Burberry Avenue

Claire leaned over and gripped the handle bars of Kyler’s bike as they speed peddled down Burberry Avenue.

She couldn’t feel anything. Her eyes were covered with her grown out blonde bangs, her stomach was still trying to catch up to the speeding bike, and her head felt like it was floating right off her shoulders.

Cam never went this fast on his bike… But that was the past times.

Claire gripped her gold locket to give her strength and try nawt to think about Cam, but his one blue eye and his one green eye was glued in her head.

She could just see him when she told him by accident what had happened.

The IM pops up on Cam’s computer. He gasped, his eyes turn the same red color. But then they fill with tears. He grabs his leather jacket and cries into it, trying not to let his parents hear his whining and wrenching.

He wipes his eyes and stared at the picture of them sharing a gummy worm like Lady and the Tramp. He throws it in the trash and flopped down into his bed. “Why?! Why does she always do this to me?!” He cries.

Tears stung in the back of Claire’s eyes. She rubbed her eyes on the back of Kyler’s gray polo shirt.

Kyler shook her off with a shrug of his shoulders.

“Here we are.” Kyler announced.

He locked his bike on the bike rack in front of Candyoppolis.

They stepped inside, instead of the smell of warm cinnamon rolls that always made a small tickle form in the back of Claire’s belly button, the only smell she got was stale chocolate and grabbed a fist full of gummies and sours.

He stuffed them in a plastic bag.

Claire was about to grab one herself and try to smother herself, but fought the urge. Once Kyler paid for it, they stepped out side. Claire waited for Kyler to open the door for her.

He opened the door half way, squeezed out, and slammed the door in Claire’s face.

Claire shrugged it off. No guy could be as perfect as Cam…

She got back on his bike and he speed peddled again into the city’s main park.

They soon got to a forest green plastic bench.

Kyler smiled and handed Claire a blue and green gummy.

She bit off it’s head-butt slowly chewing.

Kyler shrugged and stuffed the rest in his mouth, swallowing them after one little chew.

Claire rolled her eyes. “Leave it alone Claire. She picked him over Cam. You ruined your relationship with Cam for just one little peck on the lips, so that has to mean something.” She told herself.

“Oh, sorry. Did you want another one?” Kyler asked, ready to regurgitate them back into his fist for Claire to have one.

Claire crinkled her nose and shook her head.

“No. I’m fine.” She turned her head away. A crisp breeze blew her head to the left side of her face.

He climbed back on his bike. “So you ready to go?” He asked.

“But we just got here.” Claire said, a little bit of whine in her voice.

“I don’t like the park.” Kyler shuddered.

“Why?” Claire squinted in confusion.

“Well, let’s just say something bad has happened here…” His voice trailed off. Claire reluctantly climbed back on the seat. He peddled so fast that the whole scene of the beautiful park blurred and melted like a water color painting.

She closed her eyes, trying not to puke.

When she opened them again, they were at her house.

She climbed off.

He puckered his lips, obviously wanting a kiss goodbye. He leaned in. Claire stopped him with her hand.

“Wellbye!” Claire said quickly.

“What?” Kyler asked, disappointed.

“I thought maybe you wanted a kiss goodbye.”

Claire wanted to roll her eyes.

“Sorry. Parents.” Claire wagged her thumb behind her to her empty guest house.

“Doesn’t look like anybody’s in there to me.” Kyler leaned in again.

Claire stepped back every time he got closer.

He lost his balance and fell on to the grass with a muted thud.

Claire ran off as he brushed his knees off.

“You were sooo into it when you were dating Cam!” He yelled angrily.

Claire kept her back turned, trying nawt to show him her tears that were pouring down her cheeks.

Why would he do that? He was her boyfriend. Or for now he was.

That was a sensitive subject! As a boyfriend he should of known that.

But, he wasn’t any Cam.

Saturday, November 8th,

11:11 AM

Massie stared at her computer and smile bit her lip softly.

Landon: Hey Mass. I need to talk to you. Meet me at the mall later today? Say about, 12?

Massie: Sure thing Landon ;)

Massie wheeled in her computer chair until she got to dizzy to stand up straight. She had exactly… 51 minutes to get ready! She set the timer on her phone and started to get ready. She walked into her walk in closet and tapped her chin. She had so many outfits to choose from!

Casual would probably be the best, since it was the mall, but maybe casual dressy because she didn’t want him to think that she dressed like a casual person every day.

“Aha!” She hollered to her self.

She grabbed her mint green off the shoulder sweater, her large black headband, and ultra skinny jeans. She grabbed her high heel boots and a skinny gold belt that would hang off her hips. Perfect!

She threw it on her massiekin. It was even more pretty than she thought!

She threw it on and looked her self in the mirror.

There was a knock at the door.

“Come in if you must!” Massie sighed, still admiring herself in the mirror.

Claire walked in, wearing a blue tank top, white skirt, and white leather boots. It was better than her itchy turtle neck sweater and keds.

“Ooo. Fancy fancy! Where you going?” Claire leaned on Massie’s bed.

“To the mall. With Landon!” Massie couldn’t contain her excitement.

Claire smiled contentedly. “At least one of us is happy.” Claire said softly.

Massie sighed and sat next to Claire.

“Why are you so down Kuh-laire. You may not be dating Cam….” Massie coughed, knowing how much saying that name made Claire even sadder.

“But your still dating at least a boy who rates a 9.5”

“But I settled. Cam, on the scale of one to 10 was a 12.” Claire sighed.

“Be happy.” Massie squeezed Claire’s shoulders.

Her alarm went off.

“Oops! Got to go! Bye!” Massie left Claire in her room alone.

Westchester Mall

12:05 PM

Massie entered from the automatic sliding doors, searching the part of the mall she could see for Landon.

Her stomach did a back flip.

Landon was sipping some sort of blue slush in a huge clear cup, his other hand stuffed in his brown leather jacket. He smile waved to her.

Massie walked coolly until she got to him. “You want some?” He handed her the blue concoction.

Massie tried not to barf on the mystery blue carbs.

“No thanks.” She smiled gracefully.

He sipped the rest and slipped the empty cup in the trash.

“So what do you want to talk about?” Massie asked sweetly.

Landon grabbed her hand and sat her down at the bench next to them.

“Mass… I don’t know how to say this.”

Massie’s stomach dropped. Was he going to dump her before they started.

“That dinner at your house…” He said.

“Look, I know my parents are kinda dorky, but you said you were okay with it.” Massie sighed.

“ And I am! But when you tried to kiss me..” Landon tried to say more but it looked like he couldn’t.

“Was I moving too fast?”

“I thought you just wanted to be friends.” Landon finally answered.

Massie slowly let go of his hands slowly and stuck them to her sides. “What?” She softly giggled, praying this was a joke.

“Well… See, I thought you just wanted to be friends. And I wasn’t ready for that.” Landon looked at his foot and dragged it across the tile.

Massie slowly stood up. “Oh.” She said softly. Her amber eyes

were filled with tears.

“Mass, look, I’m sorry.” Landon said.

“No. Don’t be.” Massie said flatly.

“Massie, let me finish!” Landon pleaded.

Massie started to run in her high heels.

“Isaac, pull up front.” She hiccupped.

“Massie!” Landon called from the bench.

Massie ran out and jumped into the car. She landed on the buttery soft leather cushions and silently cried on the seats as they left.

How could she be so stupid?!
