Training

"Piccolo, Piccolo!"

The Namekian didn't need sensitive ears to hear the boy coming. He opened his eyes to the sight of the waterfall, and even around the thundering roar, Gohan's voice echoed through the canyon before he was even near enough to see. Piccolo wondered what had drawn Gohan out so late in the evening as he took a moment to look around.

He'd noticed it grow darker, and cooler, but had not realized that the sun had set.

Piccolo looked up at the small rustling from the ledge above and asked, "What are you doing?" when Gohan appeared, black hair just as wild as it had been the week before. It wasn't until Piccolo drew level with the ledge, and Gohan, that he noticed to boy holding something. Gohan sat down on the edge of the cliff beside the waterfall, the foil-wrapped package in his lap.

"Nothing," he said, smiling, "I just came to see ya. Mom made sweet bread and I thought you'd want some."

He held out the package and, unable to refuse, Piccolo took it.

"Thank you, Gohan," he said.

Piccolo ate his bread silently, watching Gohan as he laid back in the grass to watch the steadily brightening stars, seeming content where he was and not needing to say anything. After a while Piccolo closed his eyes and continued to mediate, enjoying the kid's presence, but wondering why he was so quite. It was completely dark before the half-Saiyan sat up again, abruptly.

He looked a little disappointed, now.

"I should probably get home, Piccolo," Gohan said, then smiled sheepishly, "I sort of snuck out after I did my homework and Mom's probably worried."

Piccolo opened his eyes to glance at the boy, when he appeared to want to say something else and didn't. Gohan sat there for a moment longer, then stood up, patting the stray grass off of his pants. When he had, he looked up at Piccolo again.

"I don't have any homework tomorrow," he finally said, inclining his head, "Will you train with me, Piccolo?"

Piccolo almost smiled.

"Sure."

Gohan's face lit up.

"Thank you, Piccolo!" he said, full of his usual energy again. Gathering his ki, he turned to go, smiling broadly. "See you tomorrow!"

He disappeared into the night with a streak of yellow, leaving an amused Namek in his wake.

There was just something about that boy that kept Piccolo wondering about the next random visit. Not all of them were as awful as the one time Gohan had whistled for him.

(A/n) In all honesty, I think I have the most fun specifying when these little happenings all take place. These are for KouTai, due to my embarassing inability to draw Namekians (I will someday, KouTai, I swear!! xD). Please review! There will be more. I'm throwing up a lot of DBZ lately, aren't I?
