaits his newest assignment. He begins to feel his memories of that friend build in slight regret of not her actions, but his. We also find a young boy of the Hyuga clan, who has wandered the lands, alone, desperate for a family of his own. For this boy has lost his birth parents, and most recently went into depression, due to a most shocking factor. His suspicions place much strain on the only true friend he has, his fears put him and those around him in danger. That, my dear friend, is where our story truly begins.
