Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, in any way. Rumiko Takashi does.

Whenever the seasons changed, children would run out playing in the fields. They would pick up balls of white flakes and toss them to each other or even at them. At dusk, their mothers would call them away, saying it was far too cold to play in the snow so late.

They would mutter and shuffle themselves into the warmth of the fire their fathers built for their home.

And then...

She would step out, eyes glancing every which way, being certain that no one walked about.

Her sister slept peacefully by a dim fire as she threw a small blanket about her shoulders and took off into the night.

Feet crunching in cold white frost, her lips parted in a wide smile. Puffs of breath filtered in front of her like a small fog as she made it all the way up to the fields where the children play. This was no her time. She dropped the blanket from her shoulders and picked up a good sized ball of snow before tossing it up into the air. It floated like feathers, swiftly tangling in her hair and clothes while she went for another ball.

The cold touch of each drop exhilarated her. She envisioned each one to be small drops of heaven as her feet kicked out of her wooden sandals.

Cheeks flushed and eyes glossed with glee, she did a somersault and landed on her back.

She laughed out loud; only the animals able to hear if they listen.

The starry sky danced about, imitating her earlier movements as she let out a sigh of relief. It felt as if she were floating on clouds. Bits of snow melted into her kimono, causing a numbness to settle throughout her body. But she didn’t notice it or show any feeling that she had as she began swinging her arms and legs about, shifting the white flakes into a shape.

This was her moment, this was her time.

When the world stopped looking at her and silently went to sleep, this was when she shined the brightest. Where she truly felt pure, within the white fields of purity. A goddess of the snow. A creature of pureness.

Raven hair soaked, she finally stood up, brushing off whatever lingered on her clothing and began heading back to her home just as twilight set in. Though she wished to stay out here longer, she knew eventually someone would awaken in her sleep and search for her in the cold night. Blanket now wrapped about her shoulders once more, she stepped into the slumbering village that she called home.

Careful to not stir any of the villagers awake by the crunching snow beneath her feet, she kept her sandals securely in her hand and stepped inside her small hut. Sister still quietly asleep along the floor with her face tucked inside her blanket, Kikyou smiled at the irony.

Just a short while ago, she became the pure innocence that now slept away the night.

The night when priestess became a creature of the night, in the white fields of purity.
