A slight chilly wind blew as Iris walked through the college campus. The new and unfamiliar landscape around her occupied her ever curious mind as she strolled through the campus. However, the interesting buildings did nothing to calm her stress. She could feel a tight knot in her stomach, a clear sign that perhaps she should not have agreed to this. She went over the conversation with Dahlia in her head once again.
"You will meet him in the cafeteria at 12:30, I arranged for him to meet me, there. Once you are there do not forget that you cannot arouse his suspicion." Dahlia said.
"Yes I know" Replied Iris.
"You need to get the necklace back by any means necessary though." Dahlia continued, her eyes shone a look of seriousness.
"Y-Yes, Dahlia" Iris replied weakly, her voice cracked as she spoke which showed a clear sign of intimidation.
"Alright, now the idiot you are meeting should be easy to spot. He spikes his hair in the back, and he is always wearing a smile. He should stand out like a sour thumb. His name is Phoenix." Dahlia spat, as if simply speaking about the person in question was sickening.
Iris nodded as she committed this information to memory.
Iris cringed as she remembered the conversation. She forced her trembling legs to move. 'This was to save her sister.' she thought 'Just do this one thing, it was simple just retrieve the necklace and Dahlia would be safe. The evidence would be gone, and there would be no reason for her to commit anymore sins to cover her tracks.' Iris gulped, her fear and nervousness was clearly visible. She could feel the eyes of college students upon her. Her face flushed a deep red as she escaped into a nearby building.
When she entered she could smell the scent of food. She looked at a nearby wall and found a sign that read "Cafeteria -". She was almost there. Her lips curved slightly upward a sign of her relief. She could feel her heartbeat rising though. She looked down the empty hall and saw glass doors. Through those doors she could see students lining up at a counter as a lunch lady served them food. Iris walked casually toward her goal.
"Hey cutie." Spoke a voice.
Iris turned around and faced a large student in a sports jersey. He leaned against the wall, his arm supporting himself, as he leered at her. Despite having little contact with the outside world, Iris could tell that this man was trouble.
"Listen here, girly. Let's ditch this place and go somewhere private?" said the student.
"Uh…" Iris stumbled to speak, "n-no thank you…"
The student laughed and looked at Iris with a sick grin on his face "That wasn't a question little missy" and he grabbed Iris' wrist.
Her eyes widened as she struggled to free herself from the man's grasp.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing? Leave her alone!" spoke a voice.
Iris' eyes shot to the side where they found a smaller young man with spiky black hair.
"This ain't none of you're business" said the larger student surprised by the new person. His diverted attention slacked his grip on Iris, which allowed her to free herself from his grip. She quickly turned the corner and into a nearby ladies restroom. She locked the door behind herself as she caught her breath. In the distance she could hear footsteps approaching.
"I said leave her alone!" said the spiky haired student.
"Stay out of this punk." replied the jock. "Or do you want to entertain me instead?"
Iris gasped softly. She couldn't hear the words that followed, but she then heard unmistakable cries of agony and pain in-between the sound of walloping fists. She sat down on the ceramic tiled floor, covering her mouth, tears slightly appearing in her eyes. After a few minutes the cries stopped and she heard footsteps trailing off. She slowly exited only to face a body on the floor, blood running from his nose and his face bruised.
She rushed out to the person. He turned toward her and spoke "Are you okay Dahlia?"
Iris was speechless before remembering that she was Dahlia at the moment. She knelt down and faced him. She replied with a soft "Yes I'm okay. Thank you Phoenix."
