Summary: Nessarose has lived in the jungle of Nool for as long as she can remember, being raised by Horton since her father died. But both their lives are changed when they hear a cry for help coming from a small speck, and soon discover that it holds an entire world known a Whovile.

Disclaimer: I only own Nessarose. The rest belong to 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky studios.

This is my first Horton Hears A Who story, so please go easy on me.

The Arrival Of Nessa

The storm raged around Duncan Parker as he tried to steer his small boat through the pouring rain, desperate to reach land before it was too late. But he feared that it was already too late. In one hand, he held the rudder firmly, pushing it against the raging waves of the sea. In the other arm, he held his week-old baby daughter, who was still crying. She had been crying since the storm started, and it was starting to drive Duncan mad. Not at the noise, but at the fact that his baby daughter was unhappy.

Hope began to rise in him again when he saw land in the distance. A jungle, by the looks of it, but Duncan didn't care. As long as he could get his baby daughter to safety, he didn't care.

He reached the land by morning, when the storm had finally stopped and the sun was beating down on the footprints Duncan had left on the beach. He carried his daughter in one arm, the supplies in the other, as he trudged up the beach towards the jungle. The baby had finally stopped crying, and seemed to be in a happier mood. She suddenly reached out with her little arms towards something, her eyes wide open in curiosity. Duncan looked up, to see a large tree not far off.

Perfect to build a tree-house in.

“That's my girl,” he whispered to his daughter, pride surging through him.

Over the next few weeks, Duncan worked. He worked and he worked, cutting up wood, making rope out of vines, until it was complete. A tree-house. The perfect home for him and his daughter.

But it was not to be. For merely a few days after the house was completed, a leopard attacked Duncan in the house. Duncan fought bravely, but in the end, both died. Man and leopard. Man from a bite to the throat, leopard from a knife stabbed in the belly. The painful yells of both had the baby crying for hours. Long enough to attracted another's attention.

A few hours later, a large elephant entered the tree-house. He had heard the baby's cries, and had come to investigate. He gasped at the dead bodies on the floor, but his attention turned to the moving sheet in the crib. He slowly approached it, and his trunk pulled the sheet back, to reveal a tiny baby. The baby stopped crying immediately, and gazed up at the elephant in confusion.

The elephant fell in love with the child immediately. He smiled down lovingly, before noticing that writing was engraved into the crib. The baby's name.

Nessarose.

Yeah, I know that chapter was a little short and slow, which is why I uploaded two. Please keep reading!
