Chapter 4
Lilly and Ashley woke up near to 8:30 the next morning. Maryanne had checked on Jayden and she was still sleeping. “Has she moved?” Lilly asks.
“When I checked on her, she has moved to sleep on her right side.” Maryanne replied.
Both Lilly and Ashley sighed in relief. “Thank you Maryanne.”
“You’re welcome dears. Now, we must discus about your clothes.” Maryanne says.
“What about our clothes?” Ashley asks, looking down at her dirty clothes.
“We will have to get rid of your old ones and get you both some dresses.”
Ashley paled. “I just remembered. Jayden absolutely HATES dresses.”
“We’ll worry about clothes for Jayden when she recovers. For now, let’s worry about you two. Now, take lift up your shirts so I can measure you.”
Ashley and Lilly exchanged looks and lifted their shirts a little so that Maryanne could measure them.
About 17 minutes and 6 seconds later, Maryanne was finished. “Okay, both of you are the same size as me, so you both can borrow a dresses from me until we go shopping.”
Both girls nodded.
……………………….
A blood-curdling scream echoed throughout the entire house, which vibrated outside. “That was Jayden!” Lilly and Ashley ran to Jayden’s room and kicked the door open to find Jayden kicked and thrashing.
Both of them went over. Lilly held Jayden as she trashed and kicked. “Jayden, it’s just a dream! Calm down!”
Jayden gave out a strangled cough and vomited blood on Lilly shirt and pants. Lilly gave a disgusted look, but held the shaking girl otherwise. Lilly rubbed Jayden’s back, talking in her ear. “It’s okay Jayden. It was just a dream.”
Jayden opened her mouth and tried to say something, but all that came out was a cough. “What are you trying to say Jayden?” Ashley asks.
“T…….” Jayden began. “Tra…….v……Traving…….”
Both girls looked confused. “Traving?” Ashley asks.
“Ton……..” Jayden finished.
“Traving-ton?” Lilly muttered. She then realized. “Tavington!”
“What?” Ashley asks.
“I think she was trying to say Tavington.” Lilly replied as Jayden’s shaking began to calm down.
“Why?”
Lilly shook her head. “I don’t know Ash.”
“Is everything alright?”
Both girls looked to see Maryanne, Cornwallis and Tavington standing in the doorway. Lilly narrowed her eyes at the Colonel and sighed. “Yeah, except she vomited blood again.”
“Oh dear.” Maryanne said and walked in. “You go take a bath and we’ll clean Jayden up.”
Lilly nodded and walked out of the room. “Um, Maryanne?” Ashley whispers.
“Yes Ashley?” Maryanne asks as she cleaned up the blood on Jayden’s face.
“After Jayden vomited blood, she called for someone.”
“Who?”
Ashley quickly looked at Tavington and then back to Maryanne and whispered. “Tavington.”
Maryanne was taken back. “Why would she call for him?”
“We don’t know. But when she got sick, she would also have nightmares about different people. One time she had a nightmare about her grandma and called out for her, but she had already died 5 years ago.” Ashley replied.
“So, maybe she had a nightmare about the Colonel?”
“It’s possible. But she hates him.”
“That is very strange. Maybe we should ask her when she wakes up.” Maryanne says.
“Can’t. Jayden forgets about the nightmares everytime.” Ashley said.
Maryanne sighed. “Alright, father, would you go get me a towel and clean clothes?”
Cornwallis nodded and left the room.
“What seems to be the problem ma’am?” Tavington asks.
“Nothing. Jayden just had a bad dream. Go away.” Ashley says.
“But I-.”
“Lilly!!!”
“What?!!” Lilly shouted back from somewhere in the house.
“Tavington won’t leave the room!” Ashley replied.
“You want me to kick his ass?!”
“Fine! I’m leaving.” The Colonel muttered and stalked out of the room.
Ashley smiled. “Thanks Lilly!!”
“No problem!!”
Maryanne blinked. “Well, that was very unexpected.” She said as her father came back with clean clothes and a towel.
………………….
Later on during the day, Lilly was watching over Jayden when she began whimpering. Lilly pulled the younger girl into a hug. “Shhh, its okay Jayden.”
“Ma…….gh……” Jayden said.
Lilly sighed. Poor girl……why does this have to happen to her?
“…..Ton…….Tav……ing…..” she muttered. “Bat….tle…..bl…..ood…..”
No use asking her when she recovers. She forgets everytime. Lilly thought.
