Eh, I might edit this again later.

Ludwig couldn’t sleep.
Even with his eyes closed, his mind was still awake. He was thinking about certain things: the wars, the time he spent with Feliciano, the time he had spent in Italy and Feliciano himself. Feliciano was always so lively and cheerful, as though he was living each day of his life as his last.
For a long time, Ludwig thought he could figure out why Feliciano was always like this, but the answer never came to him. He was forced to using one last method that he knew wouldn’t always work: he had to ask Feliciano himself that very same question.
So he turned to his side and opened his eyes. As always, there was Feliciano. As always, Feliciano was naked and asleep. Ludwig sighed deeply. Sometimes he truly envied him. If only he knew how to let go of his own control like Feliciano. If only he knew how.
“How do you do it?” he wondered. How could Feliciano look so peaceful right now? He knew Feliciano couldn’t really hear him. The brunet could sleep through nearly anything, which was another thing Ludwig envied about him.
Despite his words falling to deaf ears, he kept talking, “How can you live the way you do?”
Feliciano said nothing. He only moved closer to Ludwig, with a small dreamy smile on his serene face. Ludwig should have gotten used to Feliciano cuddling with him like this, but he was not, because he didn’t know if it was supposed to feel this good, to have somebody be with him like this.
Ludwig sighed again. He knew it wouldn‘t work, he just knew it! But to his surprise, Feliciano opened his eyes slowly, gazing at Ludwig in wonder. “Why aren’t you sleeping?”
“You actually heard me?” Ludwig asked with a raised brow.
Feliciano yawned at him. “Only in my dreams.”
Ludwig blinked at him. He had no idea what Feliciano meant by that. His friend was simply too strange. Feliciano only further confirmed this as he moved again, settling right on top of Ludwig, much to Ludwig’s conflicted feelings about it.
“I was dreaming of fun things,” Feliciano said to him, resting his head on Ludwig’s chest. “You and I-- we were walking in a field of flowers. The weather was perfect too, with the sun out and a breeze here and there.”
“So?” Ludwig asked in a rather indignant voice. What did that have to do with his questions? It was hard to focus on Feliciano now, with his naked body pressed against Ludwig like this. He could feel his own heart, beating so loudly against his chest. Only a thin layer of his own clothing separated their flesh.
“Life can be wonderful,” Feliciano said softly. He turned up, gazing at Ludwig and smiling at him. “Am I right?”
Ludwig stared at him for a while. Did Feliciano even know what he was saying or doing to him?
“I guess so,” Ludwig said to him. Life could be wonderful. Well, he knew that. He didn’t need Feliciano to tell him that, or did he?
Feliciano closed his eyes and allowed his head to rest upon Ludwig’s chest again. Ludwig hated to admit this, even to himself, but he rather liked this. It made life a little more bearable.
Feliciano, he realized, made his life worth living.
He was so shocked by his own revelation that he actually laughed. It made sense, so much sense, and yet it didn’t. That was okay. They had eternity to figure out the mysteries of life.
The souls of the nations lived on forever.
Fin.
