Numerous people would call him a hero. A savior, throughtout the realms. Others who fought against him considered him to be the biggest threat to their plans and goals. But to himself, Liu Kang was nothing more than a man fighting for what he believed in and loved. He would not allow his home to be torn apart by invaders who had right trying to conquer it in the first place.

Born in the Shaolin temples of the White Lotus society, Kang was a student of master Bo Rai Cho, who considered Kang his greatest pupil. Master Bo, along with the god of thunder Raiden, prepared Kang for the fight of his life, the ultimate test of skill and power: Mortal Kombat. Proving his mettle to all, Kang would defeat the Outworld champion Goro and then sorcerer Shang Tsung in the final battle.

He had become the immortal champion of Mortal Kombat. The greatest warrior the Earth had ever known. When fate brought him to Outworld, seeking vengeance against those who laid waste to his home, Liu would participate in the tournament held by the ruthless Shao Kahn, emperor of Outworld. Once again beating the odds, Kang defeated Shao Kahn himself in the final match up, but he would soon learn the entire tournament was a ruse. A trap.

Surprisingly, it would be Shao Kahn's apparent daughter and assassin Kitana that informed Kang of the tournament's true purpose. who he began to fall in love with. Heading back to Earth, Kang prepared for what, deep down, he believed to be his last battle. Shao Kahn would invade, taking the soul of virtually every human being on the planet. But luckily Kang and his friends were protected from the absorbtion. Protected by Raiden.

Ultimately, after a pitched and difficult battle, Kang unleashed all his might and greatly weakened Shao Kahn, even making the evil emperor flee back to Outworld. Kang had once again emerged victorious.

However, his time to relax from battle was cut short. He would soon learn from Kitana that bizzare things had been happening. He then noticed even many of his fellow White Lotus had been literally disappearing. With the Black Dragon crime organization, and the deadly Chinese assassin clan, the Lin Kuei as his primary suspects, Kang tracked down the only Lin Kuei warrior he knew: Sub-Zero.

After a quick battle with Sub-Zero, Kang was convinced that the Lin Kuei were not responsible for the strange dissaperances of his allies. Liu would even have to face the wrathful ninja specter Scorpion.

After defeating Scorpion, Kang is stunned to see the specter vanish. Even more odd, a man clad in red tights appeared in Scorpion's place. Believing this to truly be Shang Tsung, Kang attacked and defeated the man, but soon discovered this was a toatally different warrior altogether when he defeated the real Shang Tsung himself back in China.

Along with all of his remaining allies, Kang would began to fall under the effects of what was known simply as the Rage. After trying to atune to the red clad man's chi, Kang was transported to an entirely different world. The world his was apparently merging with. There, he would encouter a cowl and cape clad vigilante apparently called the Batman.

The Rage however had practically consumed Kang at the time, and he attacked Batman. When he later awoke from being knocked unconcious, he was at Raiden's temple. According to the thunder god, he was being held captive aboard a space staion, and he believed these invaders to be allies of the late Shao Kahn.

In time however, the main threat is idenitfied in the form of a creature called Dark Kahn. Raiden would assemble warriors, heroes and villains alike to help defeat the threat. But Dark Kahn would force the Rage upon them, causing a brutal battle between them and the apparent otherwordly invaders.

In blind fury, Raiden lashes out at both Kang and Shang Tsung attacking and defeating them both. However, in the end, it would be the thunder god that would vanquish Dark Kahn, and save Earthrealm.

Wanting to create the ultimate defender of Earth, Raiden would grant Kang his own powers, Fujin's, Argus', and several others. In order to become a force to be reckoned with, he need only shout "Mortal Kombat!"

Whu Shi Academy, China. 1:10 pm.

The temple was in ruin. Flames burned and cracked throughout the buildings and sectors. Lifeless, mutilated bodies of monks laid practically everywhere. Two of the bodies even happened to be a mangled Raiden and Kung Lao. Carelessly stepping on any dead carcass in his way, a blood thristy Shao Kahn gripped his War Hammer tightly. "I have returned hero!" He shouted out. "And this time, I'll see to it that you suffer til' your last dying breath!"

His patience swiftly evaporating, Shao Kahn scanned the area for a moment when he heard, "Kahn!!" He spun around to lay eyes on Liu Kang, sporting the most outraged expression. "How dare you do this!!" He shouted angirly.

"Simple." Kahn said with a snicker. "Alll who oppose me are guaranteed a most--unpleasant death, monk."

Kang shook his head in digust. "May the Elder Gods damn you to an enternity in the Netherrealm, Kahm." He said grimly.

Kahn laughed. "Do not expect the same kind of battle as last time, monk. I am more powerful then ever. I will easily crush the life you."

"No mercy this time, Kahn." Kang sneered. "Only one of us will walk away from this battle alive."

"Then so be it." Kahn uttered with a chuckle. Just as he was about to charge, he stopped when noticed something.

The monk's eyes were glowing. Glowing a bright white. Raw, primal energy surged and danced off and around his body. "MORTAL KOMBAT!!!"

Shao Kahn's life would come to a gruesome conclusion that day. Kang had saved the Earth from another potenital invasion, but at the cost of the god of thunder and his best friend. Weeks later, the fallen Elder God Shinnok would emerge from the depths of hell and take Edenia, only to be swiftly pulverized by Kang. Enjoying peace for many years, Kang would marry Kitana.

However, Liu was later ambushed by both Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, claiming to have formed a 'Deadly Alliance'. Both sorcerers would meet death at Liu's hands. The legendary Dragon King later resurfaced, only to be immidiately vaporized by Kang. Constanly surging with power, danger to his loved ones soon presented itself when Kang began to lose something important: his very own sanity.

Nearly insane with power, Liu Kang would lash out and enslave the people of Edenia, including his own wife and unborn child. Going from loved hero to hated conquerer almost overnight, Kang would ravage both Earthrealm and Outworld in his conquest, weeding out any who opposed him. Nearly insane with grief and unable to bear watching her husband slowly become a heartless monster, princess Kitana would commit suicide, also killing the child inside her.

It would be a months later the Elder Gods themselves would strip Kang of his power, and his immortality along with it. With everyone he loved dead thanks to his own selfish actions, Liu Kang had learned what some much power could do to you the hard way...
