On the one-year anniversary of the beginning of their dating/sleeping together/screwing like rabbits (phrasing varies in the gossip pool), he hands her a little box over dinner.

Opening the box, she smiles, her face flushed with pleasure. “You remembered,” she said jokingly.

And then, she’s shocked when she opens the box and sees a sparkling diamond necklace.

“Jack…” She looks at him in shock. “This is…”

“For you,” he finishes, grinning. “Happy anniversary.”

Her face goes even redder, and the whole night, she can’t stop smiling.
